I dont care if your videos are four million decades long or not. You know so much about all of this electronics wizardry and i am amazed by every single video you put out. Thank you very much!

Brilliant video, Clem, you explain it so well, lots of good info! This kind of stuff is right up my street! I think I need to get myself a decent oscilloscope and an LCR meter if I want to seriously get into this kind of stuff!

BTW, I have made Slayer Exciters and a Schmitt trigger oscillator-controlled coil, but not worked with GDTs, so this vid was very interesting! 👍

It would be a good investment. Some electronics just can't be done without a scope.

@@CoolDudeClem You can use transistor push-pull to drive GDT. There are many spikes on the oscilloscope waveform. How to solve it?

Heey this is such an usefull video. This is full of really usefull insights and your knowledge and experience. I am glad i stayed subscribed to your channel because it is getting even above that great level of the older of your video's! It is totally interesting again ,and you show the usefull insights with clever explaining. Only you should have measured with some capacitive load on the trafos approximately simular to a fets gate 4nF or so. That way you see much more difference between the cores because without any load most trafos can look good enough.

Basically when I tested with the mosfets, that's given me some idea of what I'll have to work with.

@@CoolDudeClem The push-pull output waveform is very square, and the transformer output has spikes

Looks like you really know your stuff...Good to see you doing more with tesla coils. I wonder how far you could get one to trasmit and what factors are involved in the distence in terms of the voltage and frequency used.

What's the schematic on the wall with the 16 pin IC and the BC557? It looks interesting.

It's a oscillator using the CD4046 with a BC547 and 557 to buffer it's output, pretty much the exact same circuit I'm using in this video, except I'm using a gate driver chip instead of a couple of transistors.

a great source of ferrite cores (general purpose atleast) are both SMPS' (albeit thats not guaranteed to have a toroidal core) and (broken perhaps) car amplifiers i also got a bunch out of other random stuff and mainly older computer cables those oldschool VGA cables with a separate plastic thingy near the connectors always contain one for example, older usbs often also have them and whatnot for gate driving with BJT's i always use a double push-pull/voltage follower setup (push-pull driving another push-pull, for current gain)
@CoolDudeClem
@CoolDudeClem 10 ай бұрын
I never thought of using the double push pull setup, but I think I'll stick with using the gate driver ICs.

@@townjava6845 could be ringing, if you switch current on and off fast you usually get a peak, that is also how some flyback circuits get a far higher voltage gain than some others even if they're switched at the same voltage, you may need to add a snubber like circuit or atleast a zener diode, high enough voltage wise to not continuously clamp the GDT output, but low enough to not exceed 20V on the gate, on the input of the gate to get rid of those to protect your fets
