what I don't understand is why the settlers aren't held accountable. Isn't it actually illegal activity to settle on another person's land?
@joejohnson6327
@joejohnson6327 Жыл бұрын
Of course it's illegal, but Israel is basically the biggest U.S. army base in the world, which means we're all supposed to pretend the Israeli government hasn't been shamelessly dispossessing the Palestinians of their land for decades. In 2022 about 0.7 million Israelis lived in illegal settlements outside Israeli borders. 😶

I am an Egyptian who worked as a doctor in one of the United Nations hospitals in the West Bank. I used to see many women and children who were victims of settler terrorism. Unfortunately, the occupation neglects to hold those involved accountable. In fact, some officials in the occupation authorities encourage this to displace more Palestinians.

To be fair it was only four interviews total. But still, I agree awful ways of thinking being expressed by the others. We also have to keep in mind the selection bias; most people won't want an on-camera interview about such hot-button political issues. Those who do are going to have very spicy stances that they aren't afraid of admitting. In the last interview Corey even alluded to that by saying "you did say you were fine talking about politics!"

@@LoudWaffle only those who have a spicy take have an incentive to hide it, so the selection bias is in favour of those with spicy takes _not_ wanting to be on camera as much. And still, this was the result. To be sure, the sample size is small, but this video is hardly the only one on the topic.

I heard him say, _ideally_ this would never happen, because it is presumably immoral, and definitely not legitimate, but he feels, accurately I think, that he is in a real war situation in which the niceties of civilized relations have given way to the calculus of strength. Kill or be killed. Attack back or be only helpless victims. In that sense, I have some newfound sympathy for the views of this man. Today, the IDF isn't _trying_ to kill children in Gaza but Hamas deliberately trains children to become combatants and/or martyrs as early as possible. Now doubters have seen videos taken of rocket launch sites and weapons manufacturing less than 5 meters from a classroom, next to a kids Ferris wheel in a park, and tunnels under a child's bed. A woman who said she is eager to have her 17 children and all 65 grandchildren become martyrs. This wasn't a depraved woman who got caught. She was PROUD of her stance and bragging. This is simply because Jews control 1/8 of total Palestine/Levant area and because Israelis have to implement strong security measures to *prevent* her 17 children & 65 grandchildren from killing Jews. That's different. YES, this Holy War is unconventional war.

I agree. I am also an Israeli. I don't think the people in this video represent the majority of the settlers, but I can not also ignore the things they said here which I find very problematic. The whole collective punishment idea is very problematic as it punishes non-involved people. The whole you "did this to me, I will do it to your people" as vengeance is also incredibly problematic as it causes eternal cycle of hatred, fear and loss. I do agree with the second guy in the interview about the proportionality between Palestinian terror vs. Jewish terror. There were by far more terror attacks and hate crimes committed by Palestinians compared to Jewish terror. It doesn't mean I justify Jewish terror but it is important to look at the bigger picture and understand that Palestinian terror is much more prevalent and prominent than violence and terror committed by Jews

@@shirelsloomi8452 Hey there! Just wondering: as an Israeli, how does the average Israeli citizen (i.e. those living in the normal cities like Tel Aviv, Jaffa, etc) feel about settlers? Is there a specific fear or opposition to them? I understand it is more pronounced within what is called the Israeli left. But say someone brings up the topic of settlers-how does the average city Israeli respond?
@shirelsloomi8452
@shirelsloomi8452 11 ай бұрын
Most Israelis DO NOT fear settlers, as settlers do not harm directly Israelis. It is hard to say how the average Israeli feels towards settlers, as there are so many opinions and nuances and also unfortunately lots of division- "them and us" kind of mentality sometimes. I guess most Israelis don't have a problem with settlers until some of them get violent. When they get violent (creating more mess for the IDF to handle by the way) I think that is the point where lots of Israelis will not support them as for lots of Israelis taking the law into the hand is unacceptable and adding fuel to the fire is dangerous.... I think it really depends who you ask- ultra-orthodox, orthodox, conservative, liberal etc.... @gwarchive @@gwarchive

Do they? Considering that for a settler to be there it means kicking Palestinians out of their land and homes... I would see that as unacceptable as a start and then, if I were a Jew living there, I would leave that place and build my home somewhere else where me staying doesn't mean blowing up some childrens' brains. While this is happening, instead, Jewish people keep moving in from other countries even though they already have a life there and they have money and family overthere and they speak English and they could live wherever they want... while the Palestinians that are kicked on the street have nothing left and you take away even a roof and a bed from them. It is sickening...

As a Canadian who went through the public school system I can say I was taught an entirely different reality to what had actually happened to the indigenous people. Only after years of being out of school did I learn the full truth. There is something fundamentally wrong with Israeli education system they all seem to have the same mindset. Quite scary
@vbregier
@vbregier 11 ай бұрын
I think it’s not only the education system, but the whole society, that refuses to face its truths. And in most human societies, when a situation like this exists, people who try to see outside the limits that their community has set are mocked, disregarded, when not completely ostracized. Which makes the biased opinion of the majority even stronger, and the objective truth even harder to find out. I also think the main problem in all this is that most of the people only ever look at their own side of the story, and never even try to understand the other side’s perspective.

I agree the things that happened to the indigenous people of the land is terrible. They got colonized by massive empires and took many of their population into slavery. They were prosecuted in their own land for centuries. Those that were expelled suffered under the hands of the locals for centuries. When they return to their land six massive armies try to destroy them. They try to construct peace deals with the occupiers but they reject it time after time. Finally there are still people in the world who blame them for trying to protect themselves from the evils that are being perpetrated against them . I don't condone the behavior of those kids i condemn it. but don't get confused who are the indigenous people of the land.

