Hey man, I just want to say something and I hope you and other people gonna read this. it was one month ago which I decided to learn Blender. I visited many youtube channels from 3D artists (Which better to not mentioning their names) I watched and started learning from them and I realized I am leading to somewhere unprofessional! THEN, I started watching your Donut tutorial and I FELL IN LOVE with your teaching. from placing sparkles by holding Ctrl to snap it on the donut's face. To CHAIR tutorial and how to Duplicate Screws materials. WOWWWWWWWWWW.... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE teach us more. And to all viewers. If you wanna become professional and more curious about Blender. Just watch blender guru. I am the one who watched hours and hours of some CGchocolate, bla bla bla, videos.. and this man shows you where it must goes! Wish you a happy life with your beard which your wife allowed you to still have it. And happy to hear that you have a child now. Congratulations.

Just noticed that mine was "inflating inwards".. Solution: Select all faces and flipping normals fixed it. (edit mode: Mesh > Normals > Flip)
@dragonpanda2379
@dragonpanda2379 4 жыл бұрын
Would it be better to use a negative pressure value or have the red sides of the normals facing outwards?
@erikrichard413
@erikrichard413 4 жыл бұрын
For anyone wondering if their faces are inward facing. First check the face orientation on your mesh. You can do this by selecting the "Show Overlays" tab which looks like two circles at the upper right hand corner of the viewport. Clicking this and selecting "Face Orientation" will show if your normals need to be flipped. If the faces are red, you need to flip them.
@fastenseatbeltnow
@fastenseatbeltnow 4 жыл бұрын
Had the same issue here. Flipping normals solved it, thank you! The cushion looks perfect now at frame 9. But the normals are red. Is that bad / how do I solve it?
@marschrr
@marschrr 4 жыл бұрын
@@fastenseatbeltnow Well, I have never seen red normals (not saying that that might not exist, cause I can't say that I'm an expert either haha) Maybe select whole mesh of faces with "recalculate outside" (mesh > normals > recalc. outside) could do the trick. Btw, to my knowledge, read means the Seams for the UV unwrapper, ain't them?
@marschrr
@marschrr 4 жыл бұрын
@@fastenseatbeltnow Also, setting the object shade to smooth sometimes is an easy way to reveal messy normals (since blender will use normals info to do the interpolation caclulation between faces to render the smooth shading)

8:01 I think it does make sense physically. What you are doing by applying pressure is inflating the cusion from the inside. And then you create a hole to let the "stuffing" escape and generate a sort of reactive force that propels the cusion in the opposite direction. Basically you are creating a cusion rocket here.

Just a late addition for you: if you go under cloth sim and enable "internal springs" and set tension to 0 and compression to 0.05, and leave pressure at 10, you get a nice, controlled inflation that looks very natural.

For anyone having problems at 7:36 (the cushion inflating inwards to the point that each side goes towards the opposite one - kinda like an infinite vacuum), simply select the cushion in object mode and scale it along the y axis and that should weirdly solve the problem. From this point on, you can even scale it back to the original size you had so no worries. Don't know what the problem is, but thought to save you up some time. Cheers.

Activating internal springs setting Tension to 0 and Compression to something small like 0.1 produces a relatively realistic simulation as well. You even can have gravity be turned on. I assume that pressure is better for something that actually has internal pressure like a balloon or similar.

To solve falling through objects with gravity simply add 'collision' physics to the parts that pillow passing and turn on 'object collision' in cloth properties of cushion. That combined with mangling with pressure and tension might get more realistic shapes. (especially when you want very soft, puffy pillows)

8:22 Fun fact, that's how pressure works IRL. the particles inside bounce off the inside faces of our cushion. in your example, the particles only push the insides that are still there, meaning it floats to the left because theres nothing to push on the right. It's basically being thrusted by the air thats coming out of the empty side. Sorry if this was hard to understand but i hope you found it interesting!

Andrew has that "idgaf lecturer" vibes, we all know someone like this teaching us in our Universities. But I do love it. Very funny.

I believe you can think of pressure is like air pressure, like you are adding air into your mesh. So like if you blow into an open bag, you'll push it in the opposite direction of the opening.

@Blender Guru For the pillow. Vertex -> Remesh -> Quad method. No need for manual loop cuts! For some reason, two vertices were off their place by a tiny amount. Easily fixed with vertex snap to fix it.

you can also use the new Retopology tool in sculpt mode to get uniform geometry without having to eyeball it. also has the benefit of giving you control over the resolution!

One addition I like: add a smooth modifier after the Cloth Simulation and play with the value. For me 1.762 worked fine...

Don't forget to add seams to the unapplied cushion. Happened to me many times that I did changes to a model and the backup model was completely different.

Hello, if anyone having the issue on 18:37 where the pillow turns into a big cube after scaling it to 1 on each axis, the resolve to this issue is not scaling it manually instead just toggle object mode and while selecting the pillow click ( CTRL + A ) and apply the scale and this will reset the object's scale to 1 on all axes while preserving its current size. thank me later *_*

Btw to switch between the different selection modes in edit mode, you'll have to press the numbers ABOVE the letters, NOT the numpad!

I liked the results from the Denim preset, the only things that I changed were the vertex weight from 1kg to 0.3kg and quality steps from 12 to 4 and pressure to 7. It provided me with creases where the seams are as well as some good stretching. Cool stuff :) looking forward to the next part!

I personally have found that the new Voxel or Quad remesher works perfectly for getting an even distribution of squares on your mesh instead of guessing with loop cuts

I am on Blender 2.9 and i had to reduce pressure scale and increase stiffness tension/compression/shear to have results approximately similar . I think they changed something in the physics default value maybe, on 2.9, because i did all the same before and my cushion inflate more than in the tuto and hadn't enough wrinckles.
