Agreed! I got a LeFay Waran 5 String on Reverb for half what it cost new (still a small fortune though). I love everything about it, but I wish it was a multiscale, as the low B is really floppy. LeFay offers a multiscale version, but it is close to 6k €.

I myself am a fan of the fanned fret. I occasionally play an Ibanez SRFF 805 and it's fanned. Cort makes a nice feeling and sounding instrument. I own a C-5 Plus.

I have one of these but in green finish (I think it's supposed to be Cort Artisan A5 Plus SCMS, but essentially looks like the same bass). Great instrument for the money, intonation is really good, build quality is ok, it's pretty light and looks great. I'm more into progressive rock/metal and this bass sounds really good for that. String spacing is not a problem for me, it's really convenient and I can slap with no problem. The one thing that bothered be a lot is a weird position of the top strap button. Without strap locking mechanism this bass WILL fall almost every time you move it up or down. I bought a pair of daddario strap locks and now the problem is fixed, but it still felt like a design flaw.

I once saw a Les Paul strap pop off and drop 3' to 4' from the stage to the floor . This was in the 1970's when strap locks were coming into the market . When I bought a Les Paul Triumph Bass , I put a metal washer between the peg and the strap to keep it on . I then went out and bought strap locks .

Ouch. I've played mostly fender jazz bass for a decade and never had any issues with it falling off the stap. On this bass, however, the button surface is almost parallel to the ground so if you have an old soft strap, it might not hang at all.

I can 100% confirm. I also have the A5 Plus SCMS (in natural finish) and the first (and only) thing I changed was to buy strap locks, because it just won't hold otherwise. Other than that it's an amazing bass for the price (bought it new from store for 800€). :)

I own one of these with the clear, spalted maple top. It's a great bass, but I also own the Ibanez version that is really close to this but not multiscale (and I'm pretty sure also built by Cort), and I think the Ibanez is the slightly better bass. I prefer the looks, the neck and feel of the Cort, and I dig the multiscale, but the Ibanez just sounds better.

Sounds good!! AND COMES WITH A CASE!! FOR UNDER $1,000 DOLLARS second company I've seen that offers a case for $100,000 companies are starting to listen to their customers. Biggest pet peeve of mine is when you purchase a guitar base for $1,00or more and it comes to you in a cardboard box I'm sorry that's not the experience I want. I always played on 16mm string spacing and for me that is very importatnt information. For most basses I have to ask people in facebook groops what is string spacing because companies do not specify that on their web cite, even Gregor rarely talks about that. I tried wider spacing but i feel more comfortable with 16mm.

Really love my Ibanez SR spacing, so I don't think the 'small' string spacing would be an issue for me. I do wish they'd speced it out a little nicer though. I've had multiple basses with the MK1 pickups and preamp and none of them have ever really impressed me. Actually swapped them out for Nordstrands and Aguilar components.

Tried several times to get used to 16.5 Not happening. 17.5-18 is optimal for 5 strings, I think, provided the neck isn't too wide. There's a surprisingly large variance in neck width from manufacturer to manufacturer even when the string spacing is the same. Well, I suppose you guys knew that already. I'll leave this comment anyway since you guys are awesome.

they couldn't be any more different. I guess you have to try them, for me it would definitely be this one. The EHB lack a bit of punch and this one here has it for days. It's a lot heavier tho

I've ordered a Cort A5 Plus SCMS and an EHB1505. These two basses really are different. Anyway, I've kept the Cort and returned the Ibanez. And I think that even if I would have gotten the Ibanez (1,600 EUR) at a Cort price (970 EUR), I still would have chosen the Cort!

