At the start, I thought you were taking home some new sleek looking equipment, Brad. The demonstration is very interesting. Toro was secretly hoping you would trim the weeds for them. LOL😂🤣😅😆 You looked like the new x-Men, The Lawnman. with your lawncare apparatus.

The battery backpack is a great idea, batteries won't heat up as fast because they share the load. Can't wait to see what else it can attach to in the future!

I’m sure Toros products are fine pieces of equipment. This comment is directed towards the overall battery technology and for commercial guys. The only problem I have with battery powered equipment is batteries typically cost more than some of the actual equipment. Just like battery powered drills and saws etc… battery technology and equipment technology advances and then they stop manufacturing older models and older batteries. Then you have to buy new all over again. Where as gas equipment, as long as you can keep buying gas and oil, the equipment will keep running for years. They have longer longevity.
@CopperCreekCuts2 жыл бұрын
You aren't wrong batteries cost more than the tools (depends, of course, but in many cases). They are like razors. You get the handle for nothing because most of the cost is in the blades/batteries. That being said, if someone has actually run numbers on recharge cycles, price of electricity versus price of gas/oil/filters/maintenance and the gas works out better or even if electric is a better deal long term but they prefer gas, I am not here to say anyone is wrong for their opinion!

Like the looks of the trimmer, have watched some videos, one from Missouri and the guy ran it with the backpack for about 45 straight minutes. I'd be interested to know how far it'd run on a 2.5 amp battery. Also an accurate weight w/a 2.5 amp battery.

@CopperCreekCuts2 жыл бұрын
From what I heard all 60 volt stand alone batteries work with all 60 volt tools, including the new 10ah. That being said, I can't imagine you running it in any hand held equipment due to weight, but would pair nicely with mowers/snowblowers where weight is not as important.

I have the Stihl battery backpack for a handheld blower and that thing is awkward and heavy and the connecting line gets in the way. Here in California we are going to have to adapt to the battery stuff but I am not sold on it yet.
@CopperCreekCuts2 жыл бұрын
I have never loved handheld blowers for the weight and ergonomics. Hoping this style that clips on to the backpack is easier to use.
@ethoslawnmaintenance54522 жыл бұрын
Great stuff minus the blower. There is just no chance that thing can do a fall cleanup in New England with the amount of oaks and maples around here. I have a rough go at it even with a stihl gas backpack blower br430.

I would have to agree that I don't think commercial leaf blowers are ready for cleanups/leaf season! I think it will work well for my driveway/sidewalk blowing after maintenance accounts.
@jamesmcrae56742 жыл бұрын
Ill be honest. I use my hedge cutter to clear brush off my fence line. This would be perfect in a tree pruner version that would go up about 10-15’ with a smaller hedge cutting head.

With two 2.5 ah batteries it would be closer to 15-20 pounds, and would take 3 or 4 pounds off the trimmer. I sometimes have to use a 7.5ah in the trimmer when my 2.5s run out. The thing runs FOREVER on the 7.5 but is heavy as sin. 2 2.5 ah batteries will not be terribly heavy and should give a little more than double the run time of just using 2 2.5ah batteries, one at a time.
@Grimmblazee2 жыл бұрын

@CopperCreekCuts2 жыл бұрын
Their residential ones in home depot (they have a few models) come with a battery and charger for just under $200 to just over $200. Generallly speaking I think it would handle maintenance trimming for almost all properties under, say 3/4 of an acre. If you let your grass go three weeks between cuts you will need more than just the 2AH battery (a lot more load means a lot more draw on the battery), but if you are trimming every week, I think it should get you through!

Thx Brad

How would you say they compare to the ego or stihl system?
@CopperCreekCuts2 жыл бұрын
Right now they don't. Ego and STIHL have a full commercial line up to pick from, TORO only has these three prototypes (blower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer). Give them a year or two and I think they will be neck and neck.

I tried Oregon's 120 volt system a few years ago that had giant battery backs that were 15 and 20 pounds. I see myself using the backpack with a few 2.5 ah batteries for string trimming and edging. Not too much weight on the back and a few pounds less on the arms. Of course I don't know if that will be practical with the blower, so who knows?

Would not be interested, especially for commercial use. Used EGO trimmers for three years and they not only took more control out of the operator's hands, but continued with their quirky clockwise rotation of the trimmer head. Then came Walmart's Hart Tools and provided a cheap, "good enough" solution that I've been happy with for the past year. I'll stick with Hart, especially since they follow the same counterclockwise rotation as Stihl's trimmers.
@CopperCreekCuts2 жыл бұрын
TORO sent a residential trimmer a long time ago that I could NOT use because it spun clockwise. Thankfully the attachment system spins counter, so I have been using that for the past few months, but I understand the rage of a trimmer that spins the wrong way!

The technology is a good idea, and the performance looks decent, and maybe in the future (like 25 years) it'll be perfect, but until the technology is at 100% proven and guaranteed, I'll stick to the proven which is gas powered, battery powered just seems like it isn't up to par compared to gas

I know a lot of people have specific hurdles they can't get over when it comes to electric. Initial cost is a big one, as is the "empty tank" scenario (minutes to fill an empty gas tank, an hour to charge an empty battery).

I can't speak to your experiences with electric but your opinion is not at all what I experienced. Now I will for sure say mowers and blowers are not there yet for my needs. Thank you for commenting!👍
