This Corelli is amazing. How come he does not have as big a name profile as Bach and the others?
@louispitagno94223 жыл бұрын
Good question. He definitely influenced Bach and his generation
@markussabogabriel58463 жыл бұрын
Because Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi and Beethoven are better, but he was the pioneer, so it is said.
@eljanrimsa58433 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert, but the music in his time was simpler and limited in its creativity, e.g. no dynamics, no piano (the instrument was invented in 1700). Bach was the first who successfully incorporated the new influences into a more complex type of music. The others who followed Bach built on his work, and went even further up, replacing old restrictions with new freedoms and growing complexity.
@annk.87503 жыл бұрын
@@eljanrimsa5843 This particular collection has only sonatas, simple in comparison with the richness of his concerti grossi. He pioneered the use of the violin, and his influence on music was such that many other baroque composers paid homage to him by including parts of his compositions in their own.
@thomasdastillung40972 жыл бұрын
He IS unrivalled for strings concerti and IS a Pioneer in this genre knowed by all the latter composers. But also in terms of production it is quite reduced compared with JS Bach 1080+ pieces or Telemann 2000+ pieces or Graupner. Thus he is less recorded and played and then known. Same goes with french baroque that IS comparatively unkown despite one century of production. Also scholars did not rediscover the gems of the past.

While beautiful in every single piece, I am a bit shocked about how self-derivative and mechanical Corelli's work is. At every corner his Concerti Grossi Op.6 shine through - or the other way around. Excellent performance in any case. Saying this: I think I could do without Op 6. The trio sonatas - a musical form which I consider the litmus test for a (mid-to-late baroque) musician - in itself are remarkable.

Don’t underestimate humans Tom Mach. But heavenly music it is indeed.
@AndrewJens5 жыл бұрын
Absolute nonsense Tom Mach. So that would be the same "holy spirit" that causes new-born infants to die and therefore ensure that they will never have a musical experience? You can't have it both ways. Like all composers, Corelli's wonderful output is nothing more than the ingenuity of a (highly) evolved human. As the only available evidence and facts show us: only man can produce such wonderful music.
@michaeldavidrubin88235 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewJens Metaphysical quibble, here, Andrew (& assuredly no preaching): You bring to mind the old European paranoia (if that's not too strong a word) about King-&-priesthood oppressing the peasantry. Yes, that happened. However today, any mention of someone's non-atheistic views need not trigger scorn. In this very positive classical music community, why not let people express their appreciation through their own personal feelings? As to the "nonsense," yes creatures don't do algebra, compose operas, etc. There is also not a shred of "evidence" to explain human capacities, either - evolution, even granting its many apparent gaps, merely begs the question.
@AndrewJens5 жыл бұрын
@@michaeldavidrubin8823 Re. _"why not let people express their appreciation through their own personal feelings",_ you do understand that I'm not in a position to stop people from doing anything they want around here? Why not let Tom Mach defend himself … if he chooses? Re. _"There is also not a shred of "evidence" to explain human capacities",_ but you are missing the point. This is not about explaining how we have capacity; the point is about _observing the results of that capacity._ The only evidence we have is that humans do create such works. This is no evidence for a god (of any type) and therefore there is no way to correlate such a being with the production of such works. The OP's words annoy the "hell" out of me because they denigrate humankind.

@@AndrewJens Well, the KZbin censors seem to have thrice eradicated what I hoped would be a courteous reply. My polite suggestion would be a.) study the dual nature of consciousness, for physics or meta-physics, both innocent; & b.) find a university Safe Space & commiserate with undergraduate snowflakes for mental comfort; & c.) kick back with a fine bourbon or brandy - always helps the annoyance, no?
