Hi, herbalist there, I’m so excited to see these recipes being shared! This is a beautiful oil and I totally want to try this oil combo. I would suggest leaving those herbs infusing for much longer though, when doing an herbal infusion this quickly, you’re missing out on a lot of those awesome constituents. The downside is that the comfrey will turn it much darker green but the healing properties of comfrey are amazing. Anywho, I love this, thank you so much for sharing! I can’t wait to try it.

So it's not bad to leave the herbs for a day or 2? I left mine for 6 hours but I was afraid the oil might be itchy or something
@ellielynn8219 Жыл бұрын
@@lucillellaneza6533 the longer the better! When I infuse oils I will put some dried herbs in oil (loose, not in a bag) and let it sit in a warm spot or in my Instant Pot on the Yogurt setting with a loose lid on both the oil and the Instant Pot. I’ll let it sit for a couple days to pull out all those important constituents. A seed mat would also work. As long as your using dried herbs and low heat in a clean jar, you can let it steep for a long time. If you’re doing rose petals, I would probably go for like 3 days if you’re heating it. If your doing denser material like chamomile flowers, I’d go more like 7 or 8 days. If it’s a combination then meet in the middle. There is not “right way” to do it, but I do definitely suggest letting it steep longer if you actually want those medicinal benefits. And taking the water to a simmer is much higher heat than I suggest. Also, getting a milk-bag to strain your oils in is preferred. Basically what she’s using to keep the herbs in, I would let the herbs stay loose so you can agitate the jar every 60 min or so, or when you think about it, but letting the herbs stay loose will give it more surface area to absorb and let the oil do it’s magic, sorry that was so long! 😅

I make these myself, but I use gold and silver leaf in my bottles along with a botanical of choice. They are beautiful especially with the cold winter days coming. Thanks for sharing your beautiful formulas. There are so many botanical and oil combinations out there, not to mention the fragrance options! Jill Gross

These look lovely! If I were to steep the herbs for the two hours in the water bath & maybe not strain until a few hours later, would that be harmful? Ex. I let them sit overnight before staining?

Can you use the calendula flowers from the infused oil to put in the finished bottle like you did with the rose petals?
@SunshineSoapandCandleCompany2 жыл бұрын
not really, once they have been heated up for a period of time and the oil has extracted all of the constituents, the petals or herbs just appear really spent, kind of like a wilted flower.

Hi there. I need some advice. I made a herbal infusion of dried out dandilion leaves and decided to add fresh rosemary, sage and thyme not thinking about the moisure they hold. I left it in a warm spot for a week and then moved to dark spot checked on it and let the air out a few times. It has a smell. Kind of herbal though and not pungent/ necessarily bad? Looks similar in colour just slightly darker. When i strained the herbs it looked as if they had gone a little dark but no mould on the plant matter at all. Do you think this will be ok ? want to use topically in a soap or something
@Lottie-c1e Жыл бұрын
also should add i let it sit for 4 weeks

Yes you cannot use fresh herbs with oil infusions. They contain water and will make your infusion go rancid.
@Teeconsultingg2 жыл бұрын
Thank youuu for sharing . Would you get the same effect if you directly placed a hot and the ingredients on direct very “low heat “
@SunshineSoapandCandleCompany2 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. Yes, you can do it that way however, you just need to be very careful not to overheat your oils and botanicals. It is easy to do over direct heat.

How long do the rose petals last without decay? I See so many people using flowers in their products, I was wondering how long does this last?
@SunshineSoapandCandleCompany2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if they expire. I have never had that happen to me. I've had some for personal use that I have had around for over a year and the roses are exactly the same.

@@SunshineSoapandCandleCompany ok thanks i just thought they go bad after a while
@waynegross21132 жыл бұрын
The oils prevent the rose petals from decay. They aren't in a water base product. Anything with water will cause them to break down, oils won't!

@SunshineSoapandCandleCompany2 жыл бұрын
The key is to use it while your skin is damp right out of the shower and then it’s not greasy. Applying a lot to your dry skin will look and feel greasy.
