Thanks for sharing your experience. For those still using a chest freezer, it it MUCH more convenient to use reusable bags to group like items together. That way, you can access things at the bottom easier, quicker by pulling out BAGS, instead of ITEMS.

I have a large chest freezer and use stackable bins and a marker board above the chest freezer to map out everything in it, therefore I always know what is in my chest freezer, and can always reach all the way to the bottom of it easily. Chest freezers hold cold air extremely well and will save on electricity costs, also chest freezers are not auto defrosting, and so they will keep the temperature more consistent to avoid freezer burn. Finally because the cold air stays in, and isn't constantly spilling out when you open the door, it minimizes moisture and thus frost buildup, meaning manual defrosting events will be minimal.

Thank you so much. Been wanting the Costco up right freezer for so long but always had argument that it’s too small. But the chest freezer we have is a mess full of ice and you are so right do not know what we have. Thank you again

For sure! We ended up keeping our chest freezer too, it's great for big stuff but nothing beats the upright drawer organization! I love the upright, it's a pleasure to open it everytime.

I got rid with no regrets at all of my chest frezer 25 years ago for an Liebherr upright 7 drawer frost freezer and in all these years I had Zero problems ..... Just normal manual defrost once 6/12 months and it will last truble free at least 30 years( the upright frost free freezer have a much more complicated defrost sistem with sensors/heater ant timers that can have problems after 4/6 years.. and the electricity bills are higher...). My only suggestion is to have 3 freezer themometers (one on the top drawer, one in the middle and one in the bottom drawer), so you can set the termostat on the top of the freezer at the correct temerature..... One final consideration about the upright freezers...THE ONES WITHOUT DRAWERS in 2024 ARE A NON SENSE and sales should be prohibited !!!!

i just got mine today. 299 since it was minus 50 bucks off. we had a truck so we just picked it up ourselves. i shifted food from our newly broken down chest freezer. i have to say really it all depends on your food shapes, if it is more flat in dimenson and if you know how to pack each drawer it'll fill pretty easily. i played hella tetris when i as a kid and honestly i got most of my food from my 8.7 chest freezer to fit in this freezer. its really nice to have. not disappointed in my purchase at all...

Thanks for the video review. How has the freezer been for you since you’ve had it for a while now? I just saw this freezer in Costco today. But I read some online reviews saying it requires a lot of defrosting. And did you have to do a lot of defrosting as well with your chest freezer?
@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade 2 ай бұрын
Still love it. Sometimes Costco discontinues things without notice, so if you are seeing it I'd say get it while you can. I'm getting ready to do a follow up video on the freezer, so your question is timely. We have not had to defrost the unit yet, it's been very good and owned it for a year. I do not see ice building up. But if you live in a humid climate or open the freezer more often you may have to defrost it more often. The chest freezer has also been excellent haven't had to do it for a couple years. However another Magic Chef freezer we have that is small, requires it every few months! You'll be fine with this one though, in fact when you have to defrost it you simply remove the seven drawers and unplug it, very easy.

will it hold a brisket?
@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade 7 ай бұрын
Hi it depends how big. I'd say the freezer would hold a small turkey, but NOT a large turkey. So it depends how big your brisket is, if you remove the plastic drawer you'd have 7 inches of clearance between the shelves.

Keith, I have the same unit and noticed the sides get pretty warm. Is yours the same way?
@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade Ай бұрын
Yes, the sides do tend to get warm. At times quite warm. The key I think is they shouldn't be super warm all the time, as there's times when mine feel basically normal, or just a little warm. If they're constantly hot that's a sign the unit is working too hard for some reason.

I have a question I bought this upright freezer from costco about 2 weeks ago but when I plug in I heard the machine it's running but I didn't get any cold from it. Changing my outlet still not cold. Is there something that I missing ? Or I just unlucky? Thank you. I'm about to return it.
@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade Жыл бұрын
It takes a few hours to get cold when first tuened on. You might have got a bad unit, but another possibility is it was laid down or on its side while transported home and then plugged in immediately without waiting 24 hrs. If this happened it can mess up the cooling in the coils.

Can anyone confirm if this freezer is garage ready? Not all freezers are.
@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade 4 ай бұрын
Not officially far as I can tell. But this depends how hot your garage actually gets. I've been running this in our garage from day 1 only turned up half way, and it works great. Same with the freezer before this one, ran fine for years. But even in summer it's rarely above 85 in our garage. I don't think this would work in a really hot garage like in Arizona. Also may depend if your garage has insulated walls or not.

what does it mean for this freezer to be garage ready?
@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade Жыл бұрын
A garage ready freezer is built to withstand more extreme temperatures in the environment This is a more complicated topic and there's articles online about it with more detail and temperature range. My garage doesn't get extremely super hot or cold so I'm able to use a standard fridge/freezer.

@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade 10 ай бұрын
Yes, like nearly all freezers in the $300 range it's manual. However I've never seen an easier way to do it, just remove seven drawers in 30 seconds stack them on your counter and it's ready to defrost. It's a much longer uncomfortable job with a chest freezer.
@AereForst
@AereForst 10 ай бұрын
@@KeithBlade how often do you need to defrost it manually? I’m assuming the ice buildup will cause the drawers to stick will they not?
@KeithBlade
@KeithBlade 10 ай бұрын
@@AereForst Havent had to yet, and minimal ice build up since we got it 6 mo ago. You're correct the drawers will start sticking! We keep ours in an insulated garage. It's drier out West, but I'd say in a humid climate you may have more defrost issues but much of this depends on how long the door is open when people are going in and out of the freezer, that's when air gets in and then freezes on the cold coils. My guess is I'll have to defrost mine no more than once per year with how it's going.
