Let's talk about how we've all assumed that the Beldam is using sand in her creations. In fact, if you stop and look closer, there is no sand being used in the Coraline doll at all!

I like the theory, but I think the reason one doll is filled with cotton and one is filled with sawdust, is because the "Other Mother" knew that the twin would sleep with it and snuggle it, and Coraline isn't the type of person to be all cuddly and snuggly with the doll. Anyway that's just my theory, I hope someone (if anyone) sees this they like it

I think so to but she had to see if the kids would sleep with it or not so she made her own material out of saw dust and used some dead fairy stuff with the items to make it softer the if it was sand\saw dust

I think you overlooked something crucial, the sand and the cotton represent their personalities: coraline is rough like sand (or in your case sawdust) and Wybie´s grandmother´s sister is soft like cotton (we see this in the ghost children scene)

I still feel like the reason Wybie revealed he was made of sawdust/sand/whatever was to show her that he didn't NEED to go. Because Coraline wants him to go saying "C'mon, she'll hurt you" but he shakes his head and reveals that he can't be hurt, as he is only made up of saw dust/whatever.

When the beldam says she has been waiting for coraline for a long time, couldn't that just be her lying to make coraline feel even for special rather than the beldam being able to see into the future?

I still want to know 🤔 she could possibly still be the child mother because I’m sure the child would want to meet the mom they never met and pretending to be the mom that they envisioned by getting info from her victim directly or through fake dad, the Beldam can masquerade as becoming the mom of their dreams after the “puppet dad” tells her everything.

I like what you did with the sawdust and fairy dust. it might tie into the theorizer's theory on calling it "soul sand", because it someone acts like a SAND, but is actually sawdust mixed with a magical substance(fairy dust) therefore making...a SOUL SAND! Because a fairy is magical and the Beldam may be part fairy, she could probably manipulate it into a soul sand, that's why she can control the copies. also going into the theorizer's theory about how too much means less control.

I like to think that the sawdust is the "life essence" of the children and maybe even the beldam herself and the reason it turns into cotton is the life essence running out and turning to a regular object and she uses the essence to give life to her creations

I really like this theory, and all of your other ones for that matter, but why did the Beldam switch to sawdust? If she had access to wool (or cotton) then why make the switch to sawdust when the mills came into business. I mean she only ever uses one doll at a time and presumably its the same one so its not like she doesn't have enough wool because she pulled the amount of wool she would always need in the start of the movie. Also wouldn't a doll with wool in it be more appealing to a child than one filled with sawdust?
@WitchVampZoe
@WitchVampZoe 7 жыл бұрын
I think if the saw mills did find the well and decide to dump a load of sawdust down it, the beldam would probably want to make use of it to get it out of the way
@willowowens1283
@willowowens1283 7 жыл бұрын
But the Beldam is already using it for her lesser creations (Other Wyborn) so why also use a small fraction of it to create a doll which will come right back with the sawdust, it would make sense for the Beldam to keep using the wool or cotton for the doll (as its more appealing for children) and maybe store the sawdust (if we are following The Fangirl's theory the beldam has plenty of room with her Other World and Pink Palace look a like who knows what else she has) and then use it for future needs like if another child found their way to her and the Beldam needs to create one of their friends etc. I don't know if I'm missing something (I usually am) so please correct me if so.
@WitchVampZoe
@WitchVampZoe 7 жыл бұрын
good point, I don't know but maybe the sawdust in the doll does get replaced after one use, as the cotton wool she pulls out in the beginning doesn't appear to have anything wrong with it, but she still replaces it so maybe she uses all new things for each doll with the exception of the material used for the doll itself? maybe because the fabric used is special or maybe she only gets 2 uses out of that material because she turns it inside out...and as we don't see her make a third one we don't know what her manufacturing pattern is for the dolls 🤔❤

The beldam is kinda like the witches in madoka. Being able to make different dimensions, inviting people and objects into it and there have been examples of both controlling people like with the witches kiss. Plus the witches have some type of form based off something in real life, like the beldam with insects and she looks kinda like a spider in the end. I don't think there is a real connection, just something I noticed.

The Beldam never says that she's been waiting for Coraline for a "long time". She only says that she's been waiting for her. Meaning, since she made the doll and it got to Coraline, the Beldam has been waiting for Coraline to go through the portal. So I think that statement brings no evidence that the Beldam can see into the future.

I was thinking about the gap between the 1960s and 2009. what if that cat is a Wybee's dad hence how protective the cat is of him and the accent. My thought is that the dad gave up his own "life" as a way to keep his son safe knowing what happened to his aunt but knowing that the Bedlam can't be trusted the cat and the grandma set out to keeping Wybee away just in case.

This is a pretty cool theory! Before this, I kinda thought that maybe the soul sand was magical. When it was filled with heaps of magic, it was this thick, dense, heavy sand (like it was at the start of the movie with the doll). But when the Beldam was loosing her magic closer to the end of the movie, the sand was loosing it's magical properties and because thin and lighter - sawdust. Therefore, the sawdust could not contain enough magic for Wybie to leave the other world, but maybe if he had tried earlier, he would have been able to? There are a lot of things that could probably falsify this theory, like what about the mice? But I thought it was a cool thought that adds on to your's/the theorizors videos :)

If we're continuing with the magical aspects of the beldam, like a witch or fairy etc, then the "sand" COULD actually be herbs and stuff for magic. Sawdust is used with magic too, so it being also herbs would solidify the dolls magical nature.

