Hi Kevin, is there any chance you could do me a massive favour? I own the same bass and have some volume balance issues (A-string is noticable louder than the other strings). I discovered that in my bass the MK1 6-string version pickups are installed (there is a little sticker under the pickups). If by any chance you could have a look if in your bass you have the 5- or 6-string pickups, that would be much appreciated. Cheers!
@skateborg4 жыл бұрын
Hey @@tobiasgleitz - I took a look at my Cort Artisan A5 Plus SCMS pickups and the answer is: Yes, there are two Bartolini MK1-6STR pickups installed. Ever since day one of owning this bass, I've noticed the A string signal was louder than the other four strings' signal. To compensate, I adjusted the EQ on my Eden WTX-264 amp to find a balance in volume across the spectrum. I also spent some time adjusting the individual bridges for intonation and string height to get everything dialed in. That said, the A string is still decidedly louder in general. Bartolini MK1-5STR pickups exist. Now I want to know why Cort put Bartolini MK1-6STR pickups in this 5-string bass. I'm going to contact Cort directly and also the distributor I got this Artisan A5 Plus SCMS from. Are you going to bring this pickup matter to Cort's attention as well?
@tobiasgleitz4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, thanks for your answer! I've written an email to Cort via the 'Contact us' form on their website earlier today but haven't got an answet yet. I found a few websites where it specifically says that the A5 Plus SCMS pickups are the MK1-5. I also found a few pictures of the MK1-5 pickups and it definately says "5STR" on their back. Also, the 5-string version has the same dimensions as the 6 string version, so I'm wondering if there was some kind of mixup in the factory, hopefully we'll get an answer soon. I've also contacted my dealer where I bought the bass, I'll let you know when I have any news on that topic. The pickup is a split pickup and it seems to me that the A string is being picked up by the upper AND the lower coil (per pickup). All the other strings are either picked up by the upper OR lower coil. Hope that makes sense, english isn't my native language...

What do you guys think? Is the sound incredible because of the single cut and big wood connection to the neck or is it the effect of the multiscale? And sure you guys will say both.. But as a compromise.. Its hard to choose between the A5 plus FMMH with normal string spacing, It sounds great as well but just not entirely as deep and singing as this SCMS. It looks better IMHO and would make a better slap bass.. And now there will be the A5plus SC with same scale as the FMMH. Better fret spacing compared to the SCMS, no multiscale, big piece of wood along the neck.. I'm so curious which one would sound and perform best allround.. Can you guys make a comparison video between those 3? Or give advice which one would be superior as a instrument to be used allround?

Does the fanned fretboard tune the same as a regular fretboard? Is there any variation in pitch fretting say, the third fret on the G string of both styles of fretboard? It appears as if the angle of the fret would indeed affect pitch, since the distance from the nut seems greater.
@basstheworldofficial6 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn’t affect the pitch at all
@nathanheadley87626 жыл бұрын
Since the bridge and the nut are also slanted the pitch (or spacing of the frets really) is actually the same from string to string
@alexanderdalbakk24636 жыл бұрын
As far as the third fret on the g-string in particular, not sure, but there is reason to believe that it may on some frets. Considering that even with guitars and basses with regular straight frets, the pitch of some notes vary more or less, even when properly intonated. This is usually not noticeable when you play one string at a time as bass players mostly do. But when you play chords, the major thirds have a tendency to be a little off pitch, and I find that this is less of a problem on a fanned fret guitar playing chords in certain ways. This is probably not an issue for most bassists. However I find that "horizontally stretching" chords sound more in tune on the lowest strings on a fanned fret guitar. So maybe a fanned fret bass also may offer a more accurate pitch on certain frets. This is easily proven or dissproven on each instrument for instance by playing a fourth fret harmonic on the E-string and see if it matches the G-sharp on the 1st fret of the G-string, or the 11th fret on the A-string. You will find that the same notes played in various places and on different instruments may vary. Some times quite noticeably. My personal experience is that intonation is a little easier on my fanned fret guitar than the other guitars I have. Although this may be because of other factors not taken into account.

Howdy when setting the switch to passive, do one of the eq knobs become a passive tone control? Also I wish you would have played more notes on the B string whilst on the Neck pickup. After all, most regular scale basses sound fine on the B string when on the Bridge pickup in my experience. It's amazing to me why people demo'ing 5 string basses don't play more notes on the B string up and down the neck. I've actually seen 5 string demos with zero notes played on the B...you should see me yelling at my monitor, it's hilarious. 🙂 I will subscribe after I send this comment. I really do enjoy your videos.

If someone is looking at this in 2021 wanting to buy this bass - then DO. I have one of this and it's a great instrument for rock/metal music. There is ONE problem though - the top strap button placement is kinda weird so you'd have to use strap locks or the bass will fall from the strap constantly.

How would you compare this bass with a similar Ibanez SRSC605?!?
@toddwarsing59294 жыл бұрын
I’ve owned this bass for over a year and played a lot of gigs with it. The strings are closer together than most basses, this makes it really easy to play but also different feeing compared to any Fender style you might be used to. I am happy with it. Compared 19mm spacing you can really fly on this thing. But as he said for slapping ( which we should all be getting away from 😂) it’s not ideal.

I am screaming inside, I just recently bought an Ibanez BTB846sc the main reason being after studying with Gary Willis I had to move away from 4-string for a while and wanted to move to a more modern platform for my playing. So had this bass one been offered as a 6-string model, two had more finish options, three I want multi scale and equal temperament fret correction, and finally if I'm going above and beyond what is standard vs. what should be standard an on-board DI for balanced output. Still on the fence about active passive toggle, would make more sense depending on DI integration active vs passive DI or if those circuits can be linked. @BassTheWorld.com I would love to see a direct comparison between this and the Ibanez BTB 845-6sc series.
