1. The doctrine of penal substitutionary atonement "theory" turns the Father of Jesus into a pagan deity who can only be placated by the barbarism of child sacrifice! The cross is not a form of 'cosmic child abuse' -vengeful father punishing his son for an offense he didn't commit!
2. Why does God need to kill anybody in order to forgive? Why can't God do what He asks us to be able to do- to freely forgive without demanding retribution first? As all theologians should know, the very concept of forgiveness is based on the ancient practice of releasing a debt rather than collecting it from someone else!

Me as well! That statement clarified to me how forgiveness works. It’s hard but when we forgive those who hurt us - whether they apologize or not, and regardless of whether they will keep hurting us - we are imitating Christ. How humbling.

It is an amazing insight. But i think it is worth acknowledging that this insight is obscured by penal substitutionary attonement. Because the penal part makes it a transaction based on a legal framework. When we understand it through relationships, the need to legalise it goes away, and so does the need for the penal metaphor.

Exactly. God gave us his commandments to show us what righteousness is and that none of us are. It's our mission to get as close as we can to achieve it and to work towards it learning the scripture practicing commandments as best as we can and to ask for forgiveness when we can't or relapse. If everyone did this we wouldn't need the penal system but we kicked God out of the classrooms and colleges and restructured the church's to practice lawlessness and to worship men. WE DESERVE WHAT'S COMING AND FOR MOST PEOPLE IT WILL BE TOO LATE TO REPENT WHEN THEY SEE HIM COMING IN A CLOUD.

It was a selfless offering to defeat death, by the living example of first sinning and then circumcision, mikveh and offering showing us the way to eternal life. Very few understand because the scripture has been twisted into a false religion and those deceived by it are under a strong delusion. I’m a young person in college and have shared these movies with everyone... my roommates and church friends and non-Christians. It’s caused somewhat of a ripple effect. Other students have shown their families (many of whom are non-believers!) and they have shown others. Many many late-night discussions in the dorms have started because of these films. I don't know if Alisa Childers or anyone tackled this in the full documentary, but I would like to add something further to what she said based on that awesome eye-opening point she made. (Spoilers below): She basically talked about the turn the other cheek part and the justice of "return a slap for a slap" and absorbing the "justice owed to that person" (by having them slap your other cheek that was meant for their cheek). So, now with Romans <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="383">6:23</a>. "For the wages of sin is death;" -Alisa basically beautifully pointed out, God's not going to give us the punishment we deserve by absorbing the justice owed (on the cross). Jesus paid the penalty. Here, I want to add (again don't know if this was brought up). But He also gives us: "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." -So, not only NOT giving us what evil we deserve (by taking the penalty on our behalf so we don't have to), but giving us what good we don't deserve (from *ALL* the blessings brought forth by HIS perfect righteous sinless life and (sacrifice taking on the *wrath of God and punishment we deserve for our sins)).* So, here it's not simply that the person sinned against bore the "loss"/offense/pain/etc. of the first slap and saying "I'm not slapping you back" (not giving what the offender deserves), but ALSO that the slap of justice meant for the offender be slapped back against the other cheek (OFFENDER gets to slaps the other cheek also). Same with prodigal son. Not only did the son not have to pay anything back, neither did the Father told the son to work for his living now as a hired servant, BUT the Father restored him to being a son and the Father will now have to spend more for his return (as a son and not as a hired servant) and the Father wasn't stingy about that either. The party, ring, etc..that the son didn't deserve..at all. So back to Matthew. ...but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, *turn to HIM the other* also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, *let him have thy cloak also.* And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, *go with him twain.* ... But I say unto you, *Love* your enemies, *bless* them that curse you, *do good* to them that hate you, and *pray* for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.... *It's not simply bearing the loss by not paying back evil for evil (not give what they deserve and bearing loss upon self), but to "bear even more loss" by repaying the evil back with good.* (But in Christ, it's not really "more loss" because of the future gain). All made possible by Christ's perfect life and sacrifice.

