There will be inflation, but eating out in VN will always be one of the cheapest in the world because the vast majority of eateries and services are family run and they face stiff competition-- They have to be really good and really cheap. Chain restaurants really don't exist in VN because they can't compete.

I can’t believe you released this video at the perfect moment. I’m coming to the end of my 2 month travel and after 3 countries Thailand, Vietnam and Japan I can vouch how affordable Vietnam is compared to Thailand. Japan wins hands down for value even if the price is slightly more expensive. We only want to stay in Asia from November to March each year and Da Nang is so much better than anywhere we went in Thailand. I could write a blog post comparing the difference on why Thailand is not as good as people think it is.

I personally think Thailand has it's pros and cons. I used to live in Bangkok every winter and the city is one of my favorites still. 15 years ago I fell in love with SE Asia after my first holiday in Thailand. I wouldn't live in Hanoi or Saigon long-term, but Da Nang definitely feels like home by now. It's not perfect, but I gave up on "perfect" and learned to appreciate what I have :)

@@OlgaProGoingPlaces I was shocked how poor Hanoi is compared to Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh has some hope in the future to become a modern functioning city on par with Bangkok, but Hanoi with its awful city planning has no hope unless they just start again which is completely unfeasible. It’s not like Europe or Russia with organised city planning.

@@ChrisLivingInYork You really want to know why Hanoi city is poor compared to Saigon. Vietnam is a country cursed by wars for centuries. It should be noted, however, that the mentality of the Nordic populations is that of warriors who only think about waging war and despoiling other people's lands. South Vietnam is inhabited by a more peaceful pagan people. Instead of thinking about waging war all the time, they focus their efforts on building and building, which is not the case for the Northerners who devoted their budget to the war effort against South Vietnam particularly in 1940 to 1975. This is why Saigon has more high-rise buildings. instead of small dilapidated houses in the North. As an unfortunate consequence, Democratic South Vietnam lost the war against communist North Vietnam and with it the tragedy of the thousands of boat people perished in the South China Sea in the 1980s.

For having travelled all over the world, I can say that whenever I got food poisoning, it was from a restaurant, and not from a market stall. And I think I know why: in the market the food is freshly made every morning from freshly bought produce. So its not very fair to say that market food is less hygienic than a restaurant. In a restaurant the hygiene can be lacking, the food stored too long in the fridges and get contaminated.

I've watched some of your videos sharing about life and living costs in Vietnam and also read quite a few comments from foreigners. Many comments praise, many criticize the increasing living costs in Vietnam as well as issues of environment, traffic, food hygiene and safety. In my opinion, such a comparison is quite unfair to Vietnam because our country is only a developing country and cannot be compared with developed countries in Europe, America or your homeland. When you choose a country with lower standards than yours to live long-term, you have to accept the bad things about that country but in return with a low or moderate budget you will have a good quality life, freedom, comfort and freedom from the pressure of living costs compared to the homeland. The rising cost of living in Vietnam or any country in the world is obviously normal because the world economy in general is going through a period of recession and inflation, so prices are increasing steadily. Surely the price will never be lower or equal to the price ten or twenty years ago, you have to accept that. Instead, we must find ways to earn more monthly and yearly income to make our lives more stable. We cannot have a better quality and more stable life with just $1000 per month for the next 10 or 20 years without our income increasing. I am very happy that many foreigners choose Vietnam to live long term. I hope everyone will have a happy and joyful life in Vietnam.

@@OlgaProGoingPlaces Thanks Olga. At this point I am trying to get a fuller picture. When people are over 60 it's not all that appealing to think of traveling so far to a part of the world with the cultural differences PLUS the issue of the climate. Unless it were a Plan C just to get away from the crazy Woke situation in the US and Canada!

@@dovygoodguy1296 other infrastructures are also okay if you live in the big city as Da Nang and Dalat, but keep in mind that no where is perfect. The whether in Da Nang is almost humid around the year and storm sometimes and cold in the winter. In the opposite, Da Lat is cool all months and it rains a lot in rainy season. Both city are beautiful but Da Nang is developer, when you live in Da Nang you can travel to other tourist hot spots like Hoi An, Hue... Da Lat is the city of flower and located in the central highland, it's a romantic and safe city, if you are single, you would feel lonely mate.

@doodahgurlie
@doodahgurlie 8 ай бұрын
@@dovygoodguy1296 If you don't want to live in a sauna, then you might like Da Lat better as it's in higher altitude. Of course that means it's colder there and no beach. But there's a ton of stuff to do in Da Lat. Internet is great all over Vietnam. Many Westerners mentioned over the years that they get better Internet there than in the US (even in the remote mountain regions of Vietnam). Infrastructure won't be as great as in the US, but Da Nang is modern so it's better than the bigger and older cities. Lots of digital nomads used to live in Da Nang before covid (then they forced to leave as they were basically working there but weren't paying taxes). Noise...that's gonna be all over Vietnam. It's not a quiet country. Same for congestion unless you move to a much smaller town.

Cheap foods that sound good, but will the foods safe for your body?. A lot of foods are not safe in Vietnam. A lot most of foods are related with a lot of chemicals that will harm your body, not including your stomach, diarrhea often happens to me when I travel in Vietnam. My suggestion brings some anti diarrhea medicine.

During a year in Vietnam I didn’t have a serious food poisoning yet. Although being careful with food can be a good recommendation for traveling in all SE Asian countries. Out of the countries I’ve been to I think food safety in touristy beach cities in Vietnam is similar to Thailand/Malaysia and better than in the Philippines. I haven’t been in rural Vietnam, so can’t say how it’s there.

I doubt the hygiene up to par. The reason is the lack of clean water. The temperature is hot. So raw meat or raw fish spoils very fast. It’s great to enjoy the beach. But the water ‘s not clean in some areas. It’s a good idea to bring medication for diarrhea and update all immunization shots.

thanks for the feedback 🙏I do understand that most of the viewers are not from US :) And I agree that prices in VND should be mentioned too. but if I’m completely honest doing voice overs and editing all by myself is very time consuming, I worked all week and sacrificed my weekend to finish this one and worked till 8pm on Sunday 😭 As soon as I can afford to hire an editor, I promise the quality of editing will be better with conversions and prices in both currencies on the screen. For now I decided that USD is the currency most of the people know the value of. And sometimes I just forget to mention VND, and there is no time to record it all over again or put every price on the screen. I hope you understand 🤗 You can help me get closer to hiring an editor here, I would appreciate it www.buymeacoffee.com/olgapro

The problem with food in VN is the quality of ingrediants. Sugar, MSG and people should ask how it is possible to buy a steak for 60k vnd, VN doesn't have stringent food laws like Europe, so you are essentially eating dog food. Obviously more reputable places use better ingrediants.
