Cooling Dolby Atmos Home Theatre

We just bought a new entertainment unit, and my wife isn't too keen on keeping the AV Reciever on top. Not only will it look tidy having the Dolby Atmos receiver tucked away in a slot, but the display screen not being front a centre will also minimise distractions during movies.
One major problem, AV Receivers do not have cooling for tight spaces, they need headroom to vent and in the slot, it only has 10mm of space above. So we're going to make a custom cooling solution.
PARTS USED:
Temperature Controller - geni.us/tempco...
80mm PC Fans - geni.us/80mmPCfan
12v Power Supply - geni.us/12vPSU
DC plugs - geni.us/DCplugs

Great little project. I liked the shiny Cam Shand effect for about 0.1 seconds. You went way too heavy with it, and also with the video distortion you used later on. It's good to see you experimenting, but if you're going to keep the Shiny Cam Shand title effects, then could you please dial it down from epileptic eye ball searing? Making the effect (especially the white flashes) more transparent would reduce the intensity. Air movement through convection is a very weak force. One fan by itself would be more than enough to outperform the normal ambient cooling and allow you to tuck it away in the entertainment unit. I loved your overkill solution and your attention to detail and finishing. You could have had a rough solution with less effort, but I enjoy seeing your process and end result. Keep up the good work!

Hey Yak, yeah trying something new, I've just switched Editor from Adobe suite to DaVinci resolve so learning where all the basics are. I appreciate the feedback though, I'll be tweaking the intro again for the next vid. and this was by no means a text book approach, we simply bought a new TV unit and I ordered a handfull of fans and a temp controller. I was going to program it on an Arduino board but rathered make this a quick weekend project over the Christmas break. Also $25 in parts is nothing compared to replacing or repairs if it did overheat so I was happy to have more fans than necessary haha Thanks for your feedback, appreciate it :)

Hi Cam, great video! I really like your channel. Could you point me to some details about the wiring?

Hi Marco, sure thing, I was trying to make a schematic of the wiring but since the temp controller was off the shelf I was struggling to piece it together. Here's the eBay listing I bought through which has some great images showing different load methods: www.ebay.com.au/itm/W1209-Digital-Thermostat-Temperature-Control-Switch-sensor-Module-12V-50-110-C/324141121290 I used the 12v method where it jumps the positive power from the 12v input into the relay side. Pretty much anything that's on the load side whether in series or parallel is fed by the K0 terminal, that way it only gets power when the relay is activated by the inputted temperature ranges. (shown here: i.ebayimg.com/images/g/JM4AAOSwjVReeYKf/s-l1600.jpg) also found a document online about it that has useful information on programming a HIGH LOW level: www.kelco.rs/katalog/images/17670.pdf I was going to build one myself with a spare Arduino, but this little temp board is all over the internet and quite cheap for the simplicity it brings with changing temperatures :) Thanks for watching and hopefully you get a better visual from those images

Thanks so much for the answer! Your dedication is amazing. I looked at the pictures and the wiring is clear now

Hey Cam, will it accumulate dust inside the system?
@camshand
@camshand 2 жыл бұрын
Great thought, I haven't checked on it yet for dust, but adding active cooling would most likely increase the chances! I might look at adding some dust filters to what is now the intake vents, that's for pointing that out 👍

On my main computer? I just uploaded a studio tour breakdown, I cover all the desk gear mid way through kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ_HiKuVm5t5fZY As for the cinema room, I list the reciever and speaker pack in the description of this vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpKlgH1_arRknsk Which is "This is fed into my Yamaha RX-V581 Dolby Atmos and DTS-X enabled receiver, that drives the Yamaha YHT-8930AXB Dolby Atmos Home Theatre speaker package."

Hahaha yeah I managed to find a nice little spot for fans and controller. Could always mount fans external and controller loose but it'd look a bit Frankenstein like haha

@@camshand Inside is also cramped. A laptop cooler seems like a great solution and it's reversible.
