The last women’s fantasy description of the situation somehow reminded me of the movie/novel “Misery”. They cripple them (the Palestinians) then label them as unable to succeed and they (the occupiers) view themselves as the saviors.

Thanks for this Corey - I sometimes find your interview techniques a little brusque or dismissive, but I learn a lot from watching your videos. It's interesting that almost all the Israelis are very prickly about use of the word "colonialism" but the woman at the end in Ariel really sums up the settler colonialist mindset perfectly: in her view the Palestinians are incapable of ruling themselves, disorder is "their way" and their lives are much better (and wealthier) for being able to live around Israelis. That's a really grotesque opinion - and somehow all the most chilling for being expressed in such a friendly, casual, polite way.

It’s not so much an opinion as an observation. In Israel more than 20% are Arab Israelis. Their standard of living is better, their women are more free, they can vote, the healthcare and social benefit, crime rate is better. It’s not that one group are better humans than another but there are certainly better ideologies and things to concentrate on. In Israel they concentrate on family, community, they reward hard work and innovation. Many Palestinians have been brought up to blame Jews and look for to a time when life will be better once they have eradicated them. I see the same with individuals in Scotland too, some build, some blame. The builders have a better life.

@jamesmaybury7452 I agree. Gaza is a good example. While complaining about no access to water and blaming Israel to ability to shut off their water that Israel has to to supply them because still after all the donations hamas has got from the world after all these years still they havent developed, instead hamas turns the waterpipes that does exists to rockets and blame easily on Israel . While the Hamas leaders are billionares and millioners many people there live poorly especially the ones that dont have a connection to Hamas.

@@anapontopina86 It's interesting you see her this way. I'm not happy about the situation of the Palestinians, but I didn't see her casual approach as creepy/evil. On the other hand, when I see Arabs being interviewed and casually justify terror attacks on civilians, I get the creeps. I think this shows how much our opinions make it harder to have a productive discussion when the situation is so loaded.

I was talking to a french woman who was visiting, and she expressed her pain for Israel. She could not backed up her claims when I asked factual questions, her answer was I don't want to talk about it because I have family there. I'm British and I know my country perpetrated so much suffering on so many people as a colonial power...and I hope Britain will start to make reparations for that. But hearing these people speak is like I imagine British people would have said in a vox pop about Ireland in the early 1900s. It always goes back to the bible though... so it's like "this book, which my ancestors wrote, says that only they have the right to this part of Earth"...

Well, for the Jews it would be the Torah/Talmud. Yes, for the Christians the Bible also says that, because the Old Testament basically contains the Torah and Psalms. But let’s not leave the Muslims out. The Quran and Hadiths have there own viewpoints on the subject. Let’s not forget Hamas calls for the eradication of Israel. They are not just pulling this out of their ***. This has at its source Islamic beliefs. From this perspective it is a spiritual war.

Hmm indeed but that book they quote also made it very clear that the Jews are not permitted to return to the promised land until the second coming so even biblically the position is not legitimate and Orthordox Jews believe that the creation of Israel is antisemitic because Jews are being told that their religion is no longer an indicator of Judaism but rather Nationalism is…because Zionism is a 150 year old political ideailgy created by racist Christian’s, it’s not even Jewish.

In any dispute - you got back to the first cause/ first action. If there was a robbery of precious jewels - and the thief passed the stolen jewels to family, and grandsons, and their grandsons after that…. If the owner finds the jewels and wants them back … the thief’s children don’t automatically own them because they’ve had them for a long time. Even if they had bought the jewels from a thief, does not make the jewels theirs - because they never had legal right to them. In the case of Israel, they have come back to collect and restore what was taken when they were exiled in 70AD … but they have also paid for almost all of the land, purchased by title deeds. That’s would be like paying a thief’s children for your own jewels back.

Syria, Iraq, and what is today Israel and Jordan were occupied between 1917 and 1920. Title transferred to the Mandates (with Arabs in Syria and Iraq, the Jews in Israel and Jordan) beneficiaries (not the British or French.) This was ratified by treaty (Sevres of 1920) League of Nations Covenant, and later ratified again by the UN Charter (article 22.) There was no occupation except for 1949-1967 by Egypt and Jordan. When Israel retook these areas in 1967 the occupation ended. A sovereign state cannot occupy its own land. @@bonsaitomato8290

The only thing the people in the video are uncomfortable with is the way the question is phrased as an attack. The very premise of the question is absurd. It can’t be an occupation if there was no country there before. What kind of an occupation affords an exponential growth of the ‘occupied’? Why are they given seats in the government and on the supreme court? Why can they vote?

Nakba was the result of a war the Arabs started and lost. Shek Jerrah was originally a Jewish neighborhood named Shimon Hazadik. Arabs illegally took over it and rented it out to poorer Arabs. A court went over the documentation proving it belonged to Jews and told the Arabs renting that they had to clear out. This was all done through courts and lawyers. Deir Yassin is the only issue where Israel behaved wrongly and apologized for it to Jordan, the government which ruled that area at the time. Please remember though that this followed multiple cases where Arabs murdered Jews on the way to Jerusalem to deliver food. They killed thousands far more than Jews ever did. Tensions were high and a small group were vindictive. It was horrible. Uk did not give Israel to the Jews. In fact, they gifted their weapons to the Arabs when they abandoned the country. Israelis know their history. Do you know that Arabs have equal rights in Israel? That they have government seats? That there is already a Palestinian country named Jordan?

