Did you know that over 1300 ingredients have been banned in Europe but only 11 or so in the United States? Here's a cosmetic chemists look at whether this should be something to worry about.

I'm a professional in the cosmetic business for the last 15 years now. And what you say isn't true. In Europe, they had banned the preservative named Phenoxyethanol for cancerogenic proven harmful effects for the end-user but in USA almost all the brands are using this preservative. What shocks me every single day it's the lack of information regarding those dangerous ingredients and the denial of many. Then something I want to add, in Europe before any product launch you need to send a dossier to the authorities with all the details for every single ingredient then also for the finished product. Obviously, it's much difficult to launch a product in Europe but it's certainly much safer.

I'm not really sure where you get your information but Phenoxyethanol is not banned in Europe and in fact, is still approved on the Annex list of approved preservatives. It also doesn't have carcinogenic effects. You can check the reports by the SCCS or the CIR for all the safety testing that has been done on Phenoxyethanol. You are correct it is more difficult to launch a product in the EU, however they are using pretty much all the same chemicals that people use in the US. We all work from the same suppliers. Big corporations in particular follow EU regulations for formulating because they want to sell the same formula everywhere in the world.
