Ok... just a few comments. 1\ I love the gun by itself without the projectile. The flames are so cool looking! 2\ The projectile makes this something that is totally usable in the coming zombie apocalypse. 3\ Only in Texas does this not even phase the police. 4\ THAT WAS AWESOME!!! That's all I have to say about that.
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
1) SO FUN! We shot it way more times than were necessary :D 2) Just wait till you see our next video! More types of ammo! WOO! Definitely fun to have something modular though. Thinking of making one that turns into a plane, but that might be too ambitious lol. 3) Haha, I'm sure there are a few other states :P 4) YAYY THANK YOU!!!!!
@bryannaholiday86824 жыл бұрын
Trust me in Louisiana 3 is true it wouldn’t phase anyone as u may be seeing we are going through 2 huge hurricanes and that hasn’t phased us so the police here wouldn’t even care that is unless you’re black which unfortunately for me is true so I’d never have the guts to do this
@roguewolf70534 жыл бұрын
3 is absolutely true in Mississippi as well! Although in most places here there would be no one around to call the cops & likely no cops driving around to see you. 🤷🏻♀️ Where I live it takes AT LEAST 20-45 minutes for a cop to respond even if someone called and that’s true for the majority of the state. Plus...where I live the National Forest land all around me is used by the local military base as training grounds..including an air to ground range where they drop training bombs(still very loud) just 7 miles from my house & the tank range only 9 miles away! So no one near me would even flinch if they did hear this. 😂😂
@BlueGangsta1958 Жыл бұрын
While undoubtedly cool, I think this would be a terrible choice as a zombie weapon. The long barrel makes it unwieldy and hard to reload, the loud noise would attract other zombies, and you need propane to keep it working. If you're surrounded by a herd, you'd either want something that shoots fast, like a semi automatic or fully automatic, or something that causes AoE damage, like a grenade or a Molotov. And if there's only a few zombies around you, you'd want something that's quiet, like a crossbow or even a melee weapon like a knife or a staff

I think you'd get a more consistent ignition if you put the spark inside the combustion chamber. Much better cavity for air-fuel mixing, than counting on air being pulled into the torch head and being able to travel down the thin tube. Maybe a grill starter like most traditional potato cannons, and use a stock (non-trigger start) propane head...?

Sorry it took so long for us to get back to you on this comment, we wanted to save all the suggestions in a google document for when we make version 2.0! Officially on the list, thanks for the suggestion :D
@chrisbloodworth726 жыл бұрын
EvanAndKatelyn I've been making potato cannons for a while. One of the problems you have is the ignition. As you stated you will be fixing that. But the biggest problem you have is your combustion chamber is too long. Cut that barrel about 1/3 shorter. What's happening it's your getting a slow burn and not a fast explosion. The longer chamber looks cool, but your losing efficiency in the burn. Cut that down and you get explosions that will rocket your projectile. A smaller barrel also increases your pressure but means you have to smaller projectile. So there is a trade off. You could also have multiple barrels with an adapter ring. Good luck, stay safe.
@jamiekimber30656 жыл бұрын
And you could use a magnet to load it
@SnorrioK5 жыл бұрын
Instead of the magnet holding the bullet, would skipping that and putting a hole through instead work better?
@solarsynapse3 жыл бұрын
If the spark is in the chamber, there is a chance of flashback where the fire follows the unburned gas mix back to the torch.
@Pipizzakitchen4 жыл бұрын
That flow through chamber is brilliant. A lot of work on propane guns has been done by the guys at spudfiles and can be found in the forums. Their guns have metered injection, PC fans in the chamber, and ignition from stun guns. They are great guys and will go out of their way to answer any questions. I have read things there that probably saved me a few times. Great video!

Good idea! That way the pressure doesn't let the bullet out
@bigsteve67293 жыл бұрын
The slightly bigger area is where the gas will escape because it's before the projectile, I feel like you thought of this because of a shotgun but that has a receiver arm which pushes and pulls the shell firmly into the barrel after the slide closes and the shell has a firm seal around the barrel which fires forward. This would probably blow the side out in this pvc gun

Me and my sons built one of these, and it was indeed a blast. You can add a psi gauge to the propane tube that will allow you to recreate the exact mixture. Also add a computer fan to the chamber and a thread capped vent to allow air to mix with the gas. Last of all, remember these cannons can take a life/do incredible damage, so be careful, y'all! Your cannon is big enough to send a projectile a good 300 yards, with the right mixture. Awesome video!