The best question so far maybe. It's the same on both sides, but the fact is most Israelis were NOT 'exiled' as that one lady said, most came voluntarily to support Zionism. The fact the lady thinks Lebenan and parts of Jordan should be Israeli too shows how brainwashed, uncaring and UNGRATEFUL the arrogant, spoilt neo-bratz are. They're like Americans and rich Europeans, invasive yet thinking they're the good guys. Deluded to the point of psychopathic lack of empathy. That's how I'd pretty much describe the Israeli culture and mindset, as portrayed by this video series.

The UN partitioned the land into a two states. for both the Jews and the Arabs in 1947. The Arabs rejected their half of the partition because they wanted to eradicate Israel. In 1947 India lost land to Pakistan in the two state Partition of India into two separate countries. India is not demanding Pakistan back. Germany lost land to Poland after WW2 never heard of the Germans demanding their land back from Poland. From 4.00 to 5.00 of this the lady Zionist says that Israel has a moral right to and should expand its borders east beyond the West Bank into Jordan, North into Lebanon, East into Gaza and South into Sinai. Pretty much, if the bible mentions the Israelites were there at some time - Israel should reoccupy those areas. She even momentarily considers whether Israel should occupy as far east as Baghdad! On this basis, as my Irish ancestors (a couple of thousand years ago) controlled the Isle of Man, Wales, Scotland and the North of England as far as Hadrians Wall (built by the Roman empire to keep us celts out of England) - I think Ireland has a moral right to reoccupy these areas and we should do it as soon as we find an opportunity /excuse to do it!!!

In the past We blamed the German society for supporting the Nazi regime and we understand that they was living in a state of fear of the oppressive regime, but when we have people claiming living in a "democratic country" and supporting the occupation blindly the way they are doing we start to ask serious question about the ability of this society to observe the reality and to make objective and fair judgements.

The argument of "how long we go back" is a fair argument, but only if there were no ethnic cleansing and replacement of people with another. Because let's be clear. The holy land was jewish before it was arabized, in the same way it was of other, pre-jewish historical people living there before the jews. The difference between imperialism and colonialism may not be clear, but imperialism was basically a people being subject to different empires, and to different extent be culturally affected by it. The caliphates arabized the whole region - think about it whatever you want, but the people that began to speak arabic has the same lineage. Yes, migration occured, as it occurs in any other nation - but the extent of history implies the whole people is still the same, even if some other "blood was mixed in". Some nations have large and other minor migration, but the eventual mixing of this people still gives us the continuum of a people living in a specific place. Israel displaced palestinians - and litterally, imported people from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Middle East... every where (still does it to this day), while displacing, locking out and demolishing palestinian, their homes etc, there is not a single "continuum" of Israelis having great, great, great grandfathers, and their ditos living on those lands! Also most people don't seem to understand what occupation is. Occupation is when a foreign power rules over you/your national resources, without giving you your rights as a citizen under such system. Palestinans w/o israeli citizenship in WB, Gaza and East Jerusalem is native to their lands, are controlled and ruled by Israel (by military rule!), or their sovernity is heavily limited and therefore indirectly controlled/ruled by Israel. Israel don't even need to have annectation or settlement aspirations. If they were to raze down all settlements, expell israeli settlers and time-limit their rule over their palestinian subject to lets say 30 more years, it is still occupation untill the day they leave!

@tylerthomas6932
@tylerthomas6932 3 жыл бұрын
@@inoovator3756 because during Apartheid we had what was called the Group Areas Act of 1950, in which people were ethnically cleansed from areas that were then designated as White Only areas, areas that historically had white minorities. These people were forced to then move to ghettos built by the Apartheid regime that were built strategically to subdue riots and uprisings, they were built with one entrance and exit so that if the police ever needed to stop an uprising they only needed to block one road. Secondly in 1970 we had the Bantu Homelands Citizenship Act, which gave land known as Bantustans, to different ethnic groups, this is the land where they would be governed according to their own tribal legislation, but the lands were just that, land with no infrastructure. So it's either you went to the city to work for minimum wage with little to no rights, or you suffered in poverty in a Bantustan but enjoyed your freedom. It is cognitive dissonance. We all want to feel like we are good people and to be seen in a good light - even if our choices cause suffering of others. I think most of us, particularly in the 'wealthier countries' suffer from this to a more or lesser extent. Our food choices, our use of products that destroy the environment or are made by the exploitation of others, clearing land that needs to be preserved, but is used for housing or unnecessary crops...we know deep down that we are part of the problem but we make excuses and deflect or deny completely that there is a problem.

Here's the real answer: because "occupation" and "occupy" and similar words have formal meanings within International Humanitarian Law, and if the Israeli government admitted to and referred to the West Bank as "occupied", then international law in the form of the Hague Convention 1907 and the Geneva Conventions 1949 would come into play, and Israel would be responsible for exercising the required rights and responsibilities of an "occupier". Although Israeli has claimed to be providing many of the same rights to the Palestinians as the Geneva Conventions require out of the goodness of their hearts, Israel does not, of course, provide ALL the GC-required rights, and so it more convenient to simply insist they are not, strictly speaking, an "occupying power". There are many arguments made for this point of view in various law journals for the past 50+ years. If you want to know more about occupier's responsibilities, you can simply google Geneva Conventions +occupation and you will find lots of info on this.
