I just found one of these brake lathes and I am the second person to message the guy about it. Evidently if the other guy does not take it I believe that the owner may just give the device to me. I do restorations of old Porsches and I believe it will be an essential addition to my garage. I was not excited but now I am getting more and more Psyched!!

There's something about working with a lathe & make things smooth again. Haven't used one in over 15 years. =(

Excellent Video...!!!! I just got my ammco 4000 brake lathe... I was wondering if there's any possibility that you can make a video about replacing the shear gear plastic that you show as parts replacement... I can't find any video about it on KZbin...!!!! Tanks in advance..!!!👍👍👍

There probably is a video on replacing the sheer gear. Our lathe broke shortly after this video and I'll probably make a repair video but our sheer gear doesn't need replaced so I wont be making that video any time soon.

I remember getting a good scare! I dont remember why. Light bulb flex light? Thanks for watching my video!

Can you turn a dual-mass flywheel like that?

no

You need a 4050 grinder for flywheels. That bit wont work on hardened hot spots

What tool bit holder did you use in that boring bar? The stock holder for drum cutting is facing wrong direction.

What tool was that you made the measurement with. I saw the word "END" on it. That was for depth?

I'll be glad to answer but its been like a year, and I cant afford the time to watch the whole video. Can you give me a minute/second reference like this 2:03
@CoolAirVw5 ай бұрын
that was a tool called a "H guage". Its for measuring depth. Its useful for bunches of stuff.

@@CoolAirVw thanks for the reply. I was using a dial indicator mounted on top by the slide bar to record my face cut disance then use that reading to cut the steps..

After you cut the flywheel, do you need to check for balance???

Great video! Thanks for the tip about not turning the tooling when doing a scratch test. Any chance you've done this on an aircooled VW flywheel? I have one of these machines and would love any tips on the process using the 11/16" arbor. Subbed!
@CoolAirVw3 жыл бұрын
I haven't done this on a air cooled. Why do you have so much stuff? Seems like your a DIYer with mill, lathe, tire machine, brake lathe ect? Very advanced obviously. I thought you said in one of your videos you do software or computers or something?
@HapticGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@CoolAirVw Please share if you ever attempt an aircooled VW flywheel. I haven't figured out a way to securely mount it on the arbor yet. I've been fortunate to find some stuff within my modest means that businesses no longer wanted.

Ohhh the largest problem I’ve had with our friendly neighborhood auto parts stores is those pimple faced kids don’t know how to measure/allowable cut on the rotor…oh we cant turn it to worn…let me get you price on some new ones….i asked the kid show me with your Micrometer and lets do some math….uhhh ok (not a clue), that’s awesome drop 5 or 600 and some time into it and you’ll get another 30 years out of it!
