I’ve heard before from numerous tubers that installing the radiator at front for cool air intake with the input/output tubes mounted at the top is where the coil whine from the pump comes from. If the tubes are located at the bottom of the rad (which I might add) is sometimes hard to do if not impossible in some pc cases that the coil whine in the pump goes away after a few hours/days of running. It has to do with the air naturally in the closed loop system that can find its way through the pump head made possible by having the tubes up top of the rad. Which also can shorten the life of the pump. Say the pump lasts 5 years or so, if the tubes are at the top grabbing air it could shorten life to say 4 years. Top mount (which is where I mounted mine) is supposed to be ok. And tubes at bottom of front mount setup is ok. Tubes at top front mounted is STILL ok but possible whine and possible life shortening. Sorry that was a mouthful 🍻

I have the H15i Platinium. The pump whine is unacceptable on Balanced/Extreme but OK (still just audible) on Quiet. I understand it's the CoolIt pump vs Asetek used on older models. It's been pain to mix and match with another 2xML140 fan pack, although I managed it. It's gone wrong with the pump housing losing RGB/pump speed control from iCue so is stuck on the hardware settings. If I plug in elsewhere and force a firmware re-flash, it's good for a couple of days. Thinking of getting it swapped for a new one, selling the new one and buying one of these new H150i's. At least I could more easily control the RGB stuff ... If I didn't already have Corsair RGB keyboard, mouse and RAM, I'd think about dumping Corsair altogether TBH as this is my second H115i - first had unacceptable pump noise.
@AnarexicSumo2 жыл бұрын
If you can hear it whining that means there's air in the pump. Either it's defective or installed incorrectly with the pump at a high point.
@Retset2 жыл бұрын
@@AnarexicSumo @AnarexicSumo It was installed correctly but I could hear the pump. Not at all loud but, unlike fan noise, it was at a frequency which I found really annoying. However, on Quiet, I could barely hear it so was very happy with the H115i Plat. However, when the LED part went faulty (the lights went all yellowy), I returned it and bought the new Cappelix version. The RGB was great but there was no option to turn down the pump. I suffered one day of that 'mosquito' like pump noise drilling into my skull (not loud, just annoying) and asked if I could RMA due unacceptable pump noise. They said yes and I refitted my Noctua DH15 Black. It looks decent in the case, albeit not as nice as a lit up CPU block. It works perfectly and is not annoying. I love the idea of an AIO but am obviously one of those people who is susceptible to the noise of a pump spinning, even though it is a quiet noise. Perhaps if I invested in a loop with a D5, I'd be OK but I only run a gently overclocked 10600K so the Noctua is more than up to it.

Platinum RGB: CoolIT pump, RGB ML fans with basic 4 LED RGB. available in 240/280. released in 2018 Q4, kinda outdated, won't recommend anymore. Platinum RGB SE: completely identical to the Platinum RGB but its white and only available in 240. your only choice if you NEED a white cooler, performs well. iCUE RGB Pro XT: identical to the pro RGB but with CoolIT pump, more RGB on the pump, better performance and better ML fans (not RGB fans tho). released in 2020 Q1, still relevant. iCUE Elite Capellix: CoolIT pump, RGB ML fans with 8 LED RGB (MUCH better than 4, belive me). available in 240/280/360. released in 2020 Q3, corsair latest high end liquid coolers. all of the above support the iCUE software, despite only the XT and elite having iCUE in their names (all of them need to be connected to a corsair fan controller to be supported by iCUE software tho) none of the above come with a controller with the exception of the elite, it comes with the all-new commander core. overall, I finally can buy a corsair liquid cooler without compromising on RGB real estate.

My only complaint comes from the issue I had mounting it on an am4 motherboard. it doesn't come with a back bracket for am4 systems and just tells you to use the stock one that came with the motherboard. Ofcourse I didn't have the og one and the one I had didn't allow the standups to come out enough. I actually ended up having to use the standups that it came with for the Intel installation which then made me incredibly nervous since I couldn't see if it was making good contact to the cpu. Luckily it was and it works, but corsair really should include a spare backing for am4 as well. That would have saved me sssooo much time.

Question, say I have 7 of these fans (3 ML, 4 LL.). I have the Commander Core include with the cooler, with a maximum of 6 fan headers. If I were to plug in that last extra single fan directly into my motherboard, would everything still work without a hitch? ICUE would have no problem detecting the extra fan?
@kevinsica46113 жыл бұрын
If you connect either the power or rgb directly to the mobo I don’t think icue will detect it. You need a commander/lighting node to be able to control them. Otherwise you can connect it to mobo and control it by bios but it will be not show and be part of icue system.
