I remember once when I was like 13, I was with my mom at Costco. We were in the meat and cheese section, and there's this dude handing out cheese sandwich samples. I went to go get one, and the dude was like "kid, i can't let you have this because i dunno if you're allergic to it." As someone who has never been allergic to anything, this pissed me off, because even after I assured him I was not allergic to white bread, lettuce, or cheese, he still wouldn't let me have one. Begrudgingly, I waddled over to my mom, who then talked to the dude, who even after talking to the person who brought me there, and was looking out for my well-being at all times, still did not believe that I was not allergic to white bread, lettuce, or cheese. A Costco employee was walking past after seeing my mom arguing that I wasn't allergic to common food items, and plucked a sample off the tray and gave it to me. I still deeply respect that Costco employee for giving me that piece of a sandwich, and I'll never forget him.

I am a sample giver at Costco and we encourage taking multiple samples as it increases the chances of a purchase which is the entire point of our job (even though we dont get bonus if we do well), we are supposed to encourage our "members" to purchace and also embed the info in their minds so that they remember it if they see it later. One time I got to hand out these chocolates that were like turtles and I literally sold out half way through my shift and they wouldn't let me go home early or help with anything else so I literally had to stand there and say "sorry sold out. No, ma'am I cant open more for you theres none left in the store."

As a samples person for Costco, I’m that one who lets you take seconds! If you come back not a big deal! But also the whole telling the servings and calories, it’s what the vendor ask us to do, because obviously there are people who have to watch the things they are eating. Like if I were to make something with soup, more then likely I would have to say if it were high in sodium being that soups are very high in sodium and most people can get sick! But also the ones that get stuck in the back is Costco’s worker’s who decided they were going to leave us back their as we have no say to where we go, where Costco locates us is where we go! Also the reason we ask for a parent to be with a child is for allergy reasons

A couple of things: 1. Samples are provided by the companies that make the sampled products NOT Costco, so the sample ppl are supposed to encourage you to buy the product/tell you about it (this is one of the market strategies companies use and they put quite a bit of money into it) 2. When they run out of the samples, they get to leave (which is why some will hand out multiple samples); 3. I loathe the angry old sample ladies!

Man I used to be a Costco sampler during college and all of what he said was true! I mean I really didn’t care we can’t do anything but give that dirty look at some people taking like their 10th sample, it’s fine for people to take more samples, we had a father and daughter come into Costco just to eat their meals for the day no lie, being at the sample with no lines or people are where we want to be put at, and the info guy probably first day we are forced to do it, but the intent is for you to buy it we get no commission though on it, just the regular hourly pay and that’s it, like it’s boring job mindless but fun, on breaks I go to other carts eat samples and talk to my coworkers, but we are not affiliated with Costco we third party so we don’t get the $15 wage we get $12.65 which sucks but hey it’s a job, some Costco workers are nice but like management or Costco customers sometimes rude at us for no reason, yea that’s my rant on the job I used to have any questions just ask me I can answer them, stay safe everyone!

A good route for taking samples is get the ones with food first, grab a drink sample, then make another loop for food samples and finally hit the drink simple last. Depending on where your drink samples are at, you could either be at the back of Costco by the waters or by the front. If you want, make a 3rd route on the food samples
