It is if you're going to keep it. To flip though that's 29k+ fees. Then if you don't know how to properly replace the door/panel you're looking at another 3-7K depending on who you know. Then it's a rebuilt title so that's minus 30%of total value roughly "general rule of thumb anyways". 47K minus 30% is 32,900$ resale. Hardly anyone buys at full price especially that much cash so you're looking at 31k sale price realistically.

The more expensive a car is to fix and maintain, the less amount of actual damage is required to total it out. For example any year Maserati can be totaled out simply by backing into a light pole at 3mph without the airbags even going off. In 2014 my boss totaled his Maserati as he was backing it out of a storage unit . He backed into a post and cracked the rear fender in half. None of the tail lights or rear end sensors were damaged, however his insurance wrote it off as a total loss when the repair estimate came out to over $10k. My Boss collected his Insurance payout and was able to locate the salvage auction it would be sold at. He was able to purchase the car back for $18k. He replaced the rear fender himself and had it painted to match. He gave it to his wife to drive and took the remainder of the insurance money and placed it as a down payment on Newer model !! Lol Lucky bastard!

Hi john.. I work in India as procurement eng...my role is to bid on these salvage cars present in copart auction... As per my experience.. Go for the cars with run and drive conditions.. And with insured cars to be on safer side.. You might feel its a small damage for some cars but these are super cars having a very high repair and parts cost so its always better to total loss the cars... And about that Ferrari it's a undercarriage damage.. This kind of damage on long run will have more impact and expenses on suspension system, steering and alignment problems with lower strength of other under carriage damage

The AMG GTR is STILL for sale. It's been relisted over and over because it doesn't reach the reserve. If you look carefully at the video, there's a dent near the bottom of the A-pillar. I assume that THAT'S what lead to it being totaled. I'm guessing there's some sort of frame damage associated with that. I'd STILL love to have it. That "Green hell" color is great.

It does get a lot of hate, and i attribute that to the fact that it is a front engined v8 grand touring car and not a v12. Had the California been released with the popular v12 nearly all other grand touring Ferrari's have it wouldn't receive near the hate it does from ferrari purist. The example shown in the video happens to be one of the best in the line up the California 30 (30 kilograms less weight and 30 more horsepower bringing it near 500 hp), and the last year the California had a naturally aspirated engine. I looked at this car on copart and really kick myself for not buying it. At the time it sold similar models with similar mileage were selling for north of 150k. having driven nearly all of the modern offerings from ferrari the California is one of the nicer cars for daily use. it doesnt receive near as much attention but has its distinctive ferrari pedigree should you ever need it.

The Mercedes is totaled out because of the damage behind the door, airbag plus computers, and then the fact that it's painted matte. In some cases, the whole car would need to be painted to ensure the color matches properly

I’ve seen a lot of comments saying because of the matt paint on the green merc you’d have to paint the whole car blah blah. What a lot of people don’t realise is that painting a car like this is pretty much exactly the same as painting any other car, the only slight difference is that you use a special clear coat that turns matt when it dries. The applying base coat and blending process is exactly the same as any other car.

IMO the FF wasn’t such good value. You can find those for just a little more with a clean title, or buy an earlier one and spend even less. Depending on mechanical condition, the regular R35 would be a great candidate for a track car. Just slap one some carbon doors, get a pair of TE37s and do a nice checkup/tuneup.

I’m a California guy who has owned probably 90 head-turning cars for personal use and they include MB, Jag, Corvette, Porsche, and Audi, as well as some elite cars like Ferrari and Maserati. That said, I was drawn to Copart as a way to own another interesting car and I began researching. What I found again and again is that the average car-freak (like me) would not do well with a Copart project car. Those cars are possible projects for someone who is in the repair trade and has access to a paint booth. But the average guy who drools over a wrecked super car will be getting no bargain. Beware.

The red Ferrari at the end was damaged by the dealership by an employee. The dealership can’t have a damaged car sitting on the lot nor can they sell it as used with a warranty if it’s damaged so they had to dump it or just eat it as a dealer demo. If they tried to play loose and fast selling it and Ferrari found, out they risked loosing Ferrari’s support on getting the exclusive new models. It also might have a hairline crack in that bottom frame railing. If Ferrari doesn’t sell that particular part separate from the rest of the frame then the insurance co will deem it needing a complete frame and that will total the car. No insurance co will authorize a repair on the frame of a super car. It’s a replacement section, or total frame replacement or just dump it as a loss.

The car I would recover would be the Merc. because of the resale and the minor damage. I know you mention the a-Pilar but that has to be discovered. The resale value of the car to a car enthusiast will be much higher than the GTR. The Ferrari for 75k with the damage underneath has most likely more damage than you can see. It could well be that it hit a concrete "traffic calming" bump and that the frame is slightly bend upwards. I had never seen the white Ferrari, odd that it has the engine in the front, like it though. But if it was me and I had a choice it would be the Mercedes AMG.

I believe the Ferrari was sold because the owner of the dealer was driving it (as many these days do) and he managed to drive it at high speed over a speed bump or some other object damaging the underside slightly, in order to cover this up he would sell it at copart to ensure no questions asked by anybody about the dealership and therefore keep a reputation
