This would be really helpful. I've been riding the struggle bus for way too long with my new rig. Using the 14900k, Apex Encore and i have two different ram kits ive been testing. The Gskill Trident Z5 48gb 8000MTs and a set of Dominator Titanium 48gb 7200MTs, and i cant get this thing running stable for the life of me. Seems like these 14th gen cpus are a bit finicky. My last build was using the 11900k on the Z590 Apex and I had a custom stable tuning completed in like a night or two and never had to mess with it again for the last 2 years. This new build is making me crazy lol. There's so much conflicting information online, and so many new and unfamiliar settings in this current gen of Intel. Would greatly appreciate a guide like this with the Apex Encore.

I would really love to see a good guide with either of these cpus and the Apex Encore. Lots has changed since my 11900k build and im a bit overwhelmed tbh lol. I learn so much more easily from good instructional videos vs reading guides. Seems these cpus are more finicky now.

For my 13900k and 14900k I have done the following: MCE off, PL1 and PL2 limit to 225, limit P-core boost to 5.5 GHz and E-core boost to 4.3GHz, and use balanced power profile in Windows (although I do disable core parking to keep system highly responsive). Oh and just XMP on the RAM. I didn’t change LLC value. I have set voltage offset at a modest -0.015v and set the Core limit to 300 Amps. I have disabled the C6&C7 C states and EIST. Lastly I have locked AVX at 0 offset. I have tested on P95, CB R23 and CB R15. All great and in a mid 20 degree room, no workload exceeds 80c on package or cores. Very happy and benchmarks are very close to where they were before taming these beasts.

Have t managed to get it there yet stable even with a 1.45 or even 5v... Just can't do it. Not sure if it's Intel microcode junk messing with the power supply directly to the CPU

So I'm trying to lock in my cores and voltages for 14900K so it doesn't degrade from auto voltages like what's recently been reported by many users. However, I'm on an Asus Z790 APEX Encore board so I'm not sure how much of this video translates over. I'm not an expert at all at overclocking so there is a lot of this I don't quite understand or follow. I also found you had an overclocking guide #53 for 13900KS on the Z790 Maximus ROG board which I feel like might have more similar settings since they are both recent Z790 ASUS boards. Would you recommend following that instead since 13th and 14th gen CPUs are basically identical

This video is very interesting. I am French and I use a translator on KZbin, so I'm not sure if you mentioned that when selecting an option like (for example, x60x60x57x57x57x57x57x57), and the mask cores settings are set to run at x60x60x60x60x60x60x60x60, Windows seems to lose track of which 2 cores is preferred at 60x. This causes a sort of "train dance". Indeed, every two minutes or so, each core switches to 60x, then switches and moves to the next core (+1), and Windows seems to automatically move is main kernel programme windows hard , and so on, to the cores. This cycle repeats endlessly. two cores 60x switch kernel windows indefinetly . I wonder if this could lead to security issues in Windows, but since the Windows kernel constantly shifts for 2 cores in 60x, this could have an impact. I think it would be useful to mention this detail; it is still interesting to see that the wear on the 60x cores is distributed, as it’s not always the same cores that reach 6 GHz, which helps better distribute the load and avoid wear on cores that would constantly run at 6 GHz. This also applies to all Raptor Lake processors.

I’m a little confused by your voltages. I have the same processor, same exact board, and even same water block and same exact RAM. However, using almost any of these sets of tweaks, I can see VrVout peaking at up to 1.6V and it makes no difference what LLC or negative offset I use. I’m guessing you’re looking at vcore and not VrVout but even so those voltages you’re getting seem insanely low. Even when my AI biscuits score is around 90. That’s why I’ve been so frustrated with my overclock is because I hate seeing spikes up to 1.6V on VrVout.

@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher 10 ай бұрын
The user cannot change the factory-fused voltage frequency curve of an Intel CPU, except: 1) The highest V/F Point, where the user can change the VID and ratio 2) By using V/F Point Offset (Advanced Voltage Offset), the user can offset the factory-fused V/F curve 3) By using the various adaptive and override voltage options. Hope this clarifies better :)
@nsday1
@nsday1 10 ай бұрын
@@SkatterBencher That's what I thought. But stating about them being "fused" kinda made it seem like you couldn't affect the V/F points 1-9 (or 10, can't remember) at all. I spent about 4 hours trying to tweak those like you were saying in your video (I watched many, many times, and took notes), but had no luck at all. I did have luck by simply setting VDroop to 5 and Core Voltage to 1.35V. No "overclock", but my 14900K would work full speed with no thermal throttling; meaning CinebenchR23 ran all core at 5.7GHz and I got a score of 42,727. Running multiple times I always get in the high 42K. No luck in overclocking at all; not without it downclocking for thermal throttling lower than it's base speeds. I think it could probably do well with the V/F points 10 and up, but I haven't figured out how without it thermal throttling.