Why do you think it’s all Israelis? It’s only the radical right. And he’s interviewing only settlers which are settlers because they are radical in the first place. I’m Israeli and in my opinion it has less to do with education and more to do with seeing all the terror attacks happening so often in Israel proper. And seeing Hamas rallies for years calling for more terror on Israelis. But still, most Israelis are sane and won’t go burn innocent people’s houses. It’s more common with settlers and is based in religious belief. And yes the current government is radical right and religious, and if you know about the protests that took place before Oct 7th, most Israelis hate this government and its religious identity. Bibi has been corrupt for years and is dependent on the religious parties in the Knesset.

As an Israeli, I'm surprised by the logic of the 2nd and last persons. They justified the burning of multiple innocent people's houses because of 1 Palestinian terrorist who murdered Israelis. Most Israelis condemn this.

Anybody can say, even actually, " condemn", as a public relation tool. The real issue is to both prevent and punish these pogroms from happening. It's important to realize that there still haven't been any convictions for the Turmusayya pogrom either. People like that 2nd gentlemen believe in collective punishment but don't seem to understand that arrests and convictions are unilateral. Palestinian terrorists are often acquired and arrested or taken out relatively quickly when they commit terrorist acts, but we saw the IDF go relatively easy on those that were burning homes in Turmusayya. They didn't even actively arrest them, only drove behind them in the town as they went house by house and then let them all flee. Turmusayya had a resident conduct a terrorist attack a few years ago and he was apprehended, arrested, and his home destroyed. His family didn't even support what he did and disagreed with his actions, but they still destroyed their home. This doesn't happen on the other side at all even to those that do commit terror acts. The settlers around Turmusayya have constantly thrown stones at vehicles as well - it all doesn't stem just from one side. There was actually a US convoy in 2015 that was attacked by settlers, and they nearly got into a confrontation with them as they had drawn weapons on them. Both sides need to stop pointing fingers and just control their own but one side is certainly getting the benefit of the doubt with regards to the law.

Eyeopening video, which explains the settlers' mindset in this very sad situation. I long wondered what these people think/ feel about their participation in the colonization. Most, do not even seem to feel anyhow guilty, as they do not need to commit the majority of the atrocities themselves. They might do some minor harassment, and then just keep leveraging the state's force (IDF) to keep their hands and consciousness clean. This quote sums it up perfectly: "If the IDF had reacted with force (blockaded the village, burned the houses and k!lled the Arabs), no one would needed to go into their village". Exactly like German civilians settling on the conquered territories during the II WW. They mostly did not k!ll any Polish, Dutch, or Jewish people in retaliation for resistance actions. They did not need to. They were just calling gest4po officials and the N4zi police/ army hunted, killed, and burnt entire villages remotely connected to the presumedly implicated people. Civilians did not kill personally anyone, so they would not feel any shame, and the state's forces were just enforcing the law against the so-called terror!sts (Poles, Dutch, Jews in this case etc...)

If I was a jew living in Israel all my life, I'd probably have the same thoughts as them. They have vested interests, they are emotionally invested, and they feel the necessity to defend the acts of their govt or in some other cases, their close family/friends. So even if their logic may be flawed (in my own view), I see how they could justify it in their minds. What they fail to see is the perspective of the people they are oppressing.

Settler names that attack and shoot Palestinians ACROSS occupied Palestine: - Iyad al-Halaq (31, autistic Palestinian in Wadi al-Joz shot dead) - Ali Abu Alia (15), Zeid Qaysiyah (17) - Tareq Badwan (25) - Bader Nafle (19) - Nur Shqeir (36) - Ahmed Areiqat (26) - Bilal Saleh (farmer shot by settler) - Israeli forces had killed at least 34 Palestinian children in the West Bank as of August 22 - Israel on Friday said it was opening a military police investigation into the killing of two Palestinians in the West Bank - And so many more.. Also the irony of him saying “Israelis face collective punishment too” and it just being “house arrests” while Palestinians face bombing, shootings, death and having their homes burned or completely demolished as a “collective punishment” and he thinks it’s a valid comparison

The problem is that Muslims don't know how to take the L. Plenty of countries have lost territories over the centuries and had their maps redrawn. Most just accept it and move on. Except for Muslims, who hold a chip on their shoulder for decades. Ask the hypocrites if they think they should give Constantinople back to the Christian Europeans.

An important point that is being missed here is that the settlers are fundamentally in the wrong, because they are occupying Palestinian lands in violation of international law by living in illegal settlements. If they are afraid for their lives in their illegal settlements, they should go live within Israel's proper borders. That would be a different conversation.

6:01 The daily horrors and atrocities that both Palestinians in the West Bank as well as in Gaza are subjected to could be considered terrorism, but because the violence is coming from a state power, it is seen as just, which is why you had to reach into the past to find examples when the forced displacement and random arbitrary killing of civilians are right there.

As an Israeli it saddens me to see some of their responses but I also understand where it comes from because those communities have faced horrible attacks over many decades and have felt the military/government has failed them. Sadly also the language and logic of much of the Arab world is different. We are surrounded by those who have no issue murdering us and even worse see it as their divine purpose. Adversely, I can say my military experience had a strict code of arms, was about putting ourselves at greater risk to preserve innocent/civilians and saw medics even perform life saving first aid against those who attempted to kill them or their team minutes prior
