I had no idea Cornel West was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He just mentioned Marcus Garvey and my grandmother was also born in that part of Oklahoma and her family migrated to Bakersfield, California when she was a child. She told us the story of Marcus Garvey coming to Oklahoma to organize when her father(a great, great man whom I share a birthday with) met him and he(Marcus Garvey) actually named my great aunt on that occasion. My grandmother was most certainly a revolutionary in her own right and never abandoned her principles under any circumstances. Thank you for this! SO much valuable information and perspective. 👏🏼

Sadly he will only be on the ballot in a small handful of states. It is difficult for left wing voices to be heard in the US because our so-called "democracy" is designed to limit anti-corporate rhetoric. It is rigged, essentially. But not to despair because the Green party, which shares an anti-genocide platform will be on ballots all across the nation. It is kind of difficult to admit that being anti-genocide is so rare in US politics when you might imagine that such a position should be the bare minimum for any kind of political legitimacy, but such is the state of democracy in this most peculiar of countries. Definately my vote. Our family was fighting racism since the 50s and we never stopped. Today I feel so disappointed. I notice the powers that be using media have now divided races into neat labeled boxes and has each group fighting each other for their rights when it's just PLAIN HUMAN RIGHTS that belongs to all fellow citizens. Nobody ever called me a Swedish American or told me to learn my roots. So what does that mean? I don't identify with it never been to Sweden, so what is their ANGLE. Does that mean I am just WHITE? NO THANK YOU. Never identified with it, shouted down racists since a school child, both my sister and I, because our dad would quiz us with quotes from Malcolm X. Kids told us we were racists against white. We said no, we just don't like racism. Our friends were everybody, but our very closest friends were black and Native American. When we were 9 and 11, we marched with our Dad in the Seattle sister march while beloved MLK marched on Washington. Later, my Dad hung a loudspeaker on the upstairs eave of our house and BLASTED our neighborhood with "I Have A Dream." I have so many fight stories to tell right up till now at age 69.

I think we are ready here in the states, but we are not aware that there are options. The political system is rigged to suggest that your only choice is between two pro-genocide political parties. Most do not understand that there are third party candidates opposed to genocide. This is how hegemonic power operates. We live in a sort of a "magical" democracy. Aa an American Citizen for over half of a century I have been a Democrat for every election and learnt about the Party Politics and the gross mistakes made in the political arena. I thank God that I was always willing to accept people people of all religions regardless of differences between us. Born in a British Colony and educated through Cambridge and London Universities with a Cosmopolitan population of all people it was a pleasure calling my neighbors as uncle, auntie , grandma and grandpa, because of my parental guidance. His demand for recognition of how racism has so deeply and negatively affected this country, while espousing love and education, makes him the most qualified candidate to be president. Can you imagine what his cabinet would look like? And how he would communicate with the rest of the world?

It is an Empire with over 700 military bases all over the world, there is no need to have them, and the only excuse that is offered is unacceptable. I have noticed all the comments here have no mention of a deity and I do not want to bring that thing in either, but that is the reason that is offered to have this empire. They claim this empire speaks and acts on behalf of this deity, and that is why we are now falling and will be another broken empire trying to think it is the greatest nation in the world. The fantasy of a deity using this empire to teach evil a lesson, WTF? This empire is broken and it keeps funding the war machine to help bring this deity back to a throne it never sat on in the first place.

I won't vote unless Dr. West is on the ballot. If they think he is a spoiler, perhaps they should incorporate some of his platform if they think it is popular enough among their constituency? Oh, that's right, they have donors that would not let them. I appreciate anybody willing to take a chance at losing, and risking what he does, for leading by example of standing up for what you believe and trying to be a voice for those who are unable to be heard. As always, he is eloquent and inspiring. I have never seen that in any politician in my lifetime. I don't know if he does himself a service by always naming all the people who he is inspired by when the majority of his audience does not know those people. Maybe if he uses a quote from the person, and then uses their name, it won't alienate as many people as naming names that he expects people should know and they don't. It is a different hat for politics than professor and his national audience is more ignorant than the people he has been addressing in the universities he has taught. Anybody trying to make it sound like he gets money and spends it frivolously should explain why you never see him in a different outfit and until this bookcase in the background all of these various interviews he has been conducting was in front of a blanket on the wall. If his children had anything bad to say about him, they would have no problem getting their grievances published by either side to discredit this 'spoiler', so I am going to assume they do not have a mumbling word to say, and that article did it's best to dig up dirt on a good guy. Hopefully I can vote Cornell West for U.S. President in Texas! I would vote for him as President OF Texas, too, but one thing at a time.