A little theory of my own is what if Coraline going through the door that was previously bricked off, but mysteriously not bricked up despite no previous evidence that it had been taken down, symbolises her passing away (dying)? And everything she experiences is the after life? Alternatively, Coraline going through the door could symbolise her entering a coma and her living with the beldame (or however it's spelled) is what she experiences while in the coma, but when things start to go wrong (when her parents go missing and no-one bothers lifting a finger to help find them, etc.), that's her body dying/doctors performing surgery to try and save her, but failing and the fake real world is herself making it up because she doesn't realize she's no longer among the living.

What if the cat knew the well was a portal to the other world? That would perfectly explain why he stood in front of Coraline, blocking the door when she was about to leave to dispose of the key down the well. It was as if he knew what she was thinking.

I saw a comment on a KZbin video referring to the dolls in the intro for Coraline. It stated that the reason Lovat's twin sisters doll was made of cotton was because her twin had a softer personality. Her soft personality is what led her to be tricked and killed by the beldam. When the beldam went to make Coraline's doll, she made it with saw dust. The saw dust is mean to represent Coraline's personality and that Coraline's more stubborn and resilient. This is why she escaped(even though she's still in the other dimension) the beldam but Lovat's twin sister didn't. I believe in your theory about the different dimensions and the pink palace limbo but Coraline wasn't tricked by the beldam to the extent of getting killed like Lovat's twin did. Also, if the beldam can create a whole other dimension then why is it weird that she has dust? Can't she just create the dust like she created a whole other dimension instead of trying to make a theory out of it? I still love your video's though

isn't there a part in the movie, i think its the part where shes going through the house counting the windows and such, where she goes to get the doll to go to the next room and it's mysteriously not where she had left it, but in a different spot in the room entirely. Like it moved there on it's own when she wasn't looking. Meaning that the doll can move on it's own.

I think in context, it is more viable to use sawdust for production purposes. Wybie blows his hand away and sand would not have been able to have that effect on film -so something lighter would have been needed, hence sawdust. I don’t think these movies are meant to be theorised to such a deep extent (though it IS one of our favorite things to do because it keeps things super interesting!). I just think to make a good movie, so many things go into consideration to make it work. And it’s a real headache (I would know!)

Kinda small theory about the time whybi left the doll on the steps. In the movie Coraline goes to the well, we all know this and the stick is poison oak, when she gets home she says to her mother “I almost fell down a well yesterday” and her mom replies “ah huh”. Coraline says “ I would’ve died” but. Note she says yesterday giving whybi Time to get the doll and put it on her door. But the doll looks old the jacked is frayed as if it has been moving and it has mud on it. Then later in the movie the first time Coraline goes through the door if you look at the windows it’s just swirls which is kinda weird. So it might suggest that there are actually three floors to the theory and every time she sleeps she goes back to the first floor. And when she gets out of the tunnel there are stars out. These are just some things I’ve found out. I don’t know about them though. So yea.

I know I’m three years late but the idea that the other mother makes the dolls in advance with future vision also explains why the coralline doll was in Mrs. Lovat’s possession. She’s too old to be wandering around and finding it recently

I thought that the material inside the doll reflected the personality of the child it was "copying"Like, the doll of the missing twin had cottom, a fluffy and delicate material, kinda matching how sweet the girl's personality is shown to be(at least how much we seen of it)And coralines is sawdust because she is a rebelious adventurer with a very strong personality, so it makes sense why the hardy remains of something as resistant as an enormous tree would be used to stuff her copycatMaybe the dolls of the other kids were stuffed with other kinds of ingredients to match them as well

These theories are amazing .....give this movie so much more depth but I wonder if its creators actually put as much effort into the intricacies or if they were just creative and thoughtful enough that they created a movie that just keeps on giving like the matrix

The Shakespeare Festival was actually put in there to explain Spink and Forcible, British actresses, living in the Pink Palace. They either looked for parts in plays and such or enjoyed the festivities. Maybe both.

I always just figured the twin sisters doll was filled w/ cotton bc The Other Mother knew that the twin sister was at the age where kids are more likely to play w/ dolls( in the picture w/ the two twins Mrs.Lovett seems a bit jealous/envious of the doll her sister is holding) so she stuffed it w/ soft materials, whereas Coraline's doll was filled w/ sawdust bc The Other Mother knew that Coraline was "Too Old For Dolls" and would keep the doll mostly for decoration(even tho she does carry the doll around at the beginning) I just wonder what the doll used to look like/ what The Other Mother used to spy on the ghost children when they were alive, especially given the different time periods those children come from.

Okay Fangirl, first I love your channel and I watched all of your Coraline theories. You have inspired me to really look into this movie more. One of my theories is that you give the "other mother" too much credit and power. I believe that the other mother needed Coraline to complete the magic needed to get to the other world. What if the children unknowingly brings magic. This would explain why she says that she needs them, why her magic becomes drained over time, and why she needs them to love her. I believe that the magic is bigger than her , because if she so powerful she would just take the children outright. I believe that the magic well is magic she feeds off but is more powerful than her. I do believe that because she is evil, the universe provides things that can stop her like the cat, the seeing stone, and the key. The key is not hers but something she uses until it won't work for her any more. What if the more she uses her magic, the more she is drained of powerful magic. This is why some of her less powerful creations starts to defy her.

I just realized the other day that in the photograph of wybie's grandma and her twin, the girl with the doll who's smiling might actually be wybie's grandma and the unhappy girl is the twin that was taken. Wybie said that his grandma wanted the doll back because it was hers, and also if the twin didn't get the doll and was unhappy with the normal world then wouldn't she be more willing to go into the other world forever? I don't know what this would mean about the doll's properties, though...

When Wybie asked Coraline for the doll back, she couldn’t find it. The reason why was because the Beldam once again took it and modified it to turn it into a two sided doll that looked like Coralines Parents, hence, the one she found under her parents bed.