THIS! Even thought I keep abreast of the horrific prosperity doctrine, I was so confused the first time I watched American Gospel, Christ Alone (less confused the second time, but it still wasn't easy). I kept thinking the P.Preachers' statements were supposed to in line with what the other statements were saying, and I was back-tracking in my mind all the time, missing the next thing said. If the "bad guys" had a certain filter over the screen (blurry edges, a boarder of $$$, or all black & white, etc), it would make for SUCH smoother viewing, for the newbie (or slow ones, like me).

I praise God for the way you denounce the errors and false teaching of the prosperity gospel, word of faith, hypercharismatic and N.A.R movement. I agree with you that there are a lot of abuse of all kinds in the church worldwide. I too had my eyes opened to all those errors, I was spitiritual abused when I decided to leave my fellowship due to doctrinal errors and could no longer stay under their teachings. Your documentary confirmed a lot of what I experienced. I was gullible and had no idea about all the various biblical world view... Last year was a big eye opener year while learning about the different biblical world view. What I discover with God's leading is that even the calvinist reformed movement have some errors. I do like their teaching very much but there are not without mistake themselves. So I praise God for guiding me in Spirit and in Truth and putting some humble teachers on my path, those that are not afraid to admit that they don't know everything all of the time but are prepare to learn and search the bible in its context for truth and eventually admit if the were wrong about something. We must be carefull to remain humble at all time and continue to be teachable. This would be funny if it wasnt Christian's fighting with Christians. Strawman arguements all around. Why dont you listen to each other instead of fights for your limited view. I understand penal substitution, and it weakness. It does not explain well how the father sacrifices in the death of Christ without strange and complex interpretation of the Trinity. It is a metphor for the mystery of the mechanism of the cross. There are several other metaphors that explain what happen (ransom, atonning lamb). We dont have to accept your metaphors of a God who it trapped by his own laws as judge and government to make payment. Its not about which metaphor is right, its about which helps us understand something we can never fully understand. Time to build unity, not demand all come under one interpretation of scripture.

@@timothytrudgen8881 we accept that there are multiple angles to view the atonement (ransom, penal substitution, victory, moral influence, etc.) but believe that when you reject penal substitution, you reject the core of the gospel. The people in this film reject a God who is just (who will by no means leave the guilty unpunished), yet is compassionate and gracious, and willing to forgive sins (it’s both/and, not either/or). He does this by taking that justice upon Himself in the person of Christ. People who reject this usually don’t understand who God is, or how great their sin is to a Holy God. There is no middle ground position. God isn’t trapped by his own laws, His own laws are a reflection of who He is! We cannot have unity with people who deny essentials of the gospel, and who consider the God we love to be a moral monster.

I'm not sure what you refer to by "this". I recognize that in both American Gospel documentaries it's not really clear which speaker is the orthodox and which is the heterodox teacher. In other words, unless you already know what the documentary is wanting to convey, it's hard to know when they are putting forth an argument for our against that message. The orthodox doctrine is in there, but you need to watch carefully, and maybe even watch it a second time to understand what the message really is.

