These are so expensive( followed along with) are they cheaper online, are they cheaper somewhere else, and you sure you want these? *cries in corner because they don't understand* But thank you for this video I might be able to purchase some good brush pens!

Cora Weigle fun fact! what we know to be “chocolate” (especially milk chocolate) isn’t as harmful to dogs as we think because of the small amount of actual cocoa in the sweets,,, however it’s obviously still not a good idea to feel it to them.. but yeah especially if your dog is big and eats some chocolate they’ll usually be okay, unless it’s really dark or bakers chocolate! a 45 pound dog would need to eat about 100 hershey kisses to have a problem (it depends on the dog though and their existing condition)

The colour code under the number on the Finecolours are actually quite helpful if you're a colour nerd like me; it's very similar to the NCS colour system. The first part tells you what colour it is, and the next code tells you how much black and white is mixed with the colour (or in this case black and clear). Let me use this code as an example: P80R20 b55w40. By looking at this code I can quickly identify it as a medium/dark gray with a hint of purple. The first code is Purple 80% Red 20%. That is the base colour, a purple leaning towards red. The next code tells me how much black and white is mixed with the colour; Black 55% White/Clear 40% which adds up to 95%; the last 5% is the purple colour. Another quick example: O100 b40w20 - It's orange mixed with 40% black and 20% white/clear.

Best thing to do, at least for me, is get some colors in the more expensive copics and get some in prismacolors. I have a set of cool grey copics, as well as skin tones in copic ciaos. The Spectrum Niors are GREAT in the darker and brighter colors and I feel they weren't given a fair review since you got a light set. Mine are super pigmented. I also personally prefer blending with the chisel tip, and though I love the brush tip, to me it isn't worth the price difference. It's better to buy the smaller packs of spectrum noirs, the ones with 6 markers. I get mine on sale from Amazon and you get a great set of colors. It's also better for me to get a smaller, cheaper set ($12) every so often instead of a $40 set very occasionally. My original set was the "Brights" set and I found it hard to color what I needed to color until i got my copic greys and ciao skins. I later got yellows, pinks, purples, greens, and warm greys in the spectum noir markers and now there's not many things I run into that I can't draw because I'm lacking a color. I don't think it's fair to say that the Spectum Noirs are "good for you to just mess around with". Basically what I'm saying is that your best deal is to combine two brands. Get Copics for colors that call for that level of quality, because its a little frivolous to drop $75 on a 12-pack of markers when you can get a 24 pack for $40. Or you could get ALL of the spectum noir colors for $106 on amazon. I blend just fine without the brush nibs, and Spectum also has GLITTER PENS. I will admit, thier greys are just ok and thier skin tones SUCK, but again. Fill those few tones with copics and you've got a solid set of markers. I've been using markers for about a year and a half, but I picked them up very quickly and I'm so happy with my spectrum niors, even compared to my copics. I've got a huge mish mash of art supplies. It's best to know what you can get a cheaper alternative of and what you need to buy the best brand of. For example, in acrylic painting. It's ok to cheap out on darker colors, you can usually get by and still have a really great end product. BUT DO NOT. EVER. BUY CHEAP WHITE.

@@jeonorjohn8718 From what I’ve heard (I don’t have them myself) they are quite good, but there are others better than them for a cheaper price. They are also quite expensive. There obviously not as expensive as copic, but Copics are probably more worth it considering that they are refillable and you can replace the nibs, which Prismacolors can not do. I would recommend Windsor&Newton since they are really good! They have their Promarkers and Promarker Brush. I’ve also heard that Ohuhu is really good and I also like the Spectrum noir Markers. (I haven’t tried Ohuhu myself, but I have tried the other two.) Hope you are doing good in these times and that I could be to help.

Other wise I would say the Prisma colors are amazing but you should buy the PB instead of the PM because the PB has the brush nib but the PM has the fine point and fat point so yea unless you want the hard fat point then you might want the PB and if you are curious what the PB looks like it has a wavy color pattern on the marker not the straight fat line on the marker or look at the caps that say PB or PM.

If you don't care if the tip is brush or barrel, I recommend you get the Ohuhu dual tipped markers. I got a pack of 40 for only $20 of Amazon and it was Prime. They are pretty saturated in color and they are really cheap. That also come with a case like the Finecolour ones. It has a very nice range of colors and shades and it comes with grey. It has the glossy plastic rather than the matte, the labels are printed rather than a sticker, and it is oval shape so it doesn't roll around. I highly recommend you get them if you are looking for a dual tipped markers and you are fine with a bullet nib rather a brush nib.

