Let me tell you as an "essential" worker , John covering this subject makes me feel more sane because the amount of people not taking this seriously only proves how selfish people can be. I am a 26 year old male working at a liquor store in the Dallas area and the way people have been acting about it had made me utterly infuriated. I wipe down my counters and cooler doors and the main entrance and despite that I've had people (customers) make fun of me for it. The worst part is I found out recently that one of my favorite customers passed away due to COVID-19 because her husband came into my store and told me what had happened. Retail in general is a nightmare and yes I want things to go back to normal too but cmon people. WAKE UP.

As a teenager, I hear a lot of my peers saying “I won’t let Corona ruin my summer”, and they continue to go out and meet up with friends. It’s troubling to see how willfully ignorant so many people are, ignoring the facts, thinking “I’m young so if I catch it I’ll be okay” even though that’s not the point. If we don’t want Corona to “ruin our summer”, then let’s make sure it ends during the spring. As Samuel L. Jackson put it best: Stay. The Fuck. Home.

John is so good at this without an audience. When watching his previous episodes, he barely pauses in between jokes then either, sometimes he has to repeat the first few words of his sentence because the audience is too loud, but now it's just me, cackling in the my living room. Props John

I noticed something about this segment. Something makes me feel like this was the angriest we may have ever seen John. Normally, he's definitely upset about whatever infuriating subject he is delving into, but he seems to push the anger for a more satirical humor. This time, it really seemed like he was holding back his anger a bit. Something tells me, that he isn't just furious. He's absolutely livid. Just a theory, and I certainly don't blame him. I'm about there myself as a Michigander who knows too many who buy into those stories.

'Dr' Phil is not even a licensed psychologist since 1989 (seemingly let it lapse, after being reprimanded the previous year), let alone a medical doctor. He got a doctorate originally, so that's how he gets to call himself a Dr. Much like he conveniently never mentions how he was previously married & divorced, to a woman who had a less than flattering description of his behaviour. He was very young, so he can't really be judged on that, but he always has a condescending attitude (and of course is often pretty full of it)

@@yelsewgalt9178 In my country we have free health care, lay off programs being implemented, even for independent workers, social security payments being applied because of the rise in unemployment, places and programs to immediately allocate the homeless and refugees, districts made social support lines, to bring food and pills to those who can't afford it or can't go and fetch it. One of which I'm volunteering in. Behavior of the population apart, America has systemic structural issues, which need to be resolved. And the basis of that solution is a change in consciousness, of the politicians and the people, and the realization that everybody, no matter the race, gender, ethnicity or socioeconomical background, is equal and should have the fundamental human rights to have food, health and a roof. Besides COVID, the global disease of hyperindividualism set us apart, and now, more than ever, we can see the importance of remaining united and care for each other, without having to know why. Being part of the whole humanity should be a reason strong enough for our unity.

@@xRS23x I don't think the US or people in general need as much help as you're saying if we're thrifty (as a small country could be supported like that, but not so easy for a much larger one). So if we cut our needs to the very least and work hard to produce, even for free (as getting a job where I live's not an option), then fewer services are needed. To whom it may concern: I am an E.R. Nurse. My wife is an anesthesiologist. Two of my colleagues, in their mid-30’s and otherwise healthy, are currently in The ICU on ventilators. Both of them are younger and healthier than I am. Everyday, I go to work and walk into an environment that has been vastly changed from it’s previous condintion a month and a half ago. The halls of my institution are thronged with people afflicted with this virus. We do not have the proper equipment necessary to protect ourselves from contracting horrible pathogen ourselves. As a result, I am being asked, even expected, to do things that place my life and the lives of the people that I love at risk. I am tired just typing this. I am desperately tired of trying to communicate the urgency of this situation to people who have no grasp of what is actually transpiring here, yet feel so entirely self-assured in their certainty that ‘it’s just the flu’ or whatever else ignorant opinion they might cleave to. It feels like an empty endeavor, like tragically wasted time and effort, to try and explain what it is factually transpiring here. I want to scream expletives. I want to force these people to walk into work with me, wearing a week old N95 that common sense states should’ve beed discarded after its first use; no gowns to protect my skin, rationing gloves to protect my hands, afraid to eat or drink for twelve and a half hours, teetering from exhaustion, desperately trying to resuscitate your mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daily...every day. At the end of the day I am afraid to touch my wife and she, in turn, after spending the large part of her day placing the breathing tubes into the airways of the infected, is equally terrified of touching me. So, we sleep our scant few nightmare raddled hours in separate beds, restlessly dreaming of going to work and seeing my wife on a gurney. This is my first day off of five workdays in a row. I am going to go out and sit in the sun for a minute. I wish I had the strength to say more, but I am too tired.

Problem is the common enemy is only threatening some of us. All those people in power have access and the funds available to the healthcare they need to stay alive during this pandemic. This problem isn't real TO THEM. They don't care if it hurts the public they are responsible for as long as they can make money from it, or they can win the vote of the people leftover so they can continue to make money from it. They've never cared about us regular people but half of Americans can ignore that because they don't care about anybody but themselves. If people could learn to actually care about their fellow Americans AT LEAST then we wouldn't allow these people to remain in power because every single thing they do is designed to get them as much money and power as possible.

