Correct way to install Dee Zee tailgate assist - No cinching of the cable - Ram 1500

I installed on my 4th gen and cable keeps getting hung in between shock and truck. They give a piece of plastic to clamp on cable to supposedly keep it from happening but doesn’t help. Bout ready to uninstall mine
