Another winner - even with the wonky wheel offset, the casting comes to the forefront with the detailing you added.

The reason that it has those oddly flared wheel arches, is that the casting was originally a Corgi 'Rocket', and a version of the Mk1 Escort Rally car. It had a noticeable difference - it had two bracing struts in front of the windscreen, and came with a set of rally stickers. Corgi discontinued 'Rockets' after a short while, and retooled the models to do away with the detachable plastic chassis. My younger brother used to have a real Mk1 customised to rally specs., bucket seats, aluminium flooring, roll cage, no rear seat, just aluminium decking, lift-off bonnet, fuel cell. The love of his life. Very fond memories of going out in it. He could never resist a touch of the 'loud' pedal when driving. Rude not to, with a car like that. After several years, he sold it, in order to buy an early Granada. Since then, neither of us have seen his white, with black bonnet, Mk1 again. Possibly squirrelled away in a barn somewhere. And your custom? Beautiful, as always. Nice one.

Love the red and white contrast. Another great job. Especially on the front grill/light area. Beautiful. Have you ever thought about trying to faff about with zinc/copper/nickel plating? It works better with the more translucent (redline) paints. But it'll make any paint pop if the the body is good enough to not need a primer layer.
@SidewaysKing755 жыл бұрын
Many thanks as always 😁👍 I haven't tried the plating method, thats not to say I never will though but don't think I'll ever get away from using primer to be honest. I've never done a car that warrants one of the gleaming spectraflame type finishes but may look into it one day 👍🏻

Terrific! Great video on this Corgi Escort Mexico. Really impressive end result considering you didn't do a replica. The Mexico Mk1 is my all time favorite car. For me, they have to have the full Mexico stripes. I nearly owned one once, now, I have to go to the AVO National Day every year to get my 'fix'! The Corgi one looked more authentic than the Hotwheels. I was put off by the Hotwheels's flared arches, they are all wrong!

Thank youas always Lilliana....That's actually my favourite all time car. I've had two in the past, Cosworth s not RS500's, so know them well. 🚗 Thank you very much 😁👍 Ford went through their Beige spell over here too LOL! So we didn't escape it either 😂. Our Mk III's had a great RS Turbo, RS1600i and XR3 all in the range. They were 1.6Ltr CVH Engines with the RS Turbo being you guessed it turbocharged. The swap from Rear wheel drive of the Mk I & II to front for the Mk III and on put some off but the faster ones were, and still are, sought after. Many thanks for the trip down memory lane.

An unusual thing about the MK2 Escort vans was under the MK2 front end furniture was the old MK1 headlamp panel which when done right you could have a sweet sweet MK1 Escort van, one chap I heard put the RS2000 snoot on a MK2 van and really blinged it up with the fandango wheel arches and phat wheels n tyres whilst the rear load area was turned into a sha... er passion parlour and full bling in the front area. The Mexico's were pretty rare, as were Harriers, RS1800 twin cam and I did hear Ford shoved an Essex in a Escort to "Savage" it up, I imagine a 3 litre would have been lethal :P One of my erstwhile boy racer friends had the Chevette with a bored out and tuned 2.0 litre Ford pinto engine in, the obligatory phat wheels in signal red with silver graphics, it wasn't an official HS is it called? Chevette but it was super fast and cornered like it was on rails. He wanted to put an Essex in but his insurance company melted down when he asked about whether they would insure him or not lol