But it's not even that, most smokers will step outside/away from people to have a cigarette even of they're inconsiderate/obnoxious it's obvious when someone is smoking and at worst you can step away. This is people saying they don't want to deal with minor inconveniences for the safety of the general public and would rather let those that are at risk die than deal with them. This is the anti-vaccine movement part 2 with a vengeance, because this disease is not preventable, but it is manageable and our history and knowledge shows us how, people just need to get on board and do their part.

@@kayem3824 oh really? Do you have sources to cite for this? Because just a week ago WHO stated there was no evidence of immunity in those that have recovered, not to mention they can still spread it regardless. Many people being largely asymptomatic is a well known fact and it's not actually a good thing, 80% have little to no symptoms, but 20% will and this is a very serious problem, that's 1 in 5 people roughly 1 person from every household. If people aren't distancing themselves then a very large number will end up at the hospital simultaneously and they have limited resources, that means they will have to prioritize care, that means doctors have to start making calls of who to save and who to forsake. If we flatten the curve and spread this out that doesn't have to happen, those people don't have to die, but people need to stay home, stay away from each other and ride this shit storm out.

it has always been weird. Read up on the dark ages... People are clowns and easily manipulated. A small example: you invaded Afghanistan, because Bin Laden - a Saudi, committed crimes while hiding in the mountains there. US intelligence found out Saudi Arabia funded 9-11, but obscured it. The conspiracy theories around it are somewhat exaggerated, but its fishy all 'round. Iraq, similar story. Vietnam and nearly every intervention in between as well. Yet the US always remains the greatest nation in the world: Americans don't want to know about how they are getting duped. People in general won't, but the US is a master in such deceit. Just ask the NSA... At any rate, the US has been kooky for all of its existence. Apparently it takes losing thousands of lives and billions of dollars in a futile war against Iran (which used to be Persia - might be worth reading up on that too...) an orange and a pandemic event to become slightly aware of how you're getting screwed around. And still, it's a British dude that makes you aware of the clusterfucks you obliviously have allowed to be...

Furthermore, the observed infections come with a delay from the transmission. It takes maybe a week to get sick, get tested and into the statistics. This despite the fact that those measures clearly have an effect on the spread of the virus.

Right! In addition good public transit can save people a huge amount of money, compared to the insurance, fuel, maintanence, and cost of depreciation imposed by our automobile dependence. Also, it’s better for the environment if our built environment prioritizes walking, cycling and transit over cars. That requires more missing middle housing and generally increased density near transit lines.

George Kafiridis oh dear, you've been drinking too much of that red kool-aid....put down your cup and listen to reason for a second: yes, the flu alone kills thousands of people every year. Let's say 60,000 in one flu season. Covid-19 had killed 54,000 people in roughly 3 months and this virus is still going strong. It will continue and at the cuuent rate when we finally get to the fall, I guess another 30,000 people will die so that's 84,000. We are then going to have to deal with BOTH. On already exhausted health Care workes. As well as every other thing that kills people every year!! What about our hospitals and horrid healthcare system?! Fucking fuck why can't you see that this is about more than life and death? There are only so many doctors and nurses and they are getting sick too. Ah, the "Right to Freedom". I literally can't comprehend how people think being free means you have no responsibilities. To be free means to base your decisions on the responsibility for yourself, your social interactions and society. In these hard times, the people who are free are the ones responsible enough to realize that staying home and protecting the vulnerable is something they need to do and not something that was forced by the government, etc.

The problem is weighing the harmful economic effects resulting from these government lockdown policies which is strongly interconnected with health. Any epidemiologist will tell you about the social determinants of health and if government action destroys an economy and millions go on unemployment it would translate into worse health outcomes (suicide, substance abuse, domestic violence, cancellation of procedures for chronic diseases etc.). With more studies testing antibodies for COVID coming out it looks like the mortality rate (case fatality rate) is 0.5% (Search for Santa Clara and Chelsea, Massachusetts studies) which doesn't justify taking peoples rights away in my opinion. Sweden, Japan, S.Korea are also good examples of countries that didn't respond with draconian measures which we can compare to later when we get more data. Do you believe in any line beyond which the government has gone too far in taking away civil liberties? To what extent do you care about people's freedoms and do you not see this as a significant moral issue? I understand we want to care for the elderly and we can certainly have some measures in place to protect them but when does this go too far or how many deaths is 'too much', bearing in mind that we live in a world of risks with diseases like influenza every year which can kill up to 500,000 world wide such as in the severe 2009 swine flu pandemic (look up the stats on that pandemic). Should we shut down the economy and peoples rights every time something like this happens?

@@Medhead101 Japan has admited to doing a poor job and Sweden has admited to failing to the elderly as the soft measures turned homes into morgues with waiting rooms. S. Korea's approach worked only because they started early and did it properly, with years of preparation for the next epidemic after MERS. The main issue with the U.S.'s handling is that "catching up" needs measures far more strict than doing things right, or at least trying from the get go.
