Every day I check to see if MWG has more AOS. Excited for this series since I started playing a month ago so this will be good to help solidify the rules. (1k pt games still take my girl and I about 3 to 4 hours and I think that's a bit over average lol)

I know. I feel like GW are throwing out editons like there goimg out of fashion. Gone are the days where editions lasted for 6 years and the rules were just updated for free download

There is still one problem that I have about AOS in talking about the setting and the realms, The realms still feel too small. You tried to set the scale for the realms in travelling through the realms. Warhammer fantasy had more established and a sense of scale, but in AOS the scale of each realm keeps changing in part because the player is allowed to tell his/her own narrative on the tabletop.

Well the scale actually doesn't change its more that there are many unmapped and more unexplored areas that don't show up on established mapping. This is done precisesly to allow for narrative creation (same way not every planet is named in 40k). But the currently mapped areas are the the most contested regions of the Mortal Realms. The realms are shown consistently as bigger than the old world.

or you could just get battlescribe and you know, build your army for free. also don't buy the starter boxes like soul wars, they do not contain all the models you need to field the full army and they are not balanced. Start Collecting is usually pretty good though.

Hi team, my 11 year old nephew just got a Warhammer 40K Age of Sigmar box set out of the blue.

His dad is helping him with assembly and they’re both enjoying painting.

Neither was prepared or had previous experience with anything like the rules.

I’m an old 3d6 rpg kid who shares cmgs (d&d, sw, heroclix) with my own kids. I am aware of WH systems but not enough to teach.

I was wondering what the best option would be for a 40K-lite, small squad or skirmish set of rules they can learn and then grow into full GW complexity.

Recommendations?

Kill Team might be a good way to get started. However it’s rules are quite different from normal 40K, but it has the advantage of only needing a few models to play.

Personally I like 40k's 2 Inch version of the rule better especially for models like the Prosecutors because of their wings being about twice the size of a Liberator

I’ve been playing 40K for a year, and now with quarantine I got bored so I got the AoS core book, then I got inspiration on painting my own Stormcast Eternals, so I soon got some of those, and want to get some Seraphim. I like the core rules overall, very suitable for a medieval warfare style game, but I despise the unit rules. The to wound rules are weird, and overall it seems it’s more about the weapon than the unit. I feel it was only a prototype for 40K 8th Edition.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful game called Warhammer Fantasy. Then, the Apocalypse happened and the game was ruined with excuses such as "its too complicated for new people to get into", "The entry cost is far too high", etc. Now, there is Age of Sigmar... heresy. After the joke that was first edition, they are making the game more complex again to actually make it enjoyable. But now the models are absurdly expensive, even more so than before. So that the entry to the game is still too expensive, but now you get less models for your money. Oh the irony!

@@danepatterson8107 Or you could 3d print it (use a SLA 3d printer not FDM, its terrible, but for terrain use FDM printer, also the cheapest sla 3d printer is the Sparkmaker) and make casts of it and make more molds, saving ALOT of money on miniatures and even terrain ;) (Also its actually illegal to sell 3d prints of them, but you can still play with them).

I love GW switched from the overly complex Warhammer Fantasy game which had a Core Rulebook and an Army book to the far more simple system of having to buy and manage 3 books (the core book, the general's handbook, and the army book). Actually the constant updates with the Generals Handbook is actually what I like about AoS and 40k. And AoS desperately needed to be updated to 2nd edition to fix a lot of the problems from 1st edition. But I think the biggest problem here is that you saw a problem with a company and then just decided to name call both the company and its customers.
