Thanks for posting. I agree with your conclusion at the end. This is a really nice and well made bag - created with sturdy material choices (YKK zippers etc) and with great internal organisation in mind. I got the first model recently at a sale - the updated version has some features such as a removable waist belt and added lash points at the top of the bag to mention a few things. I did my first longer weekend trip with the bag and was pleasantly surprised. I used some packing cubes but I really liked the different compartments and the clamshell design. The size was perfect for me, being 180 centimeters or 5.11 for you guys across the pond. The bag fit all of my belongings in a superb way and I already look forward to my next trip so I can use it.

Just bought my 35L bag while in Montreal, my carry on luggage had seen better days and it was time for a new bag as I plan on going to Ireland and Scotland next year, I'm pretty impressed with this bag, very well constructed made for the rigors of travel for sure. I went with the dark green exterior, yes it sort of screams "hey look at me I'm not from your country!" but I'm 6'4" I stand out no matter where I go haha.

I've been watching a lot of reviews and they're very helpful :). I want to buy this bag because of the material but I'm concerned that it will be too small. Do you know if it will fit less stuff than the Farpoint 40? I know you did a packing demo but I wasn't sure which one would fit more stuff. I would go for the 42L but it isn't available where I live.

Hi I see you reply still on these posts! I appreciate that - my question is does the Batac 16L really roll up that easily? How did you find the Batac? And what’s the maximum sort of load you would want to carry in this?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels Жыл бұрын
I do, thanks! The Batac doesn't have a ridgid frame, just a mesh backing, so it's pretty flexible. It's a decent daypack, some good pockets and organization, but not too much, rolls up fairly small and isn't too heavy, holds a lot. Not sure what max load in weight would be, but because it doesn't have a frame, you don't want to pack it too heavy. I'd say maybe 10-15lbs max.

@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
The 28L is pushing it for a personal item. 35 is a little too big. The 28 is 19" long and barely fits lengthwise in the box. The 35L is about 1" longer so it's really too big for personal item.

@OneBagTravels 4 жыл бұрын
Heck yeah you could spend a year with a 42L bag. Pack about a week's worth of clothes, and do laundry once a week. Merino wool helps because you can wear it more than once. This video is a packing demo for 3 bags including the Allpa. It's more geared for cold weather, but should give you a good idea of what you can fit in the Allpa. I'm wondering if some of the outside loops have a purpose since they seem too intentional to just be cosmetic. The loops on the front like the ones that have the cotopaxi branding on them, and the 4 thin loops at the top, specifically
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
They are advertised as carabiner lash loops for attaching extra gear, but I've never seen anyone actually use them. I suppose you could attach a daypack or something similar to them but I don't know how practical or comfortable that would be. The ones on the top front double as zipper safely devices. I suspect they are actually needed to reinforce the fabric on the pack. To add reinforcement to those angled corners, and instead of trying to hide them, Cotopaxi put a logo on them and said, "Look, carabiner loops!" 😆🤷‍♂️

Looks more posh than the equivalent Osprey. I like the external secondary compartment; I usually have to stow a jacket away upon arrival. The laptop slot access looks easy peasy for removal through security, but maybe too easy if I take a nap in a transit terminal. I love the full size zipper panels on BOTH halves of the main compartments. My other one bags have a full panel only on one half, with just tie down straps on the other. Pricing is north of even Patagonia. Do you see the value?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels Жыл бұрын
I think Cotopaxi bags are solid, it's very well made with good materials and they have a lifetime warranty. My only problems with the bag is it's a little heavy for 28L, not the heaviest in this category, but not light. The plastic exterior is thick and durable, but will get scratched. I like the organization though, and they have some cool color options.

I know you mentioned (and it's listed on their site) that the laptop sleeve is for 15in laptops, but do you think you could squeeze a 16in in there without having the straps tucked in?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Laptops are slightly different dimensions depending on brand/style. 15" laptops are often actually 15.5, so I would imagine a 1/2" wouldnt make much difference, but the sleeve is tight on this bag. They also updated this bag since I've done the video so I'm not sure if the size changed at all. It's a nice bag and Cotopaxi has good customer service, if you like it you can always return it if it doesn't fit.

Have you had any issues with peeling, cracking or scratching of the TPU coating??
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 6 ай бұрын
I haven't had this issue but I am also testing bags constantly so I don't end up using this one enough for that. In general TPU coatings like this will scratch, peel, and crack over time, that's just the nature of the fabric. That being said, the Allpa coating is very thick and durable so I would expect this to last years of heavy use, and if only used occasionally it would last a very long time.

I am 5’8” and wondering which one will be the suitable size for me 42 L or 35 L? I need that extra space but also don’t want it to look very big on me.
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you're carrying. It's always better to go with the smallest pack you can get away with, but if you need the space I'm sure the 42L would look fine. The hip belt on the 35 was a few inches too tall on me, but im 5'10". I didn't try on the 42L pack, but they usually make the backpack carry systems the same size.

I’ve seen this bag in REI and even though the materials are ballistic it’s just too bloody much color if you’re not a five-year-old going to gym class. What really lost me was how are you pointed out the shortcomings in the laptop compartment . No false bottom AND competing with space with the back straps if you tuck them? Bad design there. As I prefer less dividers and use packing cubes in any case this proves this is a pass for me. Thanks for the great review!
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lidia! Haha, yeah, the pack is really BRIGHT. Laptop compartment design seems to be an issue with a lot of packs, Topo Designs, Osprety Farpoint, Cotopaxi, etc. Either it takes up too much room in the pack (Tortuga Outbreaker), or they stick it in as an after thought and it just doesn't work well. I'm a big fan of laptop sleeves built into the main compartment, like the Peak Designs bag, all companies should follow that design 👍 I can go either way on packing cubes. I like to use them, but the way I see it is if a pack has dividers like the Allpa, it basically has the packing cubes built in 😊 Cheers

I love this bag, but unfortunately it’s now just a bit too big for carry-on status where I’m going (55cm x 23cm x 40cm vs the 35 Alpa’s 56cm x 30cm x 25cm). The bag also can be stuffed so much that it probably goes beyond the original dimensions. Am I overthinking it and will I be able to use it as carry-on?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels Жыл бұрын
Kinda depends on the airline and your risk tolerance for going over, some airlines are more strict than others. But I'd say generally that bag is rather squishable, so as long as you underpack it you can fit it into a smaller sized than the listed dimensions. A lot of people report fitting the 28L version under the seat as a person item when it's listed above those dimensions

I have travelled hundreds of thousands of air miles with this bag and have not once been stopped from or had issue with bringing it as a carry-on. The only qualifier is that on continental European flights often their overhead bins are smaller than the ones in the US, but I can shove even the fully over-packed bag under the seat in front of me if needed.
