Seth Meyers takes a moment to address some of the errors from this week of Late Night, like mispronouncing "substantive" before taking a moment to rant about Ben & Jerry’s not giving Late Night its own flavor.

This is my favorite bit. I feel like Seth is a teacher on a Friday that is passing out corrected tests and talking about the classes mistakes and clarifying each one. I'm here a year later and can 100% agree with this. It is become more and more true with the actual show itself, so much so that I can't tell the difference between watching corrections and the actual show. I remember being worried about the audience coming back because I thought they might tighten down the format a bit, but NOPE they just keep on trucking, even if the audience doesn't like something he then spends a minute trying to get win the crowd over. It is amazing!

I've noticed that people all over (particularly white people, including me despite trying to stop myself lol) tend to put an 's after most business names, especially grocery stores or other big stores, when an S or a 's isn't already there. Like for King Soopers, we say it normally, but when I lived near a store called simply Mercado, all the people in our apartment who were any kind of nonwhite called it "the Mercado" (whether they were Spanish speakers or not), and all the white people called it "Mercado's" lol. After noticing the trend there it's been obvious to me all over in the years since. I think it's just embedded in cultural language roots.

@@blindsightedkill 65 here. I've never gotten this thing about the artificial name created for the decades you were born in. (Remember - if you're old enough - the shock when the Woodstock generation became greedy capitalist vultures?). Millenials don't own the "mainstream = over" equation. My dad driving us to school with the radio on, started singing along to Hey Jude and we were suddenly done with the Beatles. I think it's just a perennial truth that youth is self-oriented and callow. Yes, occasionally life events change that, (surviving cancer, WWII, prison) most often not. Probably you feel this does not pertain to your point however. Just sayin'... How do these names help, when every single one of us eventually goes through all these same stages?

@@markymarksthirdnipple8305 I 1000000000% agree, and in any other context I'd be backing you up. I'm a former grammar nazi and now *really* into linguistic non-judgmentalism and the issue of literacy privilege/how language precision is abused as an oppression tool. However, this segment specifically rides on pedantry, and therefore I'd argue this is a special case where this comment counts as a more meta-level participation-oriented tongue-in-cheek contribution, rather than really sincerely perpetuating the pedantic paradigm.

I'm going back and watching all the episodes of Corrections in April 2024, including the couple of dozen or so that I originally missed. I'm a bit taken aback to hear Shoemaker's voice in this one. I watched many clips of Surprise Inspection and episodes of Corrections thinking that Shoemaker was a member of Seth's writing team who was fictional, which was why he was never shown or pictured during Surprise Inspection. That piece of what I thought was part of the lore of the show added humor whenever Seth mentioned him. Only recently did I realize that he might actually be a real person, but this episode has settled the question. Shoemaker was kind of like Snuffleupagus for me!