amazing video.. I cant count how many times I smiled watching you... i have some ideas 1. you need to add some kind of grip or a handle to help hold and control the weapon. 2. add a gauge to see how much gas pressure is in there before shooting. 3. add some extra weight on the front to help keep it balanced because i can see the rear part is heavier than the front. thank you for this amazing video.. keep up the good work
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
A handle is for sure on the list of improvements, thinking 3d print for that too lol :D maybe even when we upgrade it with a solenoid or electronic ignition, putting those controls in the handle! Since the whole thing is open to atmosphere no pressure builds up before firing actually, but I have thought about putting a pressure gauge in there to see if it responds quick enough for the pressure spike! Also extra weight to balance it is a good idea! We're also thinking of upgrading the strap configuration
@dannyd024 жыл бұрын
Back in 2014 when my brother Jesse and perfected the first clear-line gas cannon, we were both having issues with the ignitor. Sometimes it would fire, other times we'd have to click the piezo sparker more than once. You definitely want to hold the gas for three seconds then a full click for fire. After a few fires, you eventually do want to replace the Piezo. I like the rounds you've made for the clear-line gas cannon, that is super cool! Good job EvanandKatelyn!
@dannyd024 жыл бұрын
We upgraded our cannon to a large metal pipe with a smaller gas chamber made from a super beer can. The two fit together well and the steel beer can was just the right shape to handle the high temperature from the flame, I feel it is necessary to bring that to your attention if ever you two decide to do this and have read my comment. Shalom.

you have to blow in the explosion chamber because the first shot got a lot of air in the chamber already. then after that shot there is not a lot of air inside the chamber so you have to blow in the chamber. and the explosion gets bigger the more air is inside. thats why cars have turbos to go faster.
@rondekker1547 жыл бұрын
Love the video as always, especially your reactions to the madness. The usage of transparent materials is great as it allows a nice look into how the system works. The reason why I believe it doesn't work and needs to be angled down is the place of ignition. The ignition happens where the gas comes from. Normally air would be around this area, however the hose prevents this. Angling the device down allows air to enter the hose and creates a successful ignition, since it is less dense than the gas. If you create the ignition in the combustion chamber where the gas and oxygen can mix instead, it will probably work a whole lot more consistently. Now how do you get the combustion into the chamber? Well the same as Destin from SmarterEveryDay did. You can use two electrodes that are very close to one another but do not meet in the chamber and spark those. This should create enough energy to ignite the process.

I wonder if the angle of the combustion chamber has anything to do with the density of propane gas? Since propane is heavier than air, I would think that angling it upwards (as Katelyn did) would put more gas towards the ignition source and that should be better but use shows down is better. Could it be too much propane at ignition source results in not enough oxygen so combustion doesn't happen? What about two tanks - one propane, one oxygen - so you inject a fuel/oxygen mixture before combustion? Could be fun but could be dangerous. Either way, I must make one.

Yeah I think you hit on what is going on. When it is angled up the fuel mixture is too dense and there is not enough oxygen to trigger ignition. Haha YES we'd love to try the propane and oxygen. Two worries though: oxygen seems to be $$ and also is... well pretty dangerous lol! But definitely crossed our minds. Thanks so much for the ideas though, this collective brainstorming is SO fun!

This. Is. AWESOME. I found you guys through your Alec Steele collaboration (which was amazing!); you guys are so much fun! Your cannon design isn't the most efficient as far as gas usage and projectile velocity, but I dare say that it is the most visually spectacular, especially in slow motion! You could fire the bullets faster but, frankly, I don't know if it is worth the tradeoff in pure special effects magic.

Years ago on a Navy ship, one of the HTs (welders) made one out of steel pipe. Filled it with acetylene and oxygen. For a projectile he filled a Pepsi can with nuts and bolts. He fired it once. He had to repaint the shop because the impact and ricocheting nuts and bolts chipped paint everywhere. Be safe and have fun!

Try using mapp gas instead of propane it burns hotter and with more energy and also try putting a check valve or a ball valve on your air fuel inlet so when you're ready to fire you won't lose any pressure through your air fuel inlet pipe ... Use a stun gun for a power source and put two screws 180° apart from each other and your combustion chamber attach wires from the Stun gun to the screws for your ignition system... I would not recommend making your gun a breech loader because unless you have access to a lathe and can machine a sliding breach with triple O-ring seals in the front and back with a locking mechanism it will become dangerous ... But by simply getting the optimum air fuel ratio into your combustion chamber and having good ignition you could successfully should a screwdriver out of barrel and bury the entire shank of the screwdriver into solid wood.... If you try the screwdriver thing wrap tape around the handle to make it fit perfectly in the barrel and a little lube helps ...
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
Awesome tips! Yeah we were interested in MAPP gas but when I did a quick check I just saw it was hotter but it makes sense it would have more energy too so gonna check that out now for sure! I agree with the check valve and electronic ignition too. I was thinking of changing the head of the gas to a pencil type with just a needle valve and no intake, then going to a ball valve and check valve, then to the a tee which would have the wires from the ignition system feeding through a compression sleeve. The wires would be fed into the main chamber though, near the back. Mm yeah no lathe... yet :D

For loading mechanisms... Check out the term "break breech gun" or "break action." Alternatively, cut your breach in half, so that the top can come off. Drop in your round, put the top back on, reinforce the whole thing so the bullet goes down the barrel rather than straight up. "Reinforce" here could mean "have a second pipe that fits tightly over the breech, but slides forward for loading purposes." Also, if you haven't checked it out, take a look at Nighthawkinlight's take: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHOTYq2Fh656oaM
