This was a very weird place to be a teenager in. I wasn't from Leavenworth, I moved there as a freshman in High school and left in my senior year (95-99). I was spending the most awkward, strange years of my childhood in the most awkward, strange towns in the country. My computer teacher turned into the mayor (Elmer Larson) and my drama teacher was the voice of Lucy in the Peanuts cartoons (Tracy Shaw). My first job was at King Luwigs working for Bruce Laine, slinging ham hocks and going nuts from the yodeling. My mom showed her Art in the Park every weekend in the summer while my friend and I were hired as night watchmen for all the booths. I've livined in a lot of strange places in my life Busan, Bangkok, Guangzhou, Seoul. No where was ever as weird as Leavenworth. It both made me and scared me. Here's to you, you weirdo little town.

Leavenworth was the Pot Hub of Chelan County, but it was hidden behind a social wall. This is before the tourism thing really took off.
