Cosworth is solely responsible for arguably some of the coolest ever: the Ford Cosworth RS200, Ford Escort RS Cosworth, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, the Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth, Chevrolet Vega, the freakin’ Audi RS4, and a long list of Cosworth powered racing cars from rally to Formula 1. So how in the world did a small British company establish itself as a performance powerhouse that is still working with companies such as Aston Martin, helping develop one of the most powerful naturally aspirated V12 engines ever?
Up to Speed is a weekly automotive history show about the best cars, brands, designers, drivers and influencers ever. Host James Pumphrey covers everything from the Toyota Supra to the Chevy El Camino, The VW GTI to the Subaru WRX. The origins of every car will be uncovered to get you Up to Speed..

So I have a theory: When James had his heart attack, he actually died. However, Audience Member knew that Up to Speed wouldn't be the same without him, so he journeyed into the depths of hell to recover James' soul. My dad and his mom shared a cosworth Vega. He liked it a lot. Didn't seem that bad considering the 120hp dual cam 4cyl escort was only 5 years prior. We went through the whole 80s with the anemic 3rd gen Camaro that didn't even match the numbers of the 2nd gen until the 1993 4th gen came out. So it really wasn't that bad, just disappointing that it was intended to be closer to 200hp. The interior of the cosworth Vega has to be the loudest 70s styling of any production car with that gold hammered style dash that probably has some fancy name.

The Sierras (along with the Skylines) are almost single-handedly responsible for the modern day V8 supercar racing in Australia. The Sierras were so fast when they brought them over in the late 80's early 90's that the local built cars couldn't compete... so they created a new class only for V8's... and left the Australian touring cars for the imports. Of course, no-one in Australia gave a crap about those (from a marketing perspective) and the V8 Supercars became the biggest domestic racing competition.

Maybe it scared him and he doesn't know how to cope. People react in weird ways. I'm not going to judge him. I'm going to welcome him back with a big hug. And then we'll go buy him some Sudafed, the good shit. What I don't like though is people saying, R.I.P.

21:07 The YBB engine & 4WD system that went in the Escort was from the Sierra and was on a shortened Sierra (RWD/4WD) platform. An Escort body was butchered and then welded on top of it... with little, if any, rust protection by Karmann.
