I'm still not sure why we have a charity giving free meals to NHS workers. NHS workers are still at work getting paid full wages even if they are self isolating or at home ill. The correct answer is “indefinitely” using the power of deficit spending. There are two problems this exposes, one practical, and one sociopolitical. The practical problem is, SOME essential goods and services, powered by un-quarantined human labor, must continue: food production and distribution, power creation, medical services, information gathering and dissemination, infrastructure maintenance. But by reducing our dumb, redundant, and nonessential current consumption patterns, we can continue with a reduced workforce for exponentially longer than we could under our current consumption patterns… and live fairly luxuriously, actually. And then there’s automation, which is coming one way or the other - and whether it leads to a workers’ paradise, or else to a dystopian future of one unemployed starving majority class and one elite minority class living in a walled paradise behind armed checkpoints depends on how much stomach each side has for asserting itself in the coming years. The sociopolitical problem is, returning to the present, that people will quickly wise up to how nonsensical the pyramid-structure of our current economy is, and probably won’t agree to continue having hedge funds, stock brokerages, private investment firms, parasitical trifle-peddlers, and assorted robber barons at the top of that pyramid - and people wising up to, and then protesting or refusing, the current power arrangement is something the current power brokers, the families Koch, Coors, Mercer, Bradley, Olin, Scaife, Wilks, Murdoch, Adelson, et al, won’t stand for. Historically, after previous pandemics and with the labor force suddenly in danger of gaining the upper hand, what the elites have done is pass laws to freeze wages at pre-pandemic levels, and employ the military to force people to continue laboring at stupid jobs for miserably low wages, and to continue laboring at essential jobs for even miserably lower wages. In the near future, this history repeating itself seems like a real possibility. And of course billionaires will want to tax personal savings… but only of those who have six figures or less in the bank: to “stimulate the economy,” of course. The point will be to keep the little guys little, and the big guys… well, bigger, probably. But what happens really is up to us. And if you’re a paid armed thug, you don’t need to follow orders and commit crimes against humanity. In theory, at least, we’re all in this together.

Some thoughtful and intelligent comments here. All the evidence(and most of it is hidden) is that this whole scenario, is, to a greater or lesser degree, all pre-planned. This only makes sense when you take into account the new technology being developed by Bill Gates et al. This new society will be radically different to anything civilisation had seem in millennia, due to the advanced technology being developed; a technocracy if you will(nanobiological-warfare and surveillance etc). The first step is to have a catastrophic event happen(virus) Then oppress and subjugate tbe entire population-a feat accomplished so well, Stalin would be proud(reaction). Finally after prolonged fear-mongering, and restriction, give the masses something to help fight the fake problem, like a vaccine(see ID 2020, Bill Gates-)(solution). As our Mainstream media are well and truly bought and paid, as are our medical regulatory bodies here in the UK(both receiving impressive amounts of ££££££ From Mr Gates). This final step will be as easy to accomplish as taking candy from a baby. They nefarious effects of the vaccine, and the degree of benevolence/malevolence of the billionaire are unknown factors here, however, Bill Gates' track record of vaccinations are dubious at best. His father's lifelong interest in eugenics is also worrysome.

Sine Metu that would mean products being more expensive to produce and therefore buy, this is why manufacturing went out there to start with lower costs. In order for us to really kick start our manufacturing again in the broader sense would mean the cost of stuff increasing and profit margins reducing. And people can’t buy products that cost more because they’re made in the UK without their own wages increasing. So no matter what it would mean the lowest earners and therefore everyone above them wages increasing and this knock on effect would mean company and shareholder profits would go down, which no Tory government would allow.

@@arghjayem Having a factory in let's say a place like Wakefield is far cheaper now than Wuhan. The factory itself creates jobs and then more jobs at other factories and other jobs maintenance jobs as the facility needs electricians and plumbers for example and then other businesses like sandwich shops and cornershops to cafes for the workforce. It is far more cheaper and desirable now as opposed to being reliant upon imports and having trillions of pounds worth of economic contraction and rising unemployment and a braindrain on skills and other health problems like depression and obesity etc.

The UK government needs to totally 're evaluate the Uks structure and industries. This combined with brexit is our chance to move forward with a new beginning, that hasn't happened since the industrial revolution. Life has not only changed but needs to change, along with attitude towards teaching, taxation and other aspects of UK lifestyle that will take us forward rather than it simply evolving like it has done. People are working from home, encourage more of that where possible and keep going what there is at present. Rate able taxes are going to have to fall both for business and households alike. Encourage more and provide money for technology start ups. Many are likely to lose their jobs and now a time to change careers or start a business . Out of every tragedy their comes a silver lining. Yes it is going to take time, but we are not alone, most of the world is in the same boat. The faster and more futuristic the Uks outlook the better its future Is going to be competing against the rest of the world.

Nhs workers I respected. There diligence and dedication to the sick was very admiral, but since the virus broke out, they have emptied the hospitals and not taking any new patients for the general illnesses and accidents. They seem to be doing less now, than before, yet they accept the applause for their reduced efforts. I cant respect that. They are important and I get that, however If I was a nurse I wouldn't like to be pulled from my vital role for P.R. work. Just so people can feel good about themselves.
