Due to a copyright claim, we have had to remove our titles and music, both at the beginning and end of this video. Apologies if it makes the video appear a bit clunky at the beginning.
In our video today we decided to follow a 5.5 mile circular walk starting at Truro Bus Station, taking us along the riverside towards Newham Quay, a place with so much history but so little evidence of it. You really need to keep your eyes peeled to find any scraps of what was once here.
We then pick up the disused Newham Railway line and we were immediately in a very rural setting, in complete contrast to the bustle of the city and industrial area.
Join us as we follow the track towards County Hall, explore an unusual feature of Kenwyn church and nearly get lost in a graveyard. On our return to the city it after closing time, and bathed in warm evening sunlight.
The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on KZbin, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
Frequently asked questions:
What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dog, perhaps you can make up your own name for him.

Wow! My home town has changed so much. I recall when the river ran right up Lemon Quay and the bus station was where Marks & Spencer etc is now. Across the quay (Back Quay) was the the BMC car dealer (HTP Motors) on the corner with Green Street. This is the same HTP as the converted building. My dad's office was 65 Lemon Street and my mum worked for the water company which had their offices in Pydar Street, down a bit from the library. As a kid at Penwether's CS School, we ran cross country along that lane behind County Hall. I remember it being built, too! I miss Truro. How things have changed...

Thank you again for a lovely walk around Truro. In Cape Cod , Massachusetts USA there is a town called Truro where my mother fell in love with the huge sand dune bluffs over looking the sea! A memorable vacation when I was around 7 years old. 🥰😊❤️

Some of the hometown tracks my father and I used to walk with the little family dog when I was a youth have been converted to walking/bike trails. I miss the tracks but welcome the semi-preserved natural setting. I'd like to take a stroll around Truro one day. Lovely place!

Interesting video, and a lovely walk which I've done myself a couple of times. Wondering walking along the old railway, so peaceful yet so close to the centre of Truro, a fabulous city. Many thanks Sarah and Andrew.

A fabulous walk again from you both and again, such interesting facts too 👌. My hubby still works for Cornwall Council, so I'll ask him if he knows about the concrete cancer. Love your book with all those bits of information on the churches 👌. Well done with finding those graves...you are experts at that now I feel 😉. The history on the Cathedral and the previous church was so interesting as well as the first stone layed by the Prince of Wales... typical that it was being hidden by a great big ugly sign 😋. I'm definitely going to be more observant when I go to Truro in future...thanks again for another brilliant walk 😁👏💝😘

What a beautiful walk! Thank you so much for your channel! I’ve been enjoying going through all of your older videos. My husband is going through a major health battle and there are times I’m so stressed out, that I cannot think straight. But, I play one of your videos and my brain calms down. I feel like I’m walking with a couple of fun friends and learning about gorgeous Cornwall! I hope someday I can see it in person. Many many thanks to you both! And your sweet doggies! ❤️

Excited about this walk Truro to is a beautiful city. The rivers joining together is similar to Sacramento California. Does it ever flood in the winter. Doggie really liked this walk.👟👟🐕⛅

Fortunately, Truro does not flood. Not sure if it has in the past, whether there are some flood defences. It is a long way up the river from Falmouth, so probably not threatened with flooding. Really great walk, Sarah :)

Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable walk. It was odd for me the first time visiting the UK to see 200 year-old buildings with neon signs for modern businesses on the ground floor. Yes, the Nottingham Market Square has pizza restaurants and copy centers! Too many years of watching period dramas from BBC (where it was still the Victorian Era or 18th Century in my head) left me a bit in shock. LOL. Love cemeteries, and huzzah for finding the cornerstone.

What an interesting walk on an autumn day. One ''rule'' of walking in cities is always to look up to find hidden things from the past as the building at 3.56 proves. So many interesting features are found just by glancing upwards, or sometimes down to the ground! Cornwall's Richard Trevithick is buried in a cemetery near me & you have to really look for the plaque on the wall as he has no memorial. He was buried in a pauper's grave despite being so prolific back in the day. Such an entertaining vid with both your history talks! I love that old book you take around with you......but I bet it's a bit heavy to carry up and down the hills & steps! Especially on a 5 mile hike! xJx

Another wonderfully humorous and informative tour, your canine friend always seems very interested in your commentary Sarah, maybe he is a reincarnate of one of Andrews relatives, I’m sure if he could speak he would have us in stitches, another thing, I have never known Andrew to be flat out of jokes, and I wouldn’t like to have to cross that first bridge in a high wind with nothing but barbed wire between you and oblivion, plus a graveyard with a sense of humour! Fabulous! I’m never comfortable around gravestones ever since as a young girl I was obliged to wander around them with my parents, and accidentally stepped on one and it collapsed beneath me and I had to be hauled out by my father, I have the occasional nightmare to this day! 😱 thanks again Sarah and Andrew for a lovely tour around Truro with your happy 😃 smiling 😊 faces 🤗 p.s. I was very impressed with the corpse gate!! 😳
