The one thing that has continued to stick with me and comes up often (from A therapist) is, she said that I was going to have to "Get comfortable with discomfort" and for me that's been key to not picking anything up. I've spent a lifetime trying to not "feel". I can finally say with confidence that I like myself. You're A blessing to us all LD Sidenote: my new addiction is Black Cherry Sparkling water..lol Love it!

GABA can help. It's a supplement you can buy at any vitamin store, Whole Foods, or online. It's the neurotransmitter essential amino acid that alcohol releases en masse when we drink alcohol that makes us feel relaxed and calm. Regular alcohol consumption depletes the GABA in our brains, so taking it supplementally can help restore it and lessen the severity of alcohol withdrawals. Also, a good quality B vitamin complex is always a good idea for alcohol abusers, and can help calm the nerves. Tylenol/acetaminophen is highly hepatotoxic (liver poison). Ibuprofen is safer, while aspirin is probably the least harmful to your liver.

Withdrawal is no fun at all! I've been hospitalized for acute alcohol withdrawal a few times, and once for delirium tremens, and it is absolutely terrifying! I don't ever want to relive that experience, but toward the end of my drinking "career", I wasn't drinking for fun anymore, I was drinking to avoid withdrawal. The first time it happened to me, I had no idea how dangerous it was or that it could be life threatening. Lesson learned! Also, I hated benzos! I only took them because the doctor put me on them for the withdrawal. They just made me feel like a zombie, and I've heard from others that benzo withdrawal can be as bad as alcohol withdrawal! Now as for anxiety and sleep issues, they have improved a lot since I quit drinking, I sleep so much better these days! One last thing I'd like to add is the importance of Vitamin B1 (thiamine) while in recovery. Alcohol depletes our bodies of this vitamin so taking a b1 supplement is crucial. I take a 100 mg tablet every single day with my breakfast. Thanks, LD!! ❤

I'm REALLY BAD at this - - is try to leave respectfully early, and the host says "why are you leaving early?" - - - I stay too long and miss the signals that they want you to go. I hear about it a few days or weeks later. How does one find that delicate middle ground, and leave at a comfortable time ???

All respect to you and your omission videos! May I ask, what are the symptoms to watch out for if the liver is not feeling well? I drank beer in between in the middle of 2021 until 2023-09-27 when I fell and broke my leg and my alcohol consumption came to the care. From the beginning I drank beer (3.5% alk percent) once every week, then it became several times a week and in the last three months I drank upwards of 22 beers per day. So a year later I have been helped with CBT therapy (CRA included), and have had individual conversations now with a good therapist for 4 months, but have had some minor relapses. Next Monday I will start in group discussions, which I am looking forward to. There will then be two group calls per week and one individual call each week. The group talks last three months, and the entire treatment a total of 12 months, but you can get "booster therapy" if needed. I have since received help with medication for my mental illness. Was very happy last time they took samples and said all were fine including the liver tests. But has occasional paralyzing anxiety. Be well and thanks for that great channel!

@KaraLey982 ай бұрын
At least the alcohol half-life is so short that your sickness is not going to be as long as for instance, another substance which has a super long half-life so then you’ve got weeks when you’re sick like that. It’s really tough no matter with thing you’re quitting though! I think alcohol half-life might only be a few hours right?

I mean, definitely you’re going to be sick longer than the length of the half-life but at least there’s an end to it..whew!
