The Europa is very beautiful (I saw her when I was in Antartica) and I truly hope they right the vessel and get it repaired to new condition

Right now it's the middle of winter in the Antarctic; it's always rather chilly down there but it gets downright nasty when the sun goes down for the year and I can't think of a less good time to visit than this time of year. I'm not sure when the "cruise ship season" is in the Antarctic, but if I was betting I would guess that September would be "spring" before the season start, so the owner does have time it if Mr Sloan's ambitious schedule works out.

It sure doesn't seem like 10 years since Costa Concordia grounded! Ultra G looks like a sport car :) Doesn't seem very big until you notice the crew walking in front of the bridge glass, that's a pretty good sized boat! I miss the Yacht-Spot segments. Great video, thanks for sharing the updates!

People are always making lawyer jokes and claim to hate lawyers, but in my opinion, insurance people are more dishonest. I used to work for an injury lawyer, and insurance companies could be counted on for passive-aggressive tricks like ignoring correspondence, not returning calls or referring one's case to a field person who is never at their desk. They'd drag the case on for months, then settle the day before trial. There is no excuse for them not to act promptly in the case of a vessel as historic and unique as the Europa.

I was once told by an eminent lawyer and building contract law expert that in UK the best advice in situations like this is to immediately instruct the resolution of the problem to get it back to the position it was before the incident and to ignore any protestations from insurers and surveyors who always want to get more reports. In so doing the shipyard will have been seen to have mitigated the damages due to the owner and kept the obligations as simple and therefore least costly as possible. Delaying action can generate additional damages due to the owner that may not be covered by the insurance and then there will be a very costly and unnecessary legal fight to recover costs The insurers only involvement should be in paying up to rectify the damages, not to concentrate on their cost liabilities. Clearly, any resolution should be done with speed but so as not to endanger anyone or, if at all possible, to minimise any further damage. The shipyard only has a contract with the owner of the vessel and that is the primary source for the duty, everything else is incidental. In the event that the insurers complain about the course of action then the shipyard can look to their contract with the insurers for resolution later.

When you told us Q would be the new name for Ragnar I thought of James Bond's gadget man not the anon people lol. Europa looks sturdy, hoping for a speedy recovery so she can get back to making money. All of these tall ships only survive because of donations or earnings so that's very important.

Funnily enough last night I watched the Salvage Masters video about the recovery of the Concordia on youtube! Certainly a monumental task and one that was superbly executed by Nick Sloane and his team. Prior to this, I believe he was involved with the container ship "Rena" which ran aground here in NZ a year or so earlier. Sad to see the "Europa" in such a state - but I'm sure she's in good hands with Nick at the helm. Keep up the good work 👍

Oh the Costa Corncordia, ship of dreams. It's been 10 years. I can still smell the buffets of her 5 restaurants. The casino and theater had hardly been used. Oh, her gym, her day-spa. The sheets in her 1500 luxurious cabins haven't even been slept in. Costa Concordia cost 570 millions dollars to build; and you could tell… you could really really tell. 😏

You need to dig deeper into these sales. To 'flip' a yacht can mean many things. It could be that the American is putting up the 'front' purchase, just to transfer it to a different name to remove it from Russian ownership suspicion. The American may transfer it to a company that is owned by the original Russian owner, with only transfer fees paid, then the original Russian owner has his Yacht back to be used as he feels. Dig deeper I would suggest.
