LOL speaking of "not the prettiest landing, but I'm down", my worst landing was in Afghanistan. We had a target within visual of the FARP with the Task Force on the target. So since we could keep eyes on each other from the FARP we decided to rotate into the FARP so as to provide continuous coverage. Lead FARPed first, once complete we came to the FARP. Around 40-50 feet above the ground Betty went off with a Utility Hydraulic Pressure Low followed by smoke in the cockpit. At this stage we opted to simply land before losing hydraulics and attempting a run-on landing. By the time I touched down the cockpit was completely filled with smoke, each of us ripped open the canopy door as we completely lost the Utility Hydraulics and completed an emergency engine shutdown. Turns out, the wrong hose was installed on the aircraft and had worn through.

The Ah-64 can potentially reload ammo in 30 seconds, but even if it took 60 seconds, the Apaches IRL would simply OBLITERATE the Afrika Korps assault. The Germans had field AA and a few batteries of 88mm guns, so they would have to be taken out quickly by flanking 'pop-up' attacks - bread and butter for the Apache. German tanks and armoured infantry had only rifle calibre machineguns (possibly with a few mounted 20mm AA-vehicles), so they would pose little threat to attacking Apaches. The FAB would also have been well protected by 3 Australian infantry brigades, and 2 more covering the flanks, plus a British armoured brigade and an AA brigade.

The Apache helicopter M230 can carry upto 1200 rounds, that an enough round to shoot and neutralize the enemy target, but there is an problem is that you need an sufficient range to aim at the enemy target and accuracy to hit the target. Even that the high explosive has a damage radius, it can blow up an tank armor and HEDP round can give more strong punch than the API rounds. @Grim Reapers the only issue I have with the whole premise of this video is that you are looking at it from in a game prospective rather than if it would be possible in really life. As a guy who was an US Army Apache Armt Dog who worked on the busiest FRAP in Iraq during the Surge. I telling you that a typical FRAP pad crew consists of 2 Armt Dogs(one of which is the pad chief who controls everything happening on the pad) and 2 fuelers. In order to reload and Apache that has run dry while heavy hogging it would take 9 Armt Dogs including the pad chief, this I because it requires two men per hellfire, which would give you 2 pairs per side of the bird. It would still take 10 minutes if you had perfect crews and have a pad pre-staged with enough hellfires that are all of the type that you want loaded. But that would be an issue because you would violate safety restrictions about the amount of ordinance on the pad with one reload, much less being able to handle multiple birds. If you started adding reloading the 30mm into the process it would take even longer, because basically your pad chief would have to do that while directing everything else.

The Hellfire will not miss based upon any rudder movement, it is laser guided and as long as the seeker locks onto the laser it is going to hit whatever the laser is on. Also, you can get two or three missiles in the air at a time. Simply start with your further target so the smoke doesn't obstruct your laser. Then give yourself several second between missiles. After your first target is destroyed, bring the laser down into the dirt in front of your killed target, walk it to the next target and paint it, wash/rinse/repeat. The missile will create its own trajectory, all you have to do is make sure the seeker is tracking the laser. Also, their is nothing out there in WW2 armor that the Hellfire will not destroy. As for not using the gun, the gun will punch through most armor of that era.

@GrimReapers There isn't a WWII tank that won't be destroyed or rendered combat ineffective by the AGM-114. You may just be talking in game errors. Cap also mentions high trajectory. It is important to note that the Hellfire automatically climbs and impacts so the aircraft altitude has little effect. Employ the weapon systems in the best tactical position and the missile will do the rest. Also, not sure how DCS handles this but your biggest challenge in desert environments while engaging moving armor would be laser backscatter. The dust from the tracks, smoke from burning vehicles would potentially degrade laser spot accuracy. To help with the latter engage the furthest targets first (or highest threat in modern engagements). As someone else mentioned LOAL is always a great tool to use to minimize the effects of laser cross contamination and backscatter. Use 30mm on trucks and soft targets. Save Hellfire for Armor. Does DCS support IAT? That is a nice way to track the target and reduce workload on the CPG when tracking moving targets. Lastly, just a technique thing. If you use LOAL you can have multiple missiles in the air at once. This is more effective in the scenario you are playing where armor is grouped and at a longer range. You would positively ID your targets and launch first missile like normal. You can then send a second missile and move your spot after the first impacts. You obviously need enough time to move the laser spot and have the missile react. If targets are too far apart or too close this obviously doesn't work well. Great video!

The hellfire can kill anything! I wonder how many hellfires it would take to kill a ship in DCS?

hmmm

It's only a 20lb warhead. More than enough to obliterate a tank, but much much smaller than most fixed wing air to ground weapons. So the answer is a lot.

If you poke holes at the waterline, then they should eventually flood but I doubt the game will take that into account.

Ka50s can annihilate much more than this. I see so many hellfires missing the mark.

Anyone remember the old Saturday night live skit with Dan Aykroyd talking about if they had a B-52’s with nuclear weapons in the Civil War?

*Help* Cap I can't figure out the hover and trim of the Apache. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
@rodneypayne48272 жыл бұрын
Trim is bugged. Also the Hellfire are also b in bugged with every second or third shot wobbling all over the place and completely missing. Apparently ED are working on it and will be fixed soon. A number of KZbinrs have noted this.

@Rodney Payne Thank you for helping. I have had zero success in getting her to hover or maintain level flight. And transitioning to flight after attempted hover.... forget about it. Lol