In reality, the numbers 666 has nothing to do with anything at all! John/YAHuchanan didn’t write down a “number,” he wrote down the 3 Greek letters of the symbol for Jesus H. Christ. Below is what Revelation 13:18 looks like in Greek: “Εδω ειναι η σοφια οστις εχει τον νουν, ας λογαριαση τον αριθμον του θηριου, διοτι ειναι αριθμος ανθρωπου και ο αριθμος αυτου ειναι χξς.” (translate) “Here is wisdom whoever has the mind, we figured the number of the beast: for it is man's number and that number is chxs.” (Rev. 13:18) It is not a number, it is a SYMBOL! The number 666 in English is misleading as it only represented the gematria or the associated number of what YAHuchanan actually wrote in Greek letters χ, ξ, ς (Chi, Xi and Sigma). Translators converted the Greek letters χξς into the number 666 because they mistranslated the meaning of the Greek word arithmos in Rev. 13 as “number.” They subtracted χξς and added 666. They should never have changed the SYMBOL to a number! The Translators should have left this ‘symbol’ in English χξς so that at “the time of the end” we would recognize the mark, the monogram, and the pictogram. The number 666 has nothing to do with what YAHuchanan actually wrote as he didn’t write down a number but a SYMBOL. We arrived at our English translation of Revelation 13 by uninspired translators and scribes who did not posses the “wisdom” and spiritual “insight” YAHuchanan said was required, leaving us all subsequently in the dark until now. YAHUCHANAN SAW THE SYMBOL χξς NOT A NUMBER What YAHuchanan was shown in Revelation 13 was a vision of the mark, the symbol of the serpent, the pictogram, and the monogram of Jesus H. Christ. YAHuchanan did not see nor write a number. The symbol YAHuchanan saw was a symbol for Jesus H. Christ which is called a Christogram. A Christogram is a monogram or combination of Greek letters that forms an abbreviation for the name of Jesus Christ, traditionally used as a Christian symbol. Christogram comes from the Latin phrase "Christi Monogramma,” meaning "monogram of Christ.” Different types of Christograms are associated with the various traditions of Christianity. As indicated above, the Catholic Encyclopedia admits that these Christograms are symbols not numbers. Throughout history, the Christian Church has used various combinations of Greek letters in Christos ΧΡΙΣΤΟS to represent Jesus Christ as SYMBOLS; it does not and has never used 666 or numbers. Sometimes we see letters in Christos in combination with letters from other titles used as the monogram for “Jesus Christ.” For instance, the famous chi-rho monogram, a symbol which became part of the official standard of the emperor Constantine, was made from the first two letters of Christos ΧΡΙΣΤΟS. Like the one Constantine used, which is still being used today on the pagan altar of the Catholic Church and other Christian structures. The Christogram that YAHuchanan used in Revelation portrayed the most famous monogram for Christos (ΧΡΙΣΤΟS) with the Egyptian pagan mystery symbol of the serpent ξ in the middle to give it more meaning. The sea serpent is identified In Revelation 13:1 as the “beast coming out of the sea” or sea serpent and is the source of the power, authority, and throne of the false messiah. So when identifying that beast (the false messiah), YAHuchanan used the first and last letters of Christos (ΧΡΙΣΤΟS) with the symbol of the serpent ξ in the middle. The universal symbol for the serpent throughout the ages and throughout cultures is a serpent in an upright coil. What YAHuchanan was telling us by using the standard monogram for Jesus Christ or ΧS is that the “sea serpent” or the dragon would be the source of the power, great authority and throne of the false messiah by inserting the symbol of the serpent ξ in between them! This is exactly what the Apostle Sha’ul told us: “The coming of THE LAWLESS ONE (the one in whom the Law is abolished: i.e. Jesus Christ) is according to the working of Satan (the spirit behind the false messiah is the serpent), with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood, and with all deceit of unrighteousness in those perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, in order for them to be saved.” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10)

Now let's tell you a story about a man named Jesus: A god assaulted, by proxy, inseminated a 'virgin' named Mary, in order to bring his son incarnate into our world. A cowardly action... Mary and her fiance?, ....Joseph, had to travel to Bethlehem to register for the census. There Mary gave birth to a son of a god.? God put a star in the sky to guide people to the baby? In a dream God told Joseph to take his family to Egypt. Then this God stood by and watched as Herod killed thousands and thousands of babies in Israel in an attempt to kill Jesus. (wow!) And the man, alive once again but still with his wounds (so anyone who doubted could see them and touch them), appeared to many people in many places. Then he ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of his god the father almighty, never to be seen again. Today you can have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. You can pray to this man and he will answer your prayers. He will cure your diseases, rescue you from emergencies, help you make important business and family decisions, comfort you in times of worry and grief, etc. This man will also give you eternal life, and if you are good he has a place for you in heaven after you die. The reason we know all this is because, after the man died, four people named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote accounts of the man's life. Their written attestations are proof of the veracity of this story. This is the story of a Jesus. "" Do you believe this story?
