I do exactly what Sam said here. I generate songs with AI with the rhythm, genre, and lyrics that I personally want to hear, and I make them for myself, and I really like the result. But to say that I am an artist or a musician or whatever: that’s a huge absurdity! Giving instructions to an AI to make something for you, in terms of authorship of the result, is the same as giving instructions to a human to do something for you. You are not the creator if you didn’t create the work. I repeat: giving instructions is not the same as creating. Telling a bricklayer to lay bricks doesn’t make you the builder of the house, you didn’t build the house: you told someone else to build it. I think the same applies to generative AIs. You are not the creator of anything unless you do it. Telling someone else to write a book for you doesn’t make you a writer. And I’m not anti-AI, in fact, I love using AI, but I don’t consider myself an artist just because I tell an AI to create an illustration of Wren riding a dragon while fighting with a render that threatens to collapse the GPU. I love you guys! And I wish you a SUCCESSFUL 2025!

Very sobering video, for sure. Outside the sheer destruction of neighborhoods, one part that stuck out to me was when he found some key rings, and some of the keys had completely melted. I did not think a natural fire would reach such intense temperatures

Regarding the AI vs. art topic, I think I have a good comparison. I know a person who was studying art. When they had a composition excercise, she was on her way to getting full marks, until she admitted she just physically dropped the pieces on the backdrop and fastened them where they fell. She ended up receiving zero marks, due to not making any decisions on the art-piece she made.

If your art is “upload other people’s art, train Chat LLMs to sort “keywords” to store a database of stolen art, to then use when prompted for “cyber waifu babes,” and pull shapes colors and whole-cloth elements from those pictures, into a NEW picture,” That’s not art. That’s just theft. Even a collage requires WORK. Asking a chatbot to “organize your prompt into keywords, and steal those” does not.

@@KingCeryn I don’t disagree on that, but I get that there is the whole ”AI is just one more tool” argument also, and certainly it can be used like that. In those use cases there needs to be some creative effort made. E.g. the anime rock-paper-scissors 2, where they trained the model on an artstyle drawn by an artist to specifically be used in that project. If there’s only a prompt, and whatever the machine spits out is the end result, there is no real creative effort, hence the anecdote of dropping the pieces on the canvas. Something at least semi-random happened, and that was that. Circling back to what I believe Sam was trying to convey, if there is no effort made, and the work received is to its core only derivative, why would you not do the prompts and invoke the randomness (or theft) yourself, rather than pay someone else.
@KingCeryn
@KingCeryn 8 күн бұрын
@ no. There is no argument for “it’s just a tool.” Using ChatGPT to learn skills? Sure. That’s a tool. Typing WORDS into a box, which then gets formatted into KEYWORDS, which are then used to reference STOLEN ARTWORK, to create a new simulacra assembled from pieces of those stolen images- whether it’s the background, foreground, color or “style- Is not “just another tool.” It’s theft. Period.

Sam said album art isn't the art so it's okay but how deep can you reduce it? Is writing the lyrics the art, or is playing the instruments the art, do I have to remix or remaster the AI song to be art? Is sampling someone else music art with or without permission okay? How much does someone have to manipulate the AI output before it becomes transformative and make its way to Spotify? Suno v4 is so good that I unironically make music with it that I enjoy and will listen to instead of Spotify. My friends and I all make songs with it and send them to each other and adding them to our playlists. The only downside with AI music right now IMO is that I cannot add the songs to my spotify playlist where the rest of the music I listen to lives. I still love artists and listen to them on Spotify but sometimes I (someone with no musical talent) just want to write some lyrics about how I am feeling that day, chorus/verse/entire song, and vibe to it. I do not think I am a 'musical artist' when I use suno, but to say there is no art that goes into writing the lyrics is a bit gatekeepy. Sidenote: Using Suno I made a lead opera singer and an entire choir of people sing about the 'male member' and a stadium of people clap every time the singer takes a breath. It rivals Rob Cantor & Shia LaBeouf in absurdity and made me laugh just as hard as when I watched their video 10 years ago. I assure you I would never in my lifetime have had the time, money, or resources to bring that satirical vision to life with real people. An AI song made me feel a more intense emotion than most songs by real artists and I think that is pretty dang cool. - Tristan

Drone pilot here! Just copying some key points from DJI's blog post regarding their removal of the geofencing system. "The GEO system has also not been removed; warning zones and in-app alerts remain in place to continue educating pilots on safe flight operations." "...previous "No Fly Zones" (NFZs) often placed an unnecessary burden on operators... they were still required to submit an application to DJI and wait for manual review and an unlocking license. This process could result in missed opportunities... unnecessary waiting times. This was especially challenging for commercial operators, drone businesses - and most critically - public safety agencies performing lifesaving work" "Previously, the global geofencing system relied on ICAO Annex 14 configurations for airspace around airports, which did not always align with official FAA data. This mismatch caused confusion... By displaying official FAA data, this update ensures operators can view airspace as the FAA intends, clearly understanding where they can and cannot fly."