I may try prismacolors, based on the quality of the color. Although, this really cements in my mind that Copics are the all around best because they have a much larger selection and are more available in general. In terms of the alternatives, what did you think about the amount of bleeding through, or bleeding out of lines? Were they all so similar it wasn't noticeable? I tested out Prismaccolors in the past and felt like the ink spread much more than copic ink.
@julesn72719 жыл бұрын
Tbh, bleeding can occur differently with every paper. With the bleeding problem you have to know how to control it like knowing how far to place the marker so that you can get good coverage and without bleeding. I know with some papers it reduces bleeding by a lot like the canson marker paper and watercolour paper just sucks it downwards, now outwards I find. That is if you don't scrub off the sizing on it. But cheap paper does that like printer or sketchbook paper.
@MsFnmc9 жыл бұрын
Spectrum Noir markers really soaked my paper. With good white card stock, even with lots of blending...Copic still came out on top of least bleed through. But I was irritated I couldn't find a paper that worked well with the marker and didn't bleed to the other side, until....I found a newer paper made by Crescent called RENDR (but it is spelled with the last R backwards). It literally will NOT bleed through to the other side with maker, watercolor, deleter black ink from dip pens, etc. It only comes in white. The best price is found on dickblick.com. You will pay an arm and a leg on amazon. Hope this is helpful.

Oh I love those papers! I do love using it but I find that they make the colours look very dull?? I would have loved to use it more but seeing how it makes the colours look awful I just couldn't stand it.
@ArtByKarenEHaley9 жыл бұрын
That's true, that differet papers react to the inks differently. I am guessing Baylee used the same paper for all of these tests though, removing that variable.

I'm a million years late, but I do want to add something, maybe you can pin it because I feel like this is important to consider when investing in art supplies in general and would be nice for new viewers to see watching the video or you can add something similar in the description. Anyways, I want to point out that yeah, there are great alternatives that will save you money, but the thing is, if you want to expand later and get better makers, you're essentially losing money by buying an alternative first and going back and replacing them with Copics in the future. I say spend the extra few dollars on Copic sketch markers and start with the basics, so primaries + skin tones + a couple greys (it sounds like a lot but you can literally get by with 12 markers with those basics). The primaries mix together to get the secondaries, and then skin tones which are super important, and the greys allow you to create darker versions of those colors. So just get your basic red, blue, yellow (and green if you feel it's absolutely necessary, a set of 4 skin shades that are light to dark, two cool greys and two neutral or warm greys depending on what you want and of course the colorless blender which is probably the most important marker when using Copics. I don't even understand why the Ciaos even exist tbh other than saving you maybe a dollar on each marker? They are cheaper looking and are the exact same inside as the sketch, so I think it would be silly to not spend the extra little bit to buy a sketch originally.

I'm sick of people saying Copic is "The Best". Prismacolor was always what we used in College at Parsons and all I've ever used in my professional life, they handle WAY better than Copics, not to mention they are cheaper.

I use Prismacolors, Copics, and Promarkers but they depend on the art (like Copics for Realistic Portraits, Prismas for Scenery, and Promarkers for doodles). Mostly use the Promarkers since they look better inkwise :/

It really boils down to what the user feels comfortable using.. Prismas dont blend as well as copics, design markers "xylene ones that are discontinued" are the BEST for that. copics streak less

Everyone's opinion is different. I use Promarkers, Brushmarkers, Copics and Prismacolor. I've found that the Copics go on smoother and blend better, but I think that the Prismacolors are the most vibrant. It depends on what the user likes and prefers. :)

I have a few copics and a huge set of Prismacolors. I got the prismacolors on sale and started building a collection of them a while ago the biggest issue is if you get a set they have a lot of midtones but not a lot of lights or darks so you have to buy those separately, but other than that I think they're honestly amazing. I would by them over copic because they seem to last me longer (even though you can by copic refills) than any of my copics ever do plus i love the vibrancy and I feel like copic dosen't really compare there. Prismacolor is always the winner with pigment in my opinion

I loved this video, though I'll probably just stick to gradually growing my copic sketch collection. Something I would've like to see is the cat ladies colored as similarly as possible instead of having so many variations, to me it just would've been more helpful for comparing them to each other so you could see the differences in quality, pigment, ect. without being distracted by the changing colors. That's just my opinion though and it was still a very insightful video :D
@BayleeJae9 жыл бұрын
ArtChoo Baka I considered that, but since the colours don't match between brands, people would judge thinking "Oh that blue is brighter than that blue" when really it's because they are two totally different blues. I also factored in whether or not a certain hue had enough shades for me to shade in. Like if there is only one orange, but 3 pinks, I colour the shirt in pink. When I have only 24 colours, it's impossible to match the colouring job.
@artchoobaka9 жыл бұрын

