You really have inspired me to start my own coral farm in the future. I really love what you do and keeping SPS is such a passion of mine that I am trying to get right. I have struggled recently keeping them but I have done my homework and read a lot of books and gained information from local reefers in Los Angeles. I am shutting my tank down soon, moving to NY and this restart will do me wonders. Great video man!

The slow flow filter is interesting to me for clearing up the water. I inadvertently did that same thing using a Pentek GAC-5 filter cartridge in a 5 inch filter housing. It has a 25 micron prefilter which slowed the flow down considerably. A couple days after installing it and I noticed considerably clearer water. They are $2.76 each, so I plan to only run them every few months or so when I notice the water getting yellow.

Very nice video! Not only have your production skills really improved the flow of this video is very nice for a 14 minute video without speaking. I also really like the simple reactor designs. While I do have a couple of BRS reactors I have more than a couple of tanks that could occasionally use carbon polishing, I'll have to put 1 or 2 together.

Here in Brazil we use a lot of shrimp that we call a dancer (Lysmata wurdemanni or Peppermint Shrimp) to fight aiptasias, in addition to being a natural, permanent and reef safe control. Much easier to care for and can access places where a copperband does not reach, in addition to doing your job much faster than berghia. You only need to be careful if you have any wrasse in the tank, as they love to eat this type of shrimp

I added 10 berghai to a 80 gallon system about 2 months ago. 5 to a 29 gallon and 5 to a 50 gallon system, that are connected by a common sump. I have not seen them again. I have seen a couple of the aptaisa in the 50 disappear, but none in the 29. From your experience how long does it take to start to see the aptaisa disappear?

Ummm I thought someone would have asked this Abe but don't any of your fish eat the Berghia? I would have thought the wrasse and damsels would. I have peppermint shrimp that I put in early on (and I took out 2 bigger aptasia first with F-Aptasia. I still have them in my sump though - possibly I will get 3 Berghia and put them down there and see how they do but they are not worrying me and I have a dragon pipefish up top and plan on getting a few wrasse (incl a Tamrin and a Pencil. Another great video mate - the DIY part was awesome... now you got me thinking

Hey brother does that kessil light get warm? I'm still trying to get my bucket fuge up and running. I found a small enough bucket to fit in my sump after weeks of searching. But now my only concern is the heat from the light could possibly melt the lid to the bucket.. how do you keep that from happening? By the way my first acro is doing well. It's actually growing..the yellow tip is sprouting more yellow tips..if this acro continues to do well I will be buying a bunch of stuff from you 👏. I just have to make sure I don't kill acros first..lol
@CoralEuphoria3 жыл бұрын
Hey Marcos, I only have a problem with it melting the bucket lid if it accidentally gets bumped and the light is shining light on the bucket lid itself. As long as the light is centered Over the Hole, it is fine. But the heat is something to think about. Ideally having the lights sitting on some type of metal would probably be best. But like I said as long as the light is shining through the lid and not hitting the bucket lid in any way I don't have problems.
@marcosherrera6753 жыл бұрын
@@CoralEuphoria ok cool brother I appreciate the response. My bucket is going to be alot smaller than yours but I'm going to buy the same light you have. Actually I'm trying to buy everything you have as much as possible as I continue on my acro growing journey. If I'm half as successful as you are I would be absolutely thrilled bro..thanks for all your advice.

Mangrove does not add anything, Abe. It will actually contribute a bit to the yellowish of the water. The amount of nutrients that it will take is truly insignificant. Some of those black buckets, like the one you are using for your "bucket refugium", are made with recycled plastic, containing toxins, and are known to release phosphates in the water. Some of the blue buckets do that too. I avoid any colorful buckets and use only white ones because of that. Great video! Love the Berghia!! Thanks very much for sharing!! Always a pleasure to watch you videos!
@airforceone9384 жыл бұрын
Awesome video as always. I get nervous with having a razor blade that close to silicon. Do you have any wrasses in your tank? Your Berghia are doing really well I would guess you do not.

Hi Abe, going back a while when you built the 140g sump you included a DSB. Have you been able to qualify its performance? Cheers
@CoralEuphoria3 жыл бұрын
I took it out since putting in the bucket refugiums. I did notice changes that could be attributed to removing the DSB. So I don't know if it was doing anything.

what size would you make a rowaphos reactor for a larger tank lets say 80-130 gallons
@CoralEuphoria4 жыл бұрын
For running rowa on a tank that size, i would just get a regular reactor powered by a regular pump. The aqualifter pump isn't that strong and I'm guessing it would have a hard time pulling through a thick layer of rowa.