How many instances of these drones being used by Chinese students have been caught spying on U.S military infrastructure, again? Such drones would normally be geo-fenced from such locations.....It's almost like they get incentivised/threatened by China's government into doing so while abroad. (edit: Also, companies in China don't have any recourse against the government telling them to do anything it asks....who owns DJI again....)

(looks like my original comment disappeared...) The short of it was it is no coincidence that those who have been caught flying over military structures tend to be flying DJI drones and being citizens of a certain authoritarian regime. They tend to be coerced/incentivised in some way for why they take the risk.

Niko kinda avoided the a.i. question here. He seems to kinda have an agenda about a.i. and ignores what they are really trying to get at here. Just because it's good and took time doesn't make it ethical. And spending some hours to get good prompts and doing some extra editing on an a.i. image still isn't the same as an artist who has spent like decades of their life developing a style or practice.

aside from the fact that the companies are making money off of stolen art since they have to fill the database with it. I was okay with the Ai stuff when it was about deepfakes that they used their own pictures on and maybe a movie with people that already got paid but companies are taking stuff from all over the place without giving the people that make the whole LLM thing possible in the first place not even a single penny. This whole thing is basically the wild west of we haven't gotten to the point at which we regulate capitalists doing capitalists things and laws that have to exist aren't in place yet because the government doesn't understand it and the average joe doesn't understand it and just thinks "robot go bleep bloop and picture happens" instead of "algorithm goes through a load of yes and no questions with set definitions and basically creates a collage with comparisons (basically taking the info and definitions and applying them to a collage) to the database which is full of art that people worked countless of hours on just for some 14 year old who listens to tech bros say that they created it."

regarding AI music: it's funny that now we'll need to train AI to recognize AI music so it could be banned from various platforms like Spotify. Then there is even funnier idea of songs being flagged incorrectly "your music is to much like AI generation, go be more creative" xD

Thing is, the majority of drone owners live in more open areas, and a lot of us have neighbours with private airfields which are still registered as restricted airspace even if they barely use them, i got drone for security purposes on my farm and my entire farms airspace is classified as restricted because of my neighbours airfield. If i wasnt able to unfence my drone i wouldnt have been able to use the drone i bought for its purpose

A.I. Art vs Human Art I think boils down to what you think art is supposed to be. Is it just a distraction that looks or sounds nice or is it a culmination of skill, talent, and human expression? A lot of people listening to this podcast are probably biased towards the latter. You want to pay $1000 for a piece of art. Do you pay someone for their skills, craftmanship, and human experience that in return will produce a good product, or do you pay for someone to type a paragraph the size of this comment into a program and click a single button for a product. Personally, I would rather pay for someone's honed craft and unique worldview

The definition of what is considered art is not wether or not you can copyright it. If you want to argue about commercialism, capitalism and ethics, then it would likely be better to have to look at working conditions first, not consumers. There is a long history of auto-generated art, generative art, oulipo, Kinetic art, processual and planned composition art and music that is entirely legitimate, experimental and artful. And that was from before modern computing. It's AI that is the problem in how it changes working conditions for creatives, and later on changes what is considered creativity because it lowers the bar.

AI music is disgusting the way it sounds to my ear is so horrendous, I cannot stand it, it is Vile, same goes for basically all AI slop that being said when it's being used to expand what is possible, I find it fascinating I think the key difference may be whether it is being used to impersonate humanity as some Grotesque homunculi or if it's just being used as the Ai that it is. kind of like how I hate fake leather or vinyl wood patterns on chipboard, why can't we just represent things for what they are

Saying that someone who is basically "good" at doing AI image generation, and able to get what they want by being good with the AI tool is "creating art" is crap imo, if I spend like 2 weeks animating a fight between two characters I modelled, and someone else just generates a video that kinda looks the similar they are not an artist, they are not a 3D modeler, try are not a animator.. they did not create art, or create an animation..no matter how good they are at prompting using the till and writing good prompts.. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Giving a little on ramp like that for people not in the industry or not as hip is really great for those of us that are curious about it. But you all went on for like 15 minutes about 2 shows I have never heard of before and gave zero context for. Would have been great if you mentioned anything about the plot, the talent, or even how long it's been out. 🤷‍♂️
