Custom fit sandals! that's awesome! Vietnam is the land of being pampered. You might want to add a weekly massage to your schedule. I used to get a massage every week back in 2006 for $20. Two ladies would give me a massage for an hour. It was a legit massage and no happy ending but boy did I feel relaxed.

I have been considering this! I have never had a message by a stranger in my life. I’m just not a touchy feely type. Not sure how I could deal with even two strange women touching me unless it was all about happy ending. Then at least I have purpose!! 😜

Mate can I ask why you left florida for Asia? I've always wanted to visit florida if not settle there from the UK, I'm currently in Thailand. Do you rent your florida home on airbnb?
@ExpatInterview
@ExpatInterview 27 күн бұрын
Hi, and first, thanks for watching! Why I left Florida?!! Well, several reasons, starting with the cost of living. In the recent years since COVID prices have escalated drastically! The home I was renting for $875 p/mo. went up to $1,650. Once I retired it was just not affordable to me anymore, and I wasn't going to keep working just to live in Florida. Secondly, Have been planning for 10 years to leave the US when I retired and I've gotten so tired of the political landscape in the entire US that I got to the point that I just didn't want to live anywhere in the country. Hate, has consumed America. If I were you, I would stay in Thailand.

New subscriber. Lots of good information. I would love to come visit from Hawaii where I retired in 2004. Getting rediculous here with food prices especially if you eat out. Farmers markets are a rip. Thanks for the video. I am curious ,is there alot of English. speaking locals there like in the Philippines ?
@ExpatInterview
@ExpatInterview 24 күн бұрын
I would have to say no, to “a lot” of English speaking locals. There are “a lot” of English speaking expats though! The other thing is they often don’t seem to understand what Google Translate comes up with either. That being said, somehow, I haven’t considered it a big problem. Nearly all menus in restaurants are in English and it seems like I’m able to communicate what I have to. Yes, I’m sure Hawaii is way, way more expensive than anywhere in Vietnam. Thanks for watching!

Thank you sir for sharing. One add, what if you had an emergency medical situation, what is the medical setup there for immediate care. I am coming there in January for a five day trip. Would love your feedback as someone who is actually living the local life. Love seafood, beaches, and cultural events. Can you please share three or four things that I must do in that short time and three or four to AVOID. Stay healthy and safe.
@ExpatInterview
@ExpatInterview 17 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I too am only passing through, only here for a short time. As far as medical or any other type of emergency contacts I suggest a Google search for “emergency numbers for English speakers in (city) Vietnam”. This will return a list of all types of phone numbers. I highly recommend UHCSafetrip.com for travel/medical coverage. As far as things to see, I can recommend that you look on booking sites and review excursions that you may like and enjoy for the areas that you are in because we all enjoy different types of things. My channel doesn’t focus on travel activities, I’m more into the way of life and costs associated with living in different parts of the world with current concentration of SE Asia. I can recommend one of my favorite fellow KZbinrs who channel is all about traveling and great places to see and he has a complete series dedicated to Vietnam, Paddy Doyle! The one place I recommend if you get up toward Hanoi is the Ha Giang Loop. Paddy has an awesome video on it! Hope this helps!

Many travel insurance policies cover medical coverage as well. The policy I mentioned in the video will United Healthcare covers medical 100%. Most typical medication are $8 for a month supply. The expenses I showed are including all these expenses and still less than $1,200 p/mo. My first Vietnam video shows a medication purchase. It would be real hard to spend $3,000 p/mo in Vietnam unless you were renting a 3 bedroom condo right on the beach and eating all western foods at restaurants every day. Thanks for watching!

I completely hear you about Airbnb, trust me. I had a pathological liar host add a bunch of lies about me and it has been hard to rent ever since. I don't have time to bid on 3-4 places before someone accepts me, nevermind the disgusting hosts in places like the US or France who expect you to clean the place with a toothbrush down to the last speck while still charging a fortune for cleaning. But booking sadly isn't a solution either. It really depends on the city & country. In some places, Booking has just as good or even better places at the same or less cost. In other places, booking has absolutely nothing. Literally, nothing. Or only hotels that are $3000-5000 per month. So unfortunately, I have to be pragmatic and realize Airbnb is a company I have to stay on good terms with.

My God man - ? - you only spent 'that much' - w/o trying to be thrifty or frugal in any way ? -- Many are so concerned about their budgets when traveling S E Asia - obviously you did well - but longer term (?) - a visa run and visa expense will need to be added ? -- I like Cambodia - to cost about the same - if only a bit thrifty !
@ExpatInterview

@@ExpatInterview Sounds like a $1000 / mo. just might be easy enough with a pinch or a bit of frugal or thrifty sprinkled in your lifestyle w/o too much pain or denial ? But long term you must include the visa and travel expenses. --- I'm liking SIem Reap & was planning from the US for a $1500 budget. A few expats already there for years are telling me - a little more than half of that is actually needed for comfort ! (?) A 1 year 'retirement visa' costs $180 & you never have to leave !!! (= No 'visa runs' from Cambodia) I'm frugal and lazy. 50 cent beers there !