Great video! Looks like you put a lot of effort into this, so thanks~! It seems like it's almost just as well to go buy some Copic Chao markers, which are the best quality anyways haha. I think what puts people off on copic markers is that they're over $300 for the set, and people see that and are like "ERHMYGERD so expensive!!!!" but really, like you said, the fact you can refill the ink and the quality of the markers makes it so worth it! But it's still nice to see that we have some options for other markers, even if they aren't the best! Now that you have all these markers, do you plan on using them a lot? I expect that, aside from the copic markers, the ones that will get the most use are the prismacolor!
@BayleeJae9 жыл бұрын
QueenKrissu I don't think I would get much use out of them since my colour selection feels so limited, especially with the 24 sets. I would need a colour chart with all 6 brands on the same page or something, haha. But I figured keeping all these is a little excessive considering I have so many Copics. I'm planning on keeping the Prismacolors and giving away the rest, likely for my 200k subs giveaway.
@MintedKrissu9 жыл бұрын
Baylee Jae I have another question. Did you test how these markers blend with other markers? Like, i assume they all blend with each other fine since they're all alcohol based markers, but could I use, say, the Tria with Copics?
@BayleeJae9 жыл бұрын
QueenKrissu I mentioned it as a passing comment and meant to address it at the end of the video, but forgot! They do all blend with Copics. I didn't test all possible combinations (like Prisma x Tria) but since they all blend with Copics I would assume they all blend together as well, especially considering they are all alcohol based markers.

Looked up the Letraset Tria markers. In England, they are about $8 per pen for a set of 24. You can get individual pens for like $2.30 as an add-on on amazon, so doing it that way would be REALLY cheap, if there's something else you're ordering, or you can go to the Windsor and Newton website (since Letraset combined with that company) and the Windsor and Newton Promarkers are $2.93 for the 12 pack. It looks like they don't sell the Trias anymore on their website, but amazon has you covered in case you prefer the Trias to the Promarkers

From this video I believe the Finecolor markers would be best for her except will they bleed through the paper and wreak the image on the other side? Any response from any familiar with the markers would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Jessica H I think it's the amount of alcohol the markers have.

Yes, they will bleed through to the other side. If she wants to use markers she'll have to sacrifice one side of the page.

honestly i reccomend using gel pens- alcohol markers bleed something terrible!

Why not use a copier/scanner and make a copy of the page she wants to color so she 1 gets to color all her pages instead of being out a page and 2 can color all the pages more than once as she wouldn't actually color the original. That is what my kids and I do so we all can color the same page rather than just one of us getting to color a page and the others have to suck it up. Saves on sibling fights too! ;)

rin rin they only bleed through thin paper- if you can afford thick paper, alcohol markers are so fun

I have a 100+ touch five marker set, that i got for only 2$ on wish, and im happy with them. In my opinion, its the best copic alternative because of the price, color, and quality. It came absolutely perfect, no marker was dried out and it came with a colorless blender.

Christeljoy_02 Is SugaFree wait... each marker was $2 or you got 100+ markers for a total of $2?!

I bought the Prismacolor markers, I agree with the case thing. When I take them places I just put them in this bag I found in my room. Also I agree with the hooks. They easily get stuck on the bands holding them in. I also noticed in the set of 24 there wasn't a great variety of colors, there was no grey or a good skin tone. I do think that they are good markers though, and like them. Another thing I noticed (which I am spectacle of) is that when I bought another set and I looked closer at them, the label wasn't as nice as the others. I also noticed that they weren't brush tipped. ALSO... the 12 set of markers (the ones without the brush) weren't that great of quality, whenever I used them it seemed as if the ink was really low. BUT OVERALL, they are pretty nice markers and do well in what they do (coloring)

I (personally) think that promarkers are the best alternatives to copics. Copics are overpriced.

Try Ohuhu, or Huhuhero. They are really cheap, you can get 80 markers for $40. And they are really good quality, the barrels are basically copied barrels, so they're rectangular, the colors match the caps decently well, you may need to make a color chart, though. But the marker names are easy to see and they are on both ends of the markers so you don't need to worry about what way you put them away, either. They only have bullet and chisel nibs, but they are really smooth. The ink is kinda spotty, but it's really not that bad. They layer and blend well, too. And they don't grab the paper.
