Having food on hand is always best. My husband was laid off 18 months.... and we totally covered meals and snacks for 12 months for a family of 10. Then we felt we had done well. And did not feel guilty going to our Bishop for help. Food storage is supposed to be 2 years worth. As you are aware the LDS church always recommends having a good food storage. It might be a neighbor that needs it instead of you even. We only store things that our family eats on a daily basis... and we keep a 2 yr supply sealed tight for our pets. Love watching you two and you Littles. Such a sweet family!

I absolutely open things before I buy them! Lol. My 3 year old LOVES strawberries and they keep him occupied. As long as they aren’t “sold by the pound” and sold for 1 price, I get them and let him dig in. I can’t count the times a cashier has stopped me and asked me if I knew our strawberries were almost empty. 🤣🤣🤣

Hey Ashley, not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but there’s something called a seasonal affective disorder which occurs in higher frequency in countries with longer and colder winters and is caused by there being less sunlight. I’m not saying you have this disorder, however it might be worth looking into it so that winter isn’t such a struggle for you. I love watching your family, especially watching James and George get older, and I also love your podcasts. Thanks for being awesome xx

Get an instant pot for cooking beans No presoaking just dump them in the pot with the required amount of water. And a whole onion quartered, a whole head of garlic ( just cut a slice of the top and bottom and throw it in peels and all.): maybe a bayleaf or two salt and pepper. Set it to cook for the required time (20-45min. Depending on the bean.) . Let it release the pressure for part of the time and then open the valve. If I’m making black eyed peas I do peel the onion and garlic and I do quick release and toss in a big bag of spinach. Stir it around but just place the lid on top to keep the heat in. The. I have a big scoop that I pull out all the good stuff and I save the bean broth for soups or sauces. It’s full of nutrients from the beans and spinach. When I make chick peas I make hummus with them and I add back some of the bean cooking liquid to get the consistency I want. I could never use canned again. Try them! Once you get your preferred add ins and cook time, you will keep the fridge full all the time. The black eyed peas with spinach is something. I could eat every day. Maybe I am the only one?
