Thanks for subscribing! You will love it. It ranked with Phuket, Thailand as one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been to. I stay Ed at the blue reef. The basic room, was basic, but affordable and right on the beach. For the best tacos go to No Hoch Kai and for an amazing dinner and drinks in the beach try Chilangaloense.

I've visited Mahahaul several times via a cruise but am considering flying to Cancun, renting a car, driving down to spend a week. Would love to hear more of your experience doing the same :)

Dannie Combs It is a pretty easy drive from Cancún. Just be careful about the speed bumps and when someone passes you get over on the shoulder to let them by. Renting a car is pretty straightforward but be aware you can negotiate the price at the rental agency, especially on insurance...this saved me about $100. There was a checkpoint when I went into Mahahual but I just needed to show them I had a hotel reservation and they let m through. Depending on your time you might also go to Bacalar lake. Very beautiful and only a couple of more hours down the peninsula!

Take the ADO bus from cancun to mahahual or a caribe/mayab bus to Limoes and a collectivo to mahahual. I forgot to say it gets so quiet after the cruisers leave its very nice...

How do we get here? Request a taxi to the mahahaul boardwalk? And also, what time do we need to request a taxi so we can get back to the ship on time

Yes, you can ask the taxi to take you to the “malecon”. It is at most a ten minute taxi ride, and there are taxis waiting at the port and at the malecon to go back and forth. Everyone knows when cruise ships are coming and going.
