As a professional pilot, it is against the law to allow an intoxicated person on board an airplane. There’s no middle ground. It’s in the federal aviation regulations. Failure to kick off a clearly intoxicated person could cost the pilot his license, or her license in my case. But this will keep happening as long as the courts keep failing to punish people like this.

I travel a LOT, and the vast majority of people are really understanding in these situations. In my experience about 5-10% of people get angry/annoyed and direct that emotion toward the officers/flight crew. Everyone else, and it still surprises me this is the case, respects the crew and officers. They thank them for doing their job, and can see that it’s not an easy job. I’ve been in several of situations where people have been refused and it has exploded into craziness like in this video, and every single time I start annoyed by the person but end happy at the level of compassion and understanding the vast majority of the public have toward the enforcers.

A commercial plane is a vessel: the Captain is the final authority of any vessel, period; if they want you gone, you GO. Be an adult, take your lumps, and move on. @jayrose63122 ай бұрын
Thanks for your service Chief! I am a 100% disabled vet that served in Operation Southern Watch. You make a great point, but there’s a technicality that we need to remember. Commercial vessels grant the commanding officer ultimate authority once they cross into international waters. With aircraft, it gets a bit trickier, but I had to learn it for Air EMS, basically the state laws apply once on the ground at a particular location, but federal law, granting the captain such authority applies once in the air. It made a huge distinction in emergency medicine as each state has its own set of protocols and only some offer reciprocity with others. So, once in the air, it generally comes down to the accepted national standards for the same reason. It’s crazy how what’s allowed when tending to a patient on a helicopter could shift so much when just crossing state lines. The officer had a really good point when he said that a business can simply deny service as you can’t get much easier than this and it gives jurisdiction to those officers. I’m not trying to nitpick, only share some really interesting things that I’ve learned along the way.
@JMicheleS332 ай бұрын
@@jayrose6312where in his comment did he say he was a Captain of anything though?
@jayrose63122 ай бұрын
@@JMicheleS33I didn’t think that I said that OP was a captain, I actually misread it and thought OP was the USN CPO. Otherwise, I was trying to use the term “commanding officer” as “captain” is more of a customary title than rank. For example, most ‘smaller’ Navy ships will have a skipper that holds the rank of Commander (O-5), but it is customarily called the “captain.” Now, ‘larger’ Navy ships such as aircraft carriers will be commanded by a Captain (O-6) and even the Executive Officer will be an O-6. There’s actually a handful of people holding the rank of Captain (O-6) onboard an aircraft carrier as each commands a different role. Commercial aircraft could be called otherwise, but officially the “Captain” is the pilot in command. Sorry for the confusion.

Every single time, the question has to be asked “Could this Nice Thing be exploited or abused by pondlife?”, and if the answer is “Yes” then none of us are allowed to have it. Airlines need to make it a law to not drink alcohol at airports. It’s a federal building; (I think) no alcoholic beverages! Maybe a cannabis bar?

Yes because the airlines are elected representatives of the People.

@@thomashenshallhydraxis no way.....95% of Americans do not want to smell that at the airport. Bad enough when people go to the smoking rooms and smell like smoke and sit next to you.....weed would be just as bad. How about no one drinks and no one smells at airports.....what a world that would be!
