Yeah, there's a lot of details that are easy to miss. 1) Brandon himself is somewhat chubby, but the kid is in perfect shape for his age. That's a sign of good parenting, usually kids are heavier than the parents. 2) The kid reads. 3) Brandon knows how to explain stuff when Oliver asks. A lot of parents simply don't bother, or give up if the kid doesn't immediately get it. 4) He's not trying to make Oliver like what he likes. You're into art? Different youtubers? Good for ya! Brandon incentivizes Oliver to not only talk about what he likes, but actively go for it. Its simple stuff for the most part, and when you grow up in a good environment its hard to tell how often people go without some of it.

@ninakrishnamurthy667410 ай бұрын
@@icebergmm I’m referring to Codex Alera, a book series Jim Butcher wrote on a dare with a reader. Butcher believed that a good enough writer can make a good story out of any idea, no matter how stupid. But this reader believed that some ideas are too inherently bad to do anything good with them. So, Butcher made this reader a bet: come up with the WORST idea they could think of, and Butcher would write a book based on it. The reader chose the following idea: the Roman Legion meets Pokémon. And from that idea, Jim Butcher wrote Codex Alera: a series set in a world where everyone is bonded to an elemental spirit called a fury; everyone, that is, except for our hero, Tavi. The series follows Tavi as he rises from farmhand to general to king thanks to his own wits and cunning. It’s really good.

throwing shade at GRRM at the end... I like it! A few years ago, I would have scoffed at anyone who said Brandon was the better fantasy author, but since Dance with Dragons released, Brandon has released 3 Stormlight books and several other novels of exceptional quality. He's proven to be not only a much more consistent writer, but he engages with his community in an amazing way, and his writing seems to get better with ever book. Don't get me wrong, I love ASoIaF, but the Cosmere is growing into something truly special, and I actually have faith in Brandon to get it done by the time he retires or leaves this life, and that matters quite a bit. GRRM has seemed to have lost his passion for writing fantasy, meanwhile Brando Sando seems like he's just getting started. I cannot wait to see where he takes the story next.
@justareader____4 жыл бұрын
It wasn’t really shade tho...at least not from Brandon. The meme, yes, but not Sanderson
@michaelandrews1174 жыл бұрын
To be honest, GRRM has written himself into a bit of a bind, I think mostly due to the sheer lack of editing. In the fifth book (of a planned seven) he is *still* introducing new plot lines and characters, with their own motivations and plans, while still requiring his main plot lines (Danny, Jon, Tyrion, Arya, Euron, Cersei and Bran) to be resolved, and that's not counting Stoneheart, Brienne, Sansa, Baelish, Varys and Jaime with their overall, more character driven arcs. It must be an absolute nightmare to navigate, figure out a way to bring everyone together, figure out the main issues (the Iron Throne, the Battle of Winterfell, and The Others), and wrap the story up in a way that feels decisive, earned and bittersweet.

@@allieasbill2055 As someone who also pronounces the "Sz" in Szeth's name: I basically just pronounce the "s" twice and separate the name into two syllables. Will I comment about how wholesome this video is, or will I instead have a tantrum about this part: 23:35 *_inhale_* WHAT DO YOU MEAN SYL WILL BOND MOASH, AM I HEARING THIS CORRECTLY WHAT ARE- WHAT WHY HOW NO NOT MY KALADIN BOY

9:15: "[Venli's] actually good." That's... debatable at best. Everything from the murder of Gavilar to the Everstorm, with the accompanying the return of the Fused and the genocide of her people, is on her head. And all because she couldn't see past her petty jealousy and sibling rivalry. Simply because she bonded a spren afterwards, that was never meant to be hers in the first place, doesn't do particularly much to redeem her for her massive crimes.

Every single character has done awful things in their past, except kaladin. Dalinar literally committed war atrocities that would make him an enemy of every single nation in the world, would he have done them in the real world. That's the entire point of it. No single person is pure, or perfect, or all good, or all bad. Hell, even the bad guys aren't all bad. They are just trying to finish a war the human's started in the first place, millenia ago. The vows just mean you choose to be different from who you were yesterday. Better. They don't make you a good person. It's a promise to be a better person.

also I think that a lot of that stuff would have happened anyway. yes she was a jealous sibling, but there was going to be a way to begin the desolation with or without her

@@Greentrees60 perhaps, but the fact remains that she's the one it began with.