Bartolini MK1 (on Corts) vs. (new) Nordstrand Big Breaks (on Ibanez SR605) - what are the biggest diferences and which ones do you prefer? They're both split coils in soapbar shells

I had 2 basses with Bart MK1's (Ibanez SR 755 and SR 505) and the sound was very warm, mellow, and smooth. That said, they definitely lacked punch, bite, and definition. I ripped the Bartolini electrics out of my SR 755 and put in a pair of Nordstrand Big Splits and it sounds noticeably better. It's just as 'thick', but has a lot better note definition and clarity than the MK1 setup. I haven't found myself playing the SR 505 with the stock MK1's in quite some time, so I'd vote Nordstrand. That said, the SR 605 is not multiscale, so the low B won't sound as crisp regardless of the pickups you choose. IMO, Ibanez's closest multiscale competitor is the SRMS 805. I've been debating either that or a Kiesel for my next bass (if I ever get around to justifying a new bass).

​@@TomMarello If you actually do any kind of research, you'll find that Big Breaks are literally the same layout, and very similar specs, as Big Splits. This technique is used pretty often to advertise a 'custom' pickup made 'specifically for X brand' when it's just an ever-so-slightly modified existing model. IDK about Bart's current licensing with MK-1's, but they were in Ibanez basses for a solid decade at least. Both mine were stock with MK-1 pickups/pre. Feel free to make up your own mind, but I've played both and it's Nordstrands for me every time.

@@TomMarello BassTheWorld does a lot of 'clip takes' often with a bunch of effects on the clip rather than doing a tonal demo of the instrument. That's the biggest gripe I have with that channel, TBH. I've played both and, to my ears, the MK1's sounded 'rounder' and 'warmer' where the Nordstrands sounded more 'crisp' and more 'defined', so kinda depends on what tone you're after. Ultimately, I'd suggest finding a store to play each of them if you can to hear for yourself.

I own this bass and if this had a different name on the headstock, it'll be worth double the price. It's a bit of a shame that a lot of people will overlook Cort just because of snobbery. For the rest of us, this is a top bass and well worth the money.

I disagree. While the name certainly has an effect on the price, I think the biggest factor here is the country of manufacture.

@@andesneko that also is an issue, as for some reason people think that operating a c&c machine in one country is better than another. Tbh even out of the box, this thing is great. It's not the 70s, it is now possible to get good quality instruments made outside of the US or Europe.

@@Turak_64 Yup. However, what I really mean is that the salary of a US or Japan Luthier is more than twice the salary of someone in Indonesia, for instance. There is a very good specific reason the instrument is more expensive. Plus, because they're already expensive, they use different woods etc. It is not the same level. What is true is that the more expensive the less the return for the money, it is not a linear scale of 1:1 price=quality, but with that factored in, expensive instruments are in general better than their cheaper counterparts.

I wonder why they went with that weird single cut body shape for the only multiscale bass that they have in their catalog, instead of a more traditional double cut. It might have nice features under 1k USD but not sure of how many bass players enjoy that body design.

Fanned frets look aesthetically odd to me, and while I haven't tried playing one, I'd imagine that switching between fanned fret, and fretless basses could be problematic for muscle memory fingering. Anyone have experience with this?

The only issue I find with my multi scale is that chords are hard work/impossible on the dusty end of the fretboard - you can't barre notes in the same way. I don't play chords much though so it's not an issue.

excellent reviews from you, as usual. thanks. 16.5 spacing is rediculous if you want freedom for all techniques of playing.. A style is not a little compartment you occupy for each song - tho' it can be - but techniques pop up anytime you might get the inspiration.. I can't get my head around why the bass building business is so hung up on this cramped spacing..?! I'm actually quite irritated by it.. there are quite a few basses I'd love to own but sadly this puts me off completely. Now I use as my main bass an Ibanez BTB SC 5 string with 19mm spacing and I can play absolutely anything that comes to mind..

I disagree. I have an older BTB. The string spacing is the one thing I would change. 16mm much more attractive for me. More comfortable for most playing styles allows for a narrower neck.

The only real drawback on the string spacing is plucking, sticking your fingers between the strings. If you dont have big hands it's pretty irrelevant.
