LYRICS: We’ve got like 3 minutes to deadline If you wanna make the six o’clock news It’s now or never Do you think the cops have too much power Do you think they used excessive force Tell us was your life in danger Tell us did you feel any remorse Are you part of an organized outcry Are you acting on your own Would you agree this case has Racial overtones The cameras are rolling so bare your soul For the record I’m on a tight deadline say what’s on your mind For the record Roll tape zoom in tight Give me one good soundbite For the record How did it feel when you pulled the trigger Tell us what went through your mind Can justice really be served here Will the punishment fit the crime Do you see a political future Do you think the judge will let you off The public wants some answers Here’s your chance to talk Black people will no longer Be silenced or submissive Just like we will rise up in Soweto (Inaudible) or Bophuthatswana So will we rise up in South Central Los Angeles This man thinks that Los Angeles is a racist city Maybe it is maybe it isn’t But I’m not a racist I’m not an assassin I’m just a cop The cameras are rolling so bare your soul For the record I’m on a tight deadline say what’s on your mind For the record We’re wired for sound and we’re writing it down For the record This is crack reporting tell your story For the record Make sure that it’s sensational Highly confrontational For the record

Nice work! But I think that "Are you acting on your own" is actually "Are you acting alone?", "Don't take too much time" is actually "Roll tape, zoom in tight", and the last location that he mentioned is Bophuthatswana (A state that went "independent" in 1977 and reintegrated into South Africa in 1994), not sure about the one in the middle. Independent in quotes because almost no one recognised it as a country. The last inaudible section I think is "We're wired for sound and we're writing it down".

@Wattywatasaurus3 жыл бұрын
@@Worldwideweb1994 the line was was “just like we will rise up in Soweto, and Transkei, and Bophuthatswana…” Soweto is a township in Johannesburg, where they had the Soweto Uprising in the 70s. Transkei and Bophuthatswana were two of the “Bantustans” that black South Africans were forced to live in by the Apartheid government, and nominally made "independent” (which basically meant “we’re not responsible for those areas or their management, because they’re independent nations”).

God, I'm old. I remember this show. I love my adult life and everything, but sometimes I really miss the mid to late '80's and early '90's. Things were just...different. There was an innocence that just isn't there anymore, and everything from movies to fashion to music was just more fun. I don't miss the racism, sexism, classism, etc , but I do miss the music. We'll never see another era like that when it comes to music.

Two standby plots for Cop Rock: 1. The SWAT team is called out on a singing man-eating plant trying to take over the city. 2. A bisexual, transvestite mad scientist tries to make a muscle man in his castle but a young engaged couple show up and get in the way. It may have clues as to a missing person named “Eddie.”

I'm not much for U.S. television--I prefer British television, better character development--but it's a shame that this show didn't last longer. True that it applied a musical spin on crime drama, but the musical excerpts conveyed some important (and at the time **very** prescient) messaging about the direction in which our courts and police departments were heading..
