It's not a segment. It's a separate show nominated in the short form category at the Emmy's. None of what you see above actually takes place on the show. So unlike many late night shows he's not just taking something that happened on the show and clipping it out for KZbin. He's not taking something hilarious that got shortened for time on the Late Night show and showing a few extra minutes, this is a WHOLE OTHER SHOW. I guess the closest analogy to something we've seen before might be a spin-off since it references things that happen on the originating show.

Ok! I have heard the expression, “ They died laughing” and I thought that was always figurative. But I am now beginning to believe that it was a group of people who had just watched you, your writers, and your crew, finishing an episode of Corrections!!! You may wind up winning the Emmy, but you have lost every chance you might have had to returning to the studio audience format! This present format cannot be lost to humanity! You are all sentenced till the end of Time to performing as is to keep the rest of us sane!!

"Buddy, buddy, buddy, buddy." Wasn't that from Buck Rodgers in the 23rd Century?? I don't think it was Battlestar Galactica.
@JK_Clark3 жыл бұрын
It was "Biddy, biddy, biddy, biddy" from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Mel Blanc did the voice for the majority of the 2 seasons but had to take 7/8 episodes off due to an illness, iirc.

Twiki (from Buck Rogers if you haven't realized that yet), was portrayed by four actors. While it's not uncommon for there to be a separate voice and body actor for on screen robots, Twiki had two voice actors and two body actors. Originally voiced by Warner Brothers legend Mel Blanc, he fell seriously ill at the start of the second season and was replaced for five episodes by Bob Elyea. The little person inside the Twiki suit was usually Felix Sella, but was played by Patty Maloney in three. Sella did play a Cylon robot (Lucifer) in ten episodes of Battle Star. Maloney also played Chewbacca's son Lumpy in the infamous Star Wars Holiday special.

Okay, so the Latin on that card is a hot mess. What you have says "Do Not Act with the Numbnesses of Warmth" (yes, plural "numbnesses"). And that's being generous; that Latin is really Google Translate levels of bad. What you're looking for is going to be something closer to the following. I'm giving multiple options because, as with any language, there's more than one way to skin a cat. 1: _nōlī imitārī segnitiam (illam)_ OR _nōlīte imitārī segnitiam (illam)_ - The latter option is plural. 2: _nē segnitiam (illam) imitātus sīs_ OR _nē segnitiam (illam) imitātī sītis_ - Again, the latter is plural. 3: _cavē segnitiam (illam) imitēris_ OR _cavēte segnitiam (illam) imitēmini_ - Same deal. Option #1 is the most common and most formal. Option #2 is more casual; not discourteous, but more peremptory. Option #3 is more of a "make sure you don't" feeling. The parenthetical _illam_ can be used to make it more clear that _segnitia_ in this case is Sloth, not sloth; it suggests a particular case (i.e., a person). It is, however, optional. I'm open to thoughts from other professional Latinists on the best way to translate this. There are, I'm sure, alternatives that would work equally well, and perhaps some improvements I hadn't thought of.

Right on, fellow jackal! The sentence on the card was definitely translated via Google 😅, given the use of _facere_ rather than _imitare_ -- i.e. _do_ Sloth rather than _imitate_ Sloth, which is the proper way of phrasing it in English, but not in Latin (or any Romance language that I know of, actually).

I’m not sure Torporibus is a good translation for Sloth, Seth. It’s the Latin word for numbness. Besides, ‘sloth’ is from the Middle English word ‘slawthe’, from Old English ‘Slaewth’, meaning slow. Since the character in Goonies was considered ‘slow’ at the time, it stands to reason he was named Sloth for that reason.
