Hi Webslinger Im hoping to tap into your pump knowledge. I recently replaced the cam plate, head and plunger on my 200hp 6 cylinder Volvo Penta. A leak initiated the work (cam plate was worn, head/plunger is a long story). Since doing the work, I've lost about 50hp and I'm blowing black smoke which suggests to me the pump is delivering the fuel but its not getting burnt. If power is down, black smoke is up, I would say fuel timing (I didn't remove pump from engine or touch pump timing piston etc) or the engine is air starved (coincidence that something else happened at the same time as the pump repair works). Do you think this could be a result of not calibrating the pump after performing the above work?

Do you mean somebody else removed the pump from the engine?

I would check pump engine timing first. Might be off a gear tooth.

Hi and thanks for the response. I did the work with the pump on the engine with the engine in the boat as removing the pump is quite difficult without removing the engine. I'm thinking that improper head and cam plate install on the pump could only result in the pump timing being out by 180 degrees (not a few degrees which would explain the reduced power). Other than power, the engine idles and runs fine

@@deanburrows3504 If the cam plate is installed incorrectly, it will inject 180 degrees off.

Yes so it couldn't be that because the engine wouldn't run so it must be something else

@@elvisvwvw I don't sorry. It's much more tricky to adjust since it does not use a load screw for basic pump adjustment.

@@elvisvwvw Bosch Diesel Tech undergo training to be able to have access for data and proper equipment. Could ask a bosch diesel service for help.

Hi there.I have a 40yr old volvo penta in my boat .Have replaced injectors and set timing.I put a guage on to test internal pressure whilst motor running. could you tell me an average pressure setting.as i am about to put a new regulator valve and fuel return screw.Wanting to ensure the pressure is correct as i think it is too high at present.VE pump basic no boost controller.Thanks

Calibration sheet is needed to know exactly what pressure is required. We often refer to the bosch number on the pump's name plate. A rough value would be around 4 bar with the engine at 2000 rpm (since pump rotates at half the speed).

When i briefly lifted revs up the pressure reached 7.5bar so thinking old regulator valve stuck or blocked

@@webslinger2011 finally got chance to get numbers.VE6/11F 1800L19.BOSCH NR 0460 416 002. I am going to fit new regulator valves if you could give me an idea of what the internal pressure is and also what the max pressure in case i need to set the new valves.Thanks for your assistance Phil

@@phillipsemmens1786 Could you ask a local shop for specs? Sorry, but I don’t have any info. The pressure still goes up to a certain level at different speeds. Too much though will cause the seals to leak.

Parts and Zexel info are available from bosch but you might need to go for training. Also, you can search google or use ebay, aliexpress etc. for parts and equipment as well.

@@павелклимов-ц7у They follow a training schedule. Robert Bosch South East Asia in Kuala, Lumpur Malaysia. You'd have to contact them and ask.

It depends on the pump calibration data. Set speed and pressure is specified usually at around 1000rpm.