Why do you use those IA AC/DC loadlines when you can just use offsets?
@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher Жыл бұрын
AC/DC loadline will vary its voltage adjustment based on load, whereas V/F curve and voltage offsets don't. When using a too high IA AC loadline setting, you'll get high voltage in idle and lower voltage under load. So for a given target ratio you can be both overvolting ("doesn't need that much voltage in idle") and undervolting ("needs more voltage under load") at the same time. IA AC doesn't need to be 1 (or 0.01 on ASUS), but I prefer it to have better control over the voltage especially at the high-end of the V/F curve. So I minimize the impact of IA AC loadline, then use the voltage offsets to finetune.

As you mention cinebench r24 cant run 5.8ghz, have you ever try cinebench r15 on raptor lake?It is surprisingly hard to run as a non avx workload. On my system r15 is as hard as r24. R15/R24 doesnt pull that much power as prime95 sffts or occt small, so the cpu wouldnt down clock to stay below tjmax, sometimes they are harder than small ffts, but r23 is pretty easy to run, do you have any idea why r15/r24 much harder than r23 on raptor lake ?
@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried other Cinebench versions too much, especially R15. But even though R15 doesn't use AVX instructions, I recall it would still trigger the AVX offset on older Intel CPUs. So it's heavier than an SSE workload but not as much as an AVX load.

@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher 10 ай бұрын
The "easiest" but also quite advanced way to undervolt the CPU would be to adjust the AC loadline. Advanced Voltage Settings > CPU/VRM Settings > Internal VR Control submenu > IA VR Config Enable to Enabled. Then Set IA AC loadline to a value that's lower than what's currently reported in the BIOS. I strongly recommend steps no larger than 10. So if the default value is 60, try 55 or 50.

Isn't 100C for an average temp too high generally speaking?
@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher 9 ай бұрын
The 100C is only for worst-case scenarios. In real-world workloads the average operating temperature will be lower.

Would direct die cooling affect the performance in any way?
@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher Жыл бұрын
Direct die would improve the thermal transfer from the die into the loop. Since my cooling solution has thermal capacitance headroom (water temp below 40C), it could yield additional overclocking headroom as well

If only intel had its own 3D vcache with this kind of clock speeds, it would be killer, however with that kind of temperature ir would be dead with 3D cache

Thanks a lot for this video. I’m running an i9-13900K in this same motherboard. I take I have to adjust the OC parameters you use on Strategy 3 to make it work. For OCCT test did you run the small or the large data set?
@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher Жыл бұрын
Yes, the settings I provide are illustrative in the sense that they worked for my system but may not work for others due to silicon lottery. Yes I run the small data set to put more stress on the CPU cache.

I don’t know why but this format was difficult to comprehend and follow. I’m gonna stick to xmp 1, disable asus multicore enhancement (drops me 10°), and mess with xtu optimizer or ai assist.

It's interesting how the V/F curve is exactly the same as a 13900k. You'd think the 14900k would be a bit more power efficient, hence the ability to reach 6GHz at stock. Maybe it's the motherboard manufacturers not updating it when they updated their BIOS.

they do clock higher with less vcore. now the adaptive and thermal velocity setting's are shit IMO (and quite a few other) all core will be cooler and preform better. I've seen a 13900kf at 6.2 all core and a 14900k at 6.3 but both of n these were on custom loops with direct die cooling. you can get 5.8-5.9 on a good aio 320 rad on 14th tho and pulls less power but most that's probably the ceiling, all you could do once either silicon or cooling is what's capping(let's pretend we're using the apex encore best ocing board change my mind) you delid and lapping the die with a custom loop o

Perhaps after ranting your CPU for months you could let us know if it survived given the recent bust up over the plebs overclocking their expensive Intel chips and given them premature failures.

This guy is the epitome of having just enough knowledge to be dangerous - these are horrible OCs. Dude thinks being pegged at 100c in every workload with no power limits is a great idea, and I'm not sure anyone who has copied these settings has had success.

Just do some standard overclocking then, or even go classic overclocking by locking your P core, E core, Ring frequencies and put one stable Vcore value on it all. Works very well.
Motherboard Default settings could be COOKING your CPU!
