my first car was a short lived prelude si aws, wish i could have had it longer but it had over 500k miles and still ran great. i couldnt say no to a deal selling it for 5x what i had paid after swapping a junkyard trans into it, but ill forever stick with hondas thanks to the great experience i have had working on them, starting with that prelude.

That generation of Honda is the pinnacle. I have a few 88-89 Accords and a 1990 Legend, and they are amazing to drive, reliable as hell, and when something does go wrong its usually nothing serious, and can be fixed easily. Even 34 years later, the Accords are more reliable than brand new cars (on average, my co-workers with brand new cars were going to the dealer for warrantee work once a year, while my Accord has gone strong for 12 years with nothing but balljoints, brakes and oil changes - i live in Montreal, balljoints come here to die. Cali cars have OEM balljoints, still.)

@@Ayeobe oh i 100% agree those early hondas are seriously meant to last. i feel your pain with the rot tho im in ohio where you get 4 seasons a day.lol ive owned a handful of much older hondas like a 74 accord and some of the little old 70s civics and they are just unkillable. up until the early 2000s honda made some of the most reliable cars then they went to crap fast. ive owned alot of newer ones that have been money pits, so i have stuck with my 04 tsx for the comfort and more or less reliability and power. after undoing alot of the rigging by previous owners its still been super solid up to 300k! of course it takes a good owner and maintenance to get that far with anything though. but the old 70s and 80s cars were the best of the bunch for sure!

I thought Sumpter Settlers might be a high school mascot but nothing. There is a Sumpter OK but it's little more than a wide spot in the road a ways north of OKC. Other larger Sumpters are in Michigan and Oregon. I considered a vandalized car a couple years ago. There was a van down in NC near where TK was, needed windows, tires and had some spray paint. But it was low miles and ran and drove. Just was too far away, I'd have to drive down and go back and forth getting new tires and bring glass with me. I would have had a glass company do the windshield, the rest I could do myself. With what vans and trucks sell for now, I probably should have done it, I would have easily doubled my money

The Mazda reminds me of my middle school carnival. They bought a rear ended like 90’s Avalon from a junk yard for $500 and let kids swing a sledge hammer at it twice for $5 and you could bring your own spray paint and for $3 let you spray paint it for a whole minute. They used the money and put it towards a fund raiser for the school! It was so much fun. I remember I spent $20 on it and made it where the trunk wouldn’t open. Good times. I really need that stress reliever again!

The recall was before 70k miles so I drove it up to 69,500 and they ended up replacing the whole turbo, I sold it with about 100k miles and had no reliability issues besides that. You’re much better off paying 80 bucks for that ‘85 Prelude than spending a dime on the ol’ C-wagon. I think like you said it would be good content - that would be the main impetus behind purchasing the vehicle - more than to sell it, just to showcase it. Not quite as dramatic of course as the Swamp Vette but another kind of interesting, potentially fun project to at least maybe get running and then cut the roof off of it and drive it like a go cart or something before scrapping :-)
