You do great work. In this business we aren’t getting rich and it’s important to look after ourselves. Getting rid of dog poop yards and not being too nice with pricing. I’ve got many stories of customers who tried to take advantage of me and I progressively got more straight forward and blunt with customers as time went on.

Thanks for sharing your business plan. More customers isn’t always the answer, as you showed! Tip: How about a trailer tailgate assist such as Gorilla gate or something similar.. easy for opening and closing.. Not expensive & easy on the body. Great video.

Thankfully the carry-on has some super big springs on the hinges that basically do the same thing. Not effortless, for sure, but very doable.

Don’t blame you. I haven’t cut out bi-weekly’s [yet] but I have changed how I charge for them. I’ve gone the Blades of Grass route and charge double for them now. I have completely stopped doing 10 day and “as needed” mows. Completely messes up the schedule
@CopperCreekCuts

I like that method! Basically no incentive for a customer to do it then. I am just getting to where in July and August I absolutely HATE pulling up to a biweekly mow and don't like feeling that way!😁

Would more advertising help with using those ventrac attachments more.. like new home cleanups etc ?? Or mowing parks and gardens with local councils with the WAM ?
@CopperCreekCuts
@CopperCreekCuts 6 ай бұрын
Most of the local municipalities use prison labor, which I can't compete with. Advertising might help, but it would be chasing someone who isn't my core customer and would require longer drives. Possibly it could work, but just not sure I want to try it.

Brad, Todd from Illinois. Listening to you talk about your 2024 business, I too have made some changes for 2024. I dropped all of my 2023 residential customers that I personally did. I still have 9 small yards that my daughters father-in-law does for me with a push mower. I have retained the contract with the city in which I live to maintain their sewage lift stations (13 in all) and this year I have been awarded a contract do maintain another "district" within the city. Two of the properties is the industrial park area and the waste water plant along with some right of ways. There will also be some brush clearing and retention pond maintenance. Good luck this year and I will let you know how I am doing up here.

Hi Brad, have you looked into renting a big garage for all of the equipment? It might be worth it so you don’t have to sell anything to make space.

Wow your Ventrac is expensive. I wonder if a standard 26hp subcompact with an extractable flail could perform all of those odd tasks with half the price-tag. I was surprised too at how often I should be using my front-loader, it's almost silly not to have one. Not-commercially I dislike the noise of weekly mowing so it might be easier to keep those jobs if you had a battery option for seasons where the outside air is not too warm. I monthly mow using a PTO-bagger for everything. Whatever my subcompact can't reach will get sprayed & converted into something more time-friendly. Washing clothes from weed-eating is just something I don't want to do more than a 9ah battery's worth of time.

Would you recommend starting out with a 36 or a 48 for first commercial mower? Part of me wants to be able to use one mower to cut both front and back if I have a smaller gated house but part of me is willing to go with a 48 and just push mow or turn down houses I wouldn’t be able to get to.

Do you feel like you are having a hard time having/keeping enough clients? I want to do similar work to yours but part time so I'm not overwhelmed. Any tips on doing this like 2-3 days a week vs full time?
@CopperCreekCuts

I was happy with the maintenance work I was doing last year. It left time for random projects and volunteer work. I think right now I would like a second day full versus the one full day I have.

So for the sake of sounding like a hater. Are you a KZbinr that does lawn care part time?

No hate, it's a good question. In 2017 I was a full time stay at home dad that started lawn care part time. Posted some videos for fun and they took off. I've never been anything but someone splitting time between lawn care and KZbin.

I used Yardbook prior to Jobber and love it. I switched to Jobber because it tracks revenue on projects better and for lawns getting paid means tapping one button on a mobile app versus logging into Yardbook at night and roughly 3 minutes per job.
