Hey Jeff, I followed this tutorial but its impossible for me to match Dome Radius with Camera Height. If I make them match the 3D object looks of with the enviorment... I have tried with multiple HDRIS :/

Hello Jeff, I'm a fan of your work and I've been following you for a couple years now. I saw this video back when I started at rendering and nowadays I came across seeing this video again, so I would like to know what LUTs do you usually use for your renders. Thank you. If you answer this in the Automotive CGI group that would be great. Matheus Kubota

On my personal renders I tend to bounce around with various LUT's. I like some of the canon versions (some come with Corona). I've purchased sets from places like this: iwltbap.com/ that I'll explore. There's a lot of them to choose from in those packs. At times I'll even mix some of them together. I also like one named "A7s_Cine.cube".

that car paint shader is crazy. If you were to work with vray, would you use car paint mtl, or would you blend few materials by yourself?
@JeffPatton8 жыл бұрын
I like that new stochastic flake map that VRay has for metallic paints. So I'd probably use that in a VRay blend material to build a metallic car paint material. For non-metallic paint, I'd probably just use a single VRay material. I'm looking forward to testing some of their new scanned materials soon. Will be neat to see how they work compared to the blend material setups.

how in your 3dmax user interface changes are appearing simultaneously in your preview render can you tell me which corona option you are using for this pleaseee
@JeffPatton5 жыл бұрын
That's the interactive frame buffer in Corona. I start it around the 40 second mark in the video if you need to see where it is (general settings rollout).

In version 2020 there is no parameter Dome how are you, what should I do?
@JeffPatton3 жыл бұрын
It hasn't been removed. The dome option is still located in the Corona Bitmap loader for 3ds Max. Here's more detailed explanation at configuring the dome mode in Corona Render: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5S9aJ5sd6-XaZI

Hi Mr. Patton; Don't we need a background jpg image anymore? i mean, just a ".hdr" will be enough,right?
@JeffPatton7 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the dome environment could work for some projects, but I don't see it as a replacement for backplates. I personally find the dome environment option useful for previs shots, test renders, and some personal work. However, I still rely on high resolution back plates for my daily work projects (automotive vis). There's a detailed video on the dome environment at the corona youtube page and it lists the pros and cons of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5S9aJ5sd6-XaZI

Can we use this sme techniques into keyshot
@JeffPatton4 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar enough with keyshot to say for certain. Nils Piirma uses keyshot for automotive, I bet he would know. Give him a shout to verify: kzbin.info/door/kiZuNlf_G7aNHZRPUlkBTA

is this is possible with v-ray...?
@JeffPatton8 жыл бұрын
It should be. There's a ground projection option in the VRayHDRI map that flattens the bottom part of the environment map. I just tried it and didn't have much luck with it. It doesn't seem to be working as I'd expect. For example, the radius setting doesn't look like it's scaling the 'dome' effect to me. I'd love to ask and/or report it on their forum but they have done something to the forum & site over there and I can't access it at all now (my address is rejected or blocked). Only way I can get in is through my phone and I don't like typing on my phone. Anyway, you can read more about the ground projection option here: docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3MAX/V-Ray+Bitmap+Texture+%7C+VRayHDRI (maybe you'll have better luck than I did with it) Also, a few years back Vlado posted a small plugin to do the dome mapping and it worked great. Seems like it was posted here: help.chaosgroup.com/vray/misc/ I don't remember if it was compiled for newer versions of 3ds Max or not (I can't access the site anymore).
