Alright, #JackalFriends, I say we try and help each other out with possible explanations about corrections that don't sound completely insane. I'll try first, "Hey so that old guy from SNL's Weekend Update has a TV show and makes all these tiny insignificant mistakes like other talk show hosts. But here'sthe thing, this dude reads KZbin comments and started trying to "fix" everything he gets wrong in the show by filming a separate KZbin video. Which of course invited more people to critique that video as well. So now this old dude just lost his mind going down the rabbit hole and does like a 20-minute improv set, "correcting" his behavior with inside jokes about his staff, knitters, McDonald's mascots, and lego bricks. You should watch it, he's ridiculously funny. I love laughing at him."

Methinks Ezra Pound was a buddy of James Joyce's, and if so, I'm thinking J.J. might've been one of the more normal people in their circle of friends. (Also, to get *A LOT* in darker thicker writing, you need a space between your second * and the punctuation after it.)

@@chonqmonk I mean, my basic rule is if you ever find the "normal" one in a group of artist friends then: 1. Hey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a critic/reviewer/producer/publisher/editor! At the very least it's nice to have someone who lives long enoto promote you and your friends work! 2. Don't. Look. Any. Deeper. (Also, I did not know that, so thank you for the hint! It doesn't seem to actually make it bolder on the phone, unfortunately, but now I know for the future.)

Birds "B" and "P" sounds: The way birds make sounds is different to how mammals make sounds - instead of one set of vocal chords near the top of the throat (the larynx), they have a pair of a different kind of vocal organ nearer their lungs (the syrinx). In birds that are good at mimicking, they can use this pair to make 2 different sounds at the same time, and because their vocal system works differently, they can make different sounds to what our vocal chords can. This lets them make sounds that sound like 'b' and 'p' without lips.

Let's hope they issue a correction and credit you for it. I can't believe they would take non-ornithologist jackals at their word on bird phonetics! On this topic if anyone's interested in an early attempt at categorization into vowels, explosives, and fricatives, check out the paper titled "The Phonetics of Bird-Sound" by Richard Hunt (1923).

I sometimes listen to comedy videos in the background, though usually I try to keep an eye on Corrections so as not to miss visual gags, but I managed to get 1.32 into this episode without looking up, so I didn't see what you were wearing until the moment the crew laughed knowingly at the mention of costumes. I looked up after that laugh because it reminded me of the laughs when you wore the sweater and the pizza hat merch. I think it's a testament to the intimate nature of Corrections that those kinds of subtlety are noticeable, and I do think that it was the funniest and most satisfying way to receive this joke.

Correction to your correction. An Orca IS a whale! It belongs to the parvorder Toothed whales - as do dolphins. The Cetacea is collective name for all whales, both Toothed and Baleen. (I only know this because I was about to correct you on calling the Orca a whale, but doublechecked so as not embarass myself - as some other jackal clearly did)
@SouthCountyGal

Yes, a toothed whale. :-) In my misspent youth I worked in whaling museums, and I had to know that sort of thing. I felt compelled to correct that Correction out loud, so now my cats are also secure in the knowledge that orcas are both dolphins and whales; the former classification being a subset of the latter. However, they also heard the bit about the orcas' unspecified murder victims, and now they won't come out from under the couch in case the tide rises and the toothed dolphin-whales come looking for fresh meat. Incidentally, in the logs of late 19th-century whaling ships orcas are referred to as Grampus. Which could open up a whole new set of animal jokes if anyone actually cared what a bunch of grubby sailors nicknamed whales 100 years ago.
